Sure thing. I have no idea what USAMMA has to do with actual treatment at Walter Reed - just with acquisitions at Detrick. I go to WRNMMC at least weekly. Let me know who to send your regards to, I’ll be happy to. And I’ll let everyone know that you’re happy that those designated as “non-essential” aren’t getting paid. I’m sure that they’ll appreciate it. Well.. USAMMA is where most of the logistics decisions are made which determine the standard of care, not just for the Army but for all services. And most senior leadership in healthcare floats quite literally to the top there, before retiring into their cushy G.S. jobs. Medicine, equipment, people, training, policies etc. If you gave a shit and actually cared, I’d be glad to explain it further and how it ties in. But you seem to have a handle on it. Google is your friend 😘 Boy, for someone who has absolutely nothing to do with actually treating people, you think you are really important, huh? Go covet and cuddle your own Glad Ware and leave real warriors battling healthcare issues to fighting their battles without posers like you pretending you have a clue. Because, well, you don’t.

The lack of compassion from some people is unreal. Let's not forget that furloughed employees never asked for this. Compassion and empathy aren’t in short supply (assuming it’s me you’re talking about.) I just tend to be realistic. The idea of a shutdown itself is insanity. It’s punishing the American people for the inability of our government to do their job. Just like when a state can’t reach a budget. Well. Some states anyway. Just like the plow truck drivers out tonight. As much as I wish I could make it not cold and windy... that’s the nature of their job. These government workers are no different. This is always a possibility until it is changed and isn’t.

Also, what do you think those care providers use to diagnose? Meds and equipment? Where do you think they get them? Santa Claus?! I didn’t say a word about me. Didn’t say I’m important, sure didn’t say a thing about “warriors” what is it with you and that term by the way. You know what. You need to take a step back and realize you are the reason soldiers commit suicide in droves. How the hell do you know I’m not one of the “wounded warriors” and not a poser. Seriously. Separate me from the person that had the balls to express an unpopular opinion on an opinion thread. You have dismissed and denigrated my character, my person, my service, my livelihood, my career, my entire life based on a damn message board on an opinion neither of us can do a damn thing about. YOU I validated my military service and experience based on your observations as a spouse. You are a poser. Acting as an authority on something you know nothing at all about. Unlike many of our Service Members and Veterans unable to stand up for themselves and demand the care they deserve at MTF’s and VA’s you have your care. You can downplay my minimal impact on it (impact nonetheless) and you know, I’ll still do it, for you, and your family. You think you know their world. But you absolutely don’t.

Well, pin a rose on your nose. And try not to choke yourself with those bootstraps. I don’t have it in me to play this game again tonight, cause... well... gotta go to work tomorrow!! Otherwise, it’s some BS, but if I don’t go, I don’t get paid. Crazy! lol But I’ll be back tomorrow. Have fun with it. Can you maybe belittle me for being a single parent veteran that chose not to take a government job because stability for my kid was more important than the great retirement, healthcare and vaca plans? Because I knew (because I’m around federal and state employees that are subject to this game?) Don’t take it in the vein it was intended. Pull out a tiny piece of the convo. But you can do better! Surely I said something else that’s way easier than this to misconstrue! Nah! I’m actually simply the One person that stands on both sides of the government and refuses to talk. I caused this shutdown and certainly have the power to resolve it.. Not just a freaking human being with an opinion. Honey, I have no idea what you're going on about.

Darlin, I don’t even know anymore! If you ask elaine, I’m a poser who knows nothing about the world I’ve worked and lived in for 30 years. In fact, she’s way more knowledgeable than I am about both the military and healthcare because... her husband either is or was a contractor or military.. not sure anymore- and she goes to the doctor! Also, a step further, I’m actually worthless.. unlike those “other soldiers” - shit no. Pardon, “Wounded Warriors” she knows from the waiting room, who would be ashamed of me. And, because we have a difference of opinion on both my life path and an an issuance of a paycheck neither of us write, she has so graciously colloqulalky blessed my heart an amazing number of times while throwing out a standard why bother (but of course we do!) “thank you for your service.” Of course you didn’t need a catch up, but perhaps the page has devolved so far from the original that we all need to know for what to judge me as a horrible person, while ignoring anything else said?

The ones on their tails at home? Well.. if I was on my tail I would be burning vaca or not getting paid. Since this whole post was originally about government workers, I'l take a leap and assume you're still referring to those government workers on furlough. Someone else on this thread may know more accurately than I do, but AFAIK a government worker cannot take their leave time either during a furlough since it's all still government money. The phrasing "on their tails at home" says volumes - it implies laziness or unwillingness to work or a frame of mind that it’s a vacation on the part of the furloughed workers. It seems to be judging them. Your posts come across as very much in the "I made good choices. I made it on my own and you should too." mode. Nice for you and maybe what we should all aspire to, but reality is that some people need help at times. And not everyone, especially those at lower pay levels or early in their careers can always have the financial cushion that allows people to more easily make it through financial challenges. Again, it’s judging them for not having enough resources. You don’t know what else has happened that may have wiped out their emergency reserves before the furlough, for example. It would be nice if we all had crystal balls to make sure we know what’s coming at us, but we don’t.

Did someone have a problem with reading comprehension? I can’t claim that. Sorry. Advising you that people “like you” are the reason VETS are committing suicide? Yeah. That was me. (Don’t put words in my mouth, please. Two totally different statements. I don’t know you, and I certainly could not know if your words were part of someone’s suicide decision. No worries about me, I’m good. My stuff isn’t mental. Just maybe be aware your words are dangerous and dismissive. You don’t see my face, or my body. I am female and you assume whole. You aren’t correct. And I have had many friends who have taken less shitty thing to heart than what the “Pea community” has dealt me tonight. People feel what you say. Tear me down all you want- I don’t really care. ExceptI am still reading and posting a page after I intended to go to bed.

What does that mean to you? Rude? Or doesn’t know? I ask in earnest. I really didn’t know. And, still, you’ve been rude and mean and pretentious and judgey. But my words weren’t intentionally rude. My avatar means a great deal to me because of my religion and my family ties to PA. I even lived in Bryn Mawr with relatives for a year after my father died when I was 9. I am Jewish. I was raised in a religious household. I have family who have made Aliyah to Israel - my sister and now my 6 nieces and nephews live outside of Jerusalem. Ignorant to me means when you make judgements about people including what you think they should do with their careers without having any information about them, their lives, their history and their situations. When you make assumptions based on no personal knowledge about them and/or their work ethics. It isn’t up to you, or me, or anyone who isn’t in each household to determine how the hardship of the involuntary government shutdown affects them. Or to tell them that they somehow signed up for this and should have known better. There has NEVER been a government shutdown this long. And about something as stupid as a wall that Trump promised the American people would never pay for. To me, ignorant means making sweeping judgments about all those hundreds of thousands of families and their finances and career decisions related to this unplanned and unwanted government shutdown without knowing each of them. In terms of me, personally, (which is honestly nothing compared to what all these families are going through) ignorant means making judgements about me, my career, my education, my “wholeness” in terms of physical body, and dismissing me and my experience because I spent 20 years married to a man in the Navy, in addition to my own DOD service as a psychologist. On a very selfish personal level, I am flying with my kids next month and am terrified about the ramifications of the shutdown on the safety of thos flights. Between air traffic controllers, government oversight maintenance on planes, etc., not to mention TSA nightmares, I wonder how long it will take our air travel system to recover from this and how many additional $$$ it will take to get things back to normal and planes back on maintenance schedules when this is over. Don’t get me started on the IRS and tax season, as I do the taxes in our family.

I’m having a really hard time seeing how anyone could think of this as a “vacation”. That word must mean something different to you than it does to me. Please show me who is using the word vacation. I know I absolutely did not and do not think of it like that. When you say things like this myshelly , you instigate problems that do not exist. I am trying to understand clearly. I am sick about the shutdown. I am angry about it. I am frustrated at the President's decision not to negotiate. I am sympathetic to people who live paycheck to paycheck and are stuck in a horrible situation that will affect them for a long time to come. What I did not understand completely was it wasn't people calling out "sick." Down here in the south, all we hear is that people are calling out "sick." I know that some places closed down, but I guess I didn't completely understand it all. That's why I came here. To ask questions and to learn. AmeliaBloomer I am learning and I hope growing with considered comments from Peas. When people attack others, those others shut down. I was asking my questions to learn and asking them as best I could. I was NOT blaming anyone at any time except a President who refuses to compromise. I just see that there are a lot of people working without pay and others who are not working. Again, I didn't realize (with the exception of some obvious things, like parks, etc.) that government buildings were actually shut down. it's not JUST the President not willing to compromise. It's two sided here. From your thinking... why do we pay unemployment to people who are able bodied to work. Some choose to live off the state forever and work the system. The people on furlough have no choice. They WANT to work and need to work to make ends meet.

it's not JUST the President not willing to compromise. It's two sided here. Bears repeating. It was the president who chose to hold the entire country hostage to his whims. The Democrats would be very foolish to give in to this temper tantrum, or he’ll pull the same exact crap every few months for the next two years. IF this one ever ends. It is astonishing to me that people whose heads would have exploded had Pres. Obama shut down the government for a month or more over such utter nonsense are so busy defending Trump this time around.

there is going to be a sucking sound as the best employees go find other jobs.. and the feds will have a hard time recruiting the best to work for the govt.. where the pay and perks are not really the best.. Which the cynic in me wonders isn't exactly the point. Truly disgusting.

I believe in compromise. But there is a time to compromise and a time not to. And IMO this is not the time for the Democrats to compromise. trump wants his wall. And he is will to keep government partially shut until he gets his wall. He is willing to bargain with people’s lives to get this wall. Problem is, what trump claims this wall will do, facts prove that it won’t. In other words he is making up or outright lying about what the wall will accomplish. The country, thanks to the GOP tax cuts, does not have the kind of money needed to build this wall especially since the reasoning for it is based on lies. And to compromise and give him his wall would reward him for lying. And show he can keep doing it to get what he wants.

I'm certainly not going to change anyone's mind, but did Trump not publicly say he would own his shutdown? Has the House voted 9 times to open the government? Yes. Mitch McConnell will not bring it to a vote in the Senate. The same proposal that the Senate passed prior to the House turning blue. Suddenly, it was no good without wall funding.
Could we not put together a considerable chunk of video of Trump emphatically stating that Mexico would pay for his wall? Probably as often as he led his Lock Her Up chants.
I was in Puerto Rico all last week. While traveling, it was probably the first time I've smiled and thanked all the TSA agents. Airports, in general, aren't in cheap, rural locations. They don't live near where they work. They commute. So currently they're spending money on transportation, many on childcare, experiencing uncertainty paying or unable to pay mortgages/rent, bills, even food. They don't have cushy government jobs.
DH was in Puerto Rico to work on securing quality dental care for the Coast Guard. Who are not getting paid. Also the Border Patrol and Homeland Security there. Who are not getting paid.
That somehow the rules changed and Trump's wall became a sudden emergency is on Trump and McConnell. The GOP held the White House, Senate and House for 2 years and the Trump's wall didn't shut down the government then. They had the majority. They had control. They didn't use it for Trump's wall.
