Your story makes me not feel at all guilty about kenneling them. My dogs have always LOVED the kennel. They go on walks, play with other dogs, and are loved by the owner. When your pup is excited as soon as you pull in the driveway, you know you've made the right choice

When we were looking for a kennel we went to a few to check them out. And we also put him in for a couple afternoons to get him used to it. And the. Paid for a night just to make sure before we went away. It was a really great place.

Glad your rings have been returned. Odd about the other stuff.
Since she seems to have had an epiphany about what she did and has expressed some remorse I would act on that. Contact her or call around to her, look her in the eye and ask for the full story. Tell her you need the story for your family's peace of mind, is it safe to leave someone alone in the house? who thinks they have access? I would focus totally on getting as full a picture as you can about happened while you were away, why was the internet unplugged? where was the car driven, by whom etc. Make her squirm while she is feeling a bit guilty.
Do it before she thinks she's got away with her bad behaviour.

3/20 update: This morning DH texted me and said he'd opened the trunk of his car to find two plastic tubs of women's clothes. Obviously they'd been using the car to move stuff around. He put the tubs of clothes on the porch with the other tub of housesitter's things that we found. He also found a cigarette butt in the car ashtray, gross. BUT then he came home this afternoon to find two of older DD's t-shirts, washed and folded, on the doorstep. Tucked in between them was a plastic baggie with my two missing rings inside, and a note that said 1000 apologies, Sara (the housesitter's name). But she didn't take the boxes of her things with her. They're still sitting on our porch. I don't even know what to think. At least my rings are back. I called the constable to let them know they'd been returned WOW just WOW....she obviously has a problem. Wow just wow was going to be my response too! This is just... wow.

I'm gonna need a followup on this So glad you got your rings back, but the rest is just flat out crazy. What did the constable say when you filed the report? Will they follow up with her or just keep it on file in case anything more happens? Has she texted you any more? Perhaps you should ask her if she needs help (cuz clearly she's either in over her head and had someone else fill in, or she has a drug/alcohol issue).

They were going to find an address for her (I only have name and cell phone number) and check on the stolen items, which have now been returned. The rest of it ... not much to charge her with, unfortunately. They've made the notation that the car was used without our permission during those dates in case anything comes back to us. That's about it. I'm very glad we have the keypad locks so it was easy to remove her access to our home. I'm not particularly worried about them having copied a key to DH's car as it's very expensive and time-consuming to copy the electronic keys.

I'm glad you got your rings back. The rest is quite bizarre Did you manage to have a word with your neighbours to see if they saw any goings on?

Glad you got the rings back, and the DD's clothing.
It sounds like the sitter is still a bit loopy, since she didn't PU her belongings.
