The Shoe challenge was really strange. I also thought how did they not see the previous marks? Did it seem like a lot more contestants? So far we like everyone and remember most of them. I'm a little shocked Rubert keeps going - good for him!

I have to admit when the clue said something about climbing Mt. Fuji and they showed it in the background my hopes skyrocketed and I thought "Oh boy! They are going to climb Mt. Fuji." I thought they were going to make them climb at least one station up Mt. Fuji. When I was there in Japan in 1984 I took a tour that took us up in a bus to station 5 and it was so cool up there with the mist all around. I must say my hopes were dashed drastically when I saw the silly plastic, slippery mountain they had to make there way up to get the clue.
And yes, I thought the shoe challenge was really strange. There are so many cool things in Japan. I was hoping they'd do something more related to Japan. The shoes are but chocolate?

On a spoiler site someone said all the big brother players should've said OTEV!!! when they got to ""mt fugi"" last week... lol that wouldve been funny...
I agree that Rachel and Elissa should be really worried about the u-turn... but really glad both teams that got turned made it thru...
I'm ok with the team that went home... I'm pretty much over him and hope we dont see him any more...

As much as I loved Rupert back on his first "Survivor" season I think he got too full of himself. Also, he hardly tried on the elephant challenge! He was all "please elephant, please go" or whatever else he was saying... rather than "Go!" (in their language of course, but I forget what the word was). Basically he gave up.
The other thing that bothered me last night was all the SHOUTING. omg... Especially with the elephants. Absolutely I understand that it's exciting but there in the middle of the river with all that scenery....well, just too much shouting for me. It wasn't just with the elephants though, it was all through the episode.
Otherwise I haven't formed an attachment to anyone yet.

I agree, Rupert is better on survivor and I didn’t really like him on amazing race. I’m glad team fun was able to complete the 2 challenges as well as Tyler and his partner. Not a fan of the girl who u turned team fun, too obnoxious.
I thought it was really cute that the second team place the guy was so happy for his gf. I’ve never seen big brother so I don’t know how they really but it was sweet!

I thought the second road block was more of a Big Brother type challenge and, IIRC, all the BB teams did it easily. Given the trouble Leo seemed to have with it, I expected more teams to struggle. And can we discuss Bret getting to the top of the hill and not knowing he needed to grab a clue?! For the chocolate shoe, I would have just started with one row and worked my way across. I'm not sure if anyone actually tried that technique - they all seemed to be randomly picking. Rupert annoys me but I really like Laura. They were really lucky. Who takes a 4 hour penalty on the first leg of the race? Chances of it being a nonelimination leg are zero. I'm assuming they knew one team was behind them but still it felt like quitting to us. Rachel is slightly annoying although I like her a lot more when Brendan isn't around. Right! It seemed so difficult if the first person was having such a tough time -- I thought it would be tough for everyone but some just scaled the mountain no problem. AND I cannot believe Bret had "no Clue" about the clue!!! #1 Rule: Always read your clue twice before starting the challenge. And agree about the chocolate challenge. I thought they were wasting too much time trying to tell the girl what shoe they wanted. I kept yelling, just give me any shoe keep them coming.... And Rupert not listening to his wife. Laura should have taken more control and hopefully from this point forward RUPERT will listen to his wife. And so agree about the 4 hour penalty. UNLESS you are taking the penalty alongside other teams so its a wash. I remember Boston Rob did this once on a meat eating challenge. He convinced two other teams to take a penalty along side him and his wife so there were like 3 teams racing at the end along side each other.

I always liked Rupert - but I wasn't surprised either that they were last - I was amazed that the ones that were U-Turned still did as well as they did - impressive!
That language thing looked so hard!!
The elephant rides were amazing - especially when they went through the water. Everyone (except Rupert, who had problems) seemed to really love that and I can imagine how incredible it would be to experience it. I loved how happy Victor seemed to be for Nicole.

I’m probably in the minority but I really don’t like the afghanimals. They said they’ve grown up since the first season but I don’t think they have. I want to like them, and get that it is frustrating when other teams are following you, but the deliberate lying to people is going to come back and bite them I hope. I felt for Victor when they sucked Nicole in last night. I also think Rachel is going to have the U-turn come back and bite her at some point. They spent a fair bit of screen time on that decision and it was, IMHO, way too early in the race to use up a U-turn opportunity. I'm am so impressed with Collin & Christy this time around - couldn't stand him way back on their first race.

I'm not surprised Rupert and Laura got eliminated last night. Did they not watch previous episodes of the race to get ready? It seems they started this race entirely clueless. I think Laura could have done better but Rupert kept insisting on his way. Last night with the elephants Rupert kept talking to his elephant in English even though before every person started they were given the commands in the Laos language with a cheat sheet in case they forgot. Nope-Rupert keeps speaking to his elephant in English and then is surprised when the elephant totally ignores him.
I too have never liked the afghanimals GaleW so it's not just you. Lying to other teams can be part strategy but this early in the race it's not called for in my opinion when I think this is the time to start building friendships and everyone is still trying to get to know everyone else. If another team U-turns you for no reason perhaps that is the time to lie to them? They are very obnoxious and will do anything and everything to get ahead.
I was really happy to see Team Fun (Becca and Floyd) make it through both of their challenges so quickly after getting U-turned. I like them so much. I've always liked Tyler and Corey although last night when they did the BBQ challenge I was really grossed out when one of them (I don't know which is which) kept holding up the duck heads and quacking. That's my issue because I'm vegan and have been for 5 years. I'm sure to him it was hilarious.
The language challenge looked incredibly difficult to me.
I was very glad they chose an elephant place that doesn't use the seats on top of the elephants that hold several riders or trainers that train with bull hooks. Those are very harmful and torture the elephants so much. I applaud The Amazing Race for choosing a place that reveres their elephants and teaches them with love and compassion and only uses their voices.
I too noticed how loudly all of the racers were yelling at their elephants and didn't think it was necessary, but I think in the heat of the moment they got overexcited and anxious. There is a reason we are known around the world as "loud Americans" unfortunately.

Hey everyone! been absent on my favorite reality TV threads for a bit, but I’ve been watching (unfortunately often watching late) and I’ve been reading everything you write. Now I need to jump in the fray for Survivor and TaR. Better late than never, right? I’m really enjoying this season so far. I’m a fan of all the reality shows being represented, so that makes it fun. I’m a huge fan of Janelle and have wanted her to do TaR forever. I always hoped she would do it with Kaiser or even Howe, but I like Brittany a lot too. I really love Nicole and Victor. How adorable are they? I didn’t like him at first on BB, but he really grew on me as the season went on. He always liked Nicole so much and it really shows now that they’re a couple. I loved how moved he was watching her get to ride the elephant—he was almost in tears! And then when she effed up at the end by listening to the Afghanimals instead of Victor, he wasn’t happy about it but was so gentle with her. Rachel and her sister...ugh! They are fine so far, other than all of the cosmetic surgery is just so unappealing to me, but to each their own. I’ve just never been able to stand Rachel. I have always been shocked at the love for her. To me she seems whiny, phony, and just all around obnoxious. She’s been okay so far this season, but that’s been my general impression of her over the years. Corrine and Eliza, oh gosh...Corrine was so absolutely horrible on her first Survivor season, just awful. I think she’s probably a witty and fun person, but I really can’t get over how awful she was in Gabon, especially with what she said to Sugar. However, I’ve always liked Eliza (it’s a f*cking stick!) and I LOVE Survivor, so I’ll semi-root for them. And I have to say, they really made me laugh running down the street, zigzagging so the tuktuk couldn’t pass. Obnoxious, but funny. Rupert and his wife...sorry, but I'm so glad to see them go. Not a fan of Rupert and haven’t been for some time. I loved him at first on Pearl Islands Survivor—his thrill of the game, his embracing of the pirate life, and his bullying underdog story against the douchy jock bullies. But then he got full of himself—RAGING at people when they dared to vote him off, yelling about “his adventure” and “get off my island”. It was obnoxious. I don't like his baby talk; he just rubs me the wrong way. I’m sure he’s a decent guy, but I’m ready to not see him anymore. Chris and Brett—I liked Chris on Survivor but Brett, not so much. He was a bit of a dick. Now of the past racers, I love that Team Fun is back and I also love the Afghanimals. They are an impressive pair. Colin and Christie, omg, I did not like them at all their season. That was a long time ago and they’ve mellowed, but I still see the ugliness simmering underneath. I could be wrong though. I think this season will be a lot of fun. I’m liking the challenges so far, but agree that the chocolate shoe one was not my favorite either. Can’t wait to see what all isin store this season.

Colin and Christie, omg, I did not like them at all their season. That was a long time ago and they’ve mellowed They argued and whined so much when they were first on and he was just a down right jerk. I didn't see how their relationship would go far but it seems they matured and found a lot of peace and have changed. Colin even made a statement that he realized how his nastiness didn't get him anywhere. Hopefully they have learned from their past mistakes.

I HATED everything about that elephant challenge and found it really distressing. I hate it when they pretend that they are doing some sort of conservation and all they are really doing is exploiting elephants for the tourist dollar. When elephants are used like that in poor countries, you can guarantee they are abused in the training and treated badly...how else do you think huge animals like that are controlled so that they don't injure people? Then all those obnoxious people sitting on them and screaming at the too of their lungs. Just horrible.

Thanks Christine!
Just re-reading this thread more carefully and noticed these comments:
That’s simply not true about Eliza. I know many many people find her annoying with her constant chatter and exaggerated expressions (I happen to like her and can still understand that), but she is definitely NOT stupid. She’s an attorney with a pretty impressive academic career and she absolutely wasn’t fooled by Jason’s “stick idol” in Micronesia. He told her he found the HII and would give it to her if he won immunity, which he did. When he gave it to her, she immediately said “That’s not a hidden immunity idol. It’s a f*cking stick!” She played it anyway because her plan was that once Jeff called it out for being a fake she could let everyone know at TC that meant Ozzy had the real one in hopes of wreaking some havoc and blowing up his game, which she did. Plus, even if I were given an idol that I felt was pretty much 100% fake, if I knew I was going home I would play it. She had nothing to lose. Girl is not dumb—annoying at times yes, bad choice in friends, yes, but not dumb and definitely not convinced that a stick was an idol.

Not surprised about Rupert. I had really liked him at first on Survivor but not so much after that season. The elephants were fun to watch. Before I got married, I was fortunate to work in Singapore and was able to travel all over Asia by myself. One of my fondest memories was getting to ride an elephant in Thailand...I would love to be able to relive that as it was pretty exciting.

Wow, that dancing challenge and the singing challenge would have done me in. I knew the Fun Team would do well. I am also proud of Victor and Nicole. They are so stinking cute together! Rachel and her sister crack me up ~ remember when Rachel said it would be easier racing with her sis instead of Brandon? Ha, nerves got a little tense tonight.

I was shocked that Chris & Bret tried the dance challenge first and kind of enjoyed how long it took Elissa & Rachel and the Afganimals to get through it.
Becca & Floyd and Nicole & Victor are my favorites.

I thought this was a great episode and I'm sorry for posting late but it was a migraine filled week due to the crazy thunderstorm filled days we've been having. I'm having trouble remembering the events and challenges in order of the show so I'm just going to comment on them.
The double U-turn: Rachel and her sister didn't have to U-turn anyone this early in the game. But knowing Rachel of course being who she is she did. She hemmed and hawed about it but chose Team Fun (Becca and Floyd) my favorite team and I truly hope Karma is a bitch for her. Wink, wink...it looks like it is already working. I mean, how do 2 professional cheerleaders take so freaking long to get through a dance routine? I loved it! (I'm so bad). Every time the judge said, "No" and "do it again" to them I cheered. Whereas I think Becca and Floyd got it on their second try after the judge told them to do it with more energy and since they were there first they didn't have to wait in any kind of line-they just did it again right away. See how Karma works?
Also did you notice throughout the hour how Rachel kept putting down her sister and blaming her every time they got the dance routine wrong? One time I saw Rachel misstep and she still blamed it on her sister! What a horrible, nasty woman she is. I hope they stay in the back of the pack although I feel bad hoping for that because her sister didn't do anything wrong-except choosing to run the race with Rachel-maybe she'll come back and run it with someone other than Rachel once she realizes how Rachel treats her teammates on the race although you'd think she would've seen that on the previous seasons.
The Challenges: I thought the dance was fun as all get out with the lights, the music and the moves. I too was surprised as heck when Chris and Brett chose the dance challenge and didn't immediately switch to the fishing challenge. Once they did it was a much easier challenge for them. It was so hard to see Corey and Tyler fishing anxiously trying to catch those 8 crawfish and then watch Corrine (spelling?) and Eliza come in and pull up one after another and run out soon after while they were still waiting to finish. I like Eliza (what Jackie wrote previously is true), but I cannot stand Corrine! She is a mean girl! On the season I remember her being on in Survivor there was a young blonde girl named Sugar who listed her job as a pin-up model. She was beautiful and smart. Her father had just passed away very recently before she came to do the Survivor season-when it comes to Survivor it's usually a years long wish and when they call you it's your chance-you go. So there were some tears from Sugar understandably throughout that season but she wasn't crying the entire time at all and she wasn't obnoxious about it.
Sugar even made it to the final 2 or 3 (whatever number they chose back then) and when it came time for the jury to address those players Corrine gets up and says how much she hates Sugar really laying it on and something like "why don't you just take a handful of antidepressants so you can quit crying about your dead father?" in the most venomous and nasty voice you've ever heard. It was truly shocking. I've hated Corrine since that day. I don't understand that lack of compassion in people.
The karaoke singing-oh my gosh that looked like a difficult challenge. I didn't realize until the show was almost over that the words were on the screen (I've never done karaoke) so that would have made it a lot easier, but you still had to learn the tune and how the words sounded. I thought it was very interesting how one of the Afgananimals chose not to practice at all but went right for it even though he messed it up a few times. He knew he was at the back of the line and he was desperate to move up a few places. His theory worked because once he got into the karaoke place with all of the people I think it was easier to hear the song because it was being sung out loud with all of the enthusiasm surrounding it. And because he got the tune and they made it out of there a few (a couple?) of places ahead of the other teams.
I don't remember who came in last but it was a non-elimination round.
I hope that Team Fun make an alliance with another team or two to U-Turn Rachel and her sister the next time a U-turn shows up although they are now in the front and hopefully they can continue near the front and Rachel and her sister are near the back.

Hi Debbie!! Agree with everything you wrote. Corrine was a bitch her whole Survivor season in Gabon, but her remarks to Sugar at jury might be the cruelest I’ve ever seen. Even if we didn’t get to see the whole picture and Sugar was super annoying and constantly crying, those remarks would still be horrible and uncalled for. Corrine is one of those people who is smart and pretty and has had every advantage. She’s accustomed to success and getting her own way and expects it. She thought her alliance of other mean pretty people would just carry her through the game. I love that the weaker nerdier folks knocked her and her buddies out. Okay, Wednesday’s episode: The dancing challenge was crazy. Two professional cheerleaders took 17 tries? And the Afghanimals, 27 trues? Yikes. I immediately thought I would do the prawn fishing thing if given the choice. At first that started looking like a slow go though. All in all I think it was the better choice. At least they weren’t wearing themselves out. Those pincers on the prawns though! My God, I had no idea prawns had pincers. I was lol watching Corrine and Ekiza try to get them off the hook. It was pinching the crap out of Eliza, even drawing blood. The singing challenge looked even worse but people seemed to complete it faster. I really love Nic and Victor; they’re my favorites. I can’t imagine Brett and Chris going far. They keep barely scraping by. I have to say I was disappointed to hear Eliza saying nasty things about their cab driver. I hate seeing Americans do that. You don’t know his language and you’re in HIS home. Stop getting pissed that he doesn’t know yours. They say ugly things right in front of them not knowing if they understand it. Not cool! Rachel and her sister... I cannot stand listening to and looking at them. I really don’t like commenting on people’s looks, but when it’s self-imposed, that’s a little different. Stop with the plastic surgery and lip injections, especially the sister. And I thought Rachel’s voice was bad, my God her sister’s is worse. She has that really phony Kardashian type speech. It’s like nails on a chalkboard for me. Afghanimals, quit lying to everyone. It WILL come back to bite you. I used to like them but they are starting to fall from my grace. Most of the teams I like well enough. I’m enjoying this season so far. ETA: I corrected about 100 typos—sorry to anyone who might have read it! Note to self; do not type posts at 1 am when you’re dead tired!
