I swear there is such a repeat pattern with her. I take a few days off and it's another Tracie story, lol.
If somebody wants to charge for a podcast that is cool. If somebody wants to charge for a Podcast that is not in the industry she/he is podcasting about that is not cool. Isn't that fraudulent in some States? I am not a lawyer. Seriously, if you were a paid listener to a major medical podcast about medicine, thinking you were listening to a Doctor but you found out it is a Dude who enjoys Doctor Googling you would be FURIOUS!
Tracie does not scrapbook any more. She has said this many, many, many times. She went into lettering. She is still calling herself part of the ScrapGals. She is no longer scrapping. Should she call herself Lettering Gal or Cursive Gal or whatever kind of alphabet writing she wants to do.
I know I have said a zillion times before I have a close relative just like Tracie. I know when my relative started getting hate from the crafting world she went into overdrive trying to milk and grift money like it was going out of style. She did it for one reason only. She was enraged. She hated all those women in the industry. She didn't care if any of them were nice to her. They were terrible people because they were in the industry. I think this is what Tracie is doing. I think she really is hurt and ragey that she is not liked, trusted and in her eyes destroyed by this industry. She wants revenge. That revenge is getting people to pony up money so she can laugh at their "stupidity" all the way to wherever she spends. I am not saying these women are stupid at all. Please, don't think that. I have seen this firsthand this vindictive mindset. These people have a pattern.
Sorry, for all the people that are going to get hurt by this. I know, I know don't say it. I already know. "They should have known better." A lot of people hold on to the belief that everyone has some good inside them and are being judged harshly. I get that mindset too.

500 people paying $5/month - $2500/month income for them. Cha-China! If this is their full time job that’s really not much at all. Divided by two (they have to split it) that’s $1250. That’s about $300/wk, before tax or expenses. That would work our to less than I made working at McDonald’s in high school (because I didn’t have expenses). ETA: At the current fed minimum wage, a full time job gives you $290/wk (pretax). I would guess they have at least $10 of expenses? (I also want to add I was lucky to work at McDonald’s in California where there is a higher minimum wage so even tho it was awhile ago, it was slightly above the current fed minimum wage).

She’s his wife, so there is no such thing as being a dependent of your spouse for tax purposes—they will likely file a joint return regardless of her income amount. Also if she doesn’t report it that’s criminal and she’d probably be caught at some point and given some hefty penalties and interest. Since she’s using a large company to host the website podcast and collect the fees through, my guess is that company will report the income to the IRS and issue her a 1099. SaveSave

I am just now seeing this thread. I had posted about this topic over on the Tracie thread a few days ago so my apologies for not seeing this thread before then. I can't believe all the ridiculousness going on over in the FB group about this. Scrappers practically falling all over themselves. I can't get over how many people fall at Tracie's feet when she doesn't even scrapbook anymore! Get over yourselves. I am typically a nice person with reasonable limits but for crying out loud...in the few episodes that I have listened to she doesn't even seem like she's remotely interested in scrapbooking. She likes to talk and make money. WHAT is the attraction to her? Seriously...tell me. What am I missing? Is it obvious? I mean...this? HUH? I don't get it. Come on.

I am still flabbergasted by the notion that they are perfectly happy if only part of their audience joins them. Why wouldn't they keep at least some of the content free, so they can keep building an audience? I guess they figure no one will join if they don't have to pay.

She used to look for ways to spread the word about scrapbooking and memory keeping. I'm pretty sure this topic came up in several shows. They have this so closed off now that not only will it not grow, it's going to ultimately die off.

True, but this is additional income to them from what they make now doing the podcast for free. That's where i was coming from. And i wonder if this will be reported as income? my guess is no.

Tiffany has a full time professional job. She’s a high school English teacher. This is her side gig. Tracie probably takes more than half because she has the studio set up in her house and she’s the planner/orchestrator/manager. I don’t think she has any other steady employment. Allegedly she’s building a business around putting her lettering on stuff.

Half the episode topics are taken from discussions in the fb group anyway, so the members should be paid for the creative content, right? There is that. And what keeps someone from waiting 6 months to pay for a subscription and then they get to d/l 6 months worth of shows, for only $5, versus the person who paid $5 a month ($30). How is that fair? If the number on the Podbean profile is an accurate representation of the number of subscribers, they have managed about 500, out of a Facebook group of 10000. I wonder what the goal was for immediate subs? Oh wait, does Tracie set goals? If they do t get enough premium subscribers, will they stop producing a show a week? That is an excellent point!! I could sub a few months from now for a month, catch up on the shows I want to and cancel. Definitely a way around paying every month and kind of a cheat? Also definitely not fair to the people who pay every month! If I was still in the group, I would so bring up this point!

Idk about Tiffany, but I didn't think Tracie really had any income besides the occasional retreat (which it seems she is replacing with the podcast). Even if it is additional income to something else, my point was it's not really a windfall. SaveSave

Two worst marketing moves:
1. Take away ALL the old episodes so at least new subscribers could find you and know what they were getting (not to mention ticking off those who have financially supported you in the past - shades of April Foster) 2. Not make some continued free content to find new subscribers. Podcast advice is to ALWAYS create partial free content so that you give the customers a desire for the stuff that's behind the paywall.
It's like they have no marketing sense whatsoever.
ETA: Oh, and shout out to Noell Hyman. PRT has been "off the air" for a long time. Yet their podcasts are still up! What a way to be generous as I'm assuming they're either paying to host them or self-hosting - which still takes space, upgrades, etc.
Noell and Izzy were class acts. Unlike SGs.

Well I guess Tracie can finally stop harping about how they work so hard to provide 'free' content now.

This might make zero sense but I feel like it’s Tracie’s way of protecting herself from the haters. She has a LOT of haters, but she also seems to somehow have acquired a large loyal following. I think she would rather put this barrier up and have (for example) 100 people who are happy to pay for the podcast and stroke her ego, than be open to 200 people which some of those will dislike her. She is clearly a vulnerable woman and she wants to surround herself with people who will suck up to her. She would rather have that guaranteed ego boost than grow her audience.

If anyone’s looking for another podcast, I saw Inky Quill post she’s going to be doing it more regularly. I haven’t listened to hers yet, but it’s now on my list. Good timing for her since people will be looking to fill in their from the scrap gals’ absence.
ETA: It’s called Inky Chat.

Will you get 52 podcasts for $60? Will she produce one every week? Just wondering what the cost per episode will actually be.

Yes, she said in the group that it will be 52 episodes per year with the aim to have them weekly. If they miss an episode (presumably because one of them falls ill, or is travelling or whatever) they will post catch up episodes. The cost per episode clearly depends on whether you pay the $5 per week or just sign up once or twice a year and download everything up to that point

I will give it a shot though. Would love a more professional type Scrap podcast like PRT was. I really miss that. There was some personal stuff mixed in of course but they always stayed focused on whatever topic/industry related news they were discussing. I also miss their picks of the week. I learned about tons of new stuff that way, particularly technology type stuff from Izzy. I was just thinking the other day how much I miss that aspect of the show.

From the FB page: Tracy: This is copied and pasted from question right above you so let me know if this needs more explanation..
I understand and I am so sorry to hear that. Podbean does not accept PayPal as a form of payment. All transactions are processed by Stripe.
We do have the option of having an annual subscription but at this moment, we are not ready to commit to doing the show in 2019. We need time to see if this subscription model is a success. If we are successful with our subscriptions, we will consider offering an annual rate beginning in January.
We appreciate you and completely understand if the fees make it impossible for you to subscribe. The fees from both Stripe and Podbean are substantial for us too, but this was the only suitable method of offering premium paid content. We thoroughly researched our options and this was the best choice available.

What a lot of hoops to jump through, and “premium” content? Could anything she’s ever done be described as premium? Maybe she is starting a cult instead of a podcast.

I've never heard of Stripe. So 6 months is all they can commit to? Stripe is an online payment processor - like Square. They're used a lot to take CC#s online and in e-commerce. But lots of people like the option of PayPal also, since they already have an account set up and they don't have to set up YET ANOTHER account, w/YET ANOTHER password in YET ANOTHER database that can be hacked for personal information. Paypal would have been a more general option for the general public to use (vs. as a background CC processor behind an online shop). But, YET ANOTHER example of not much market research going into the SG decisions.
