8 pm Central.
Woo-hoo!
Immature alert; A friend of mine and I have a tradition of calling each other at the commercials (she does not have dvr and lives 250 miles away) to comment on the goings-on.

Depends on where you live. Usually right after Survivor. We get Survivor at 7 and the Race at 8. CBS of course!

I am looking forward to it - I haven't seen any ads for it on TV at all - the only way I knew about it was because I follow Rachael Reilly Villegas on Instagram and she has posted about it.

I'll have to stay away from this thread until we watch this weekend when we're staying with DS. We're saving this show, Survivor and The Resident to watch together.

I got bored with the last couple of seasons and one (with the dentists) I didn't even watch. So I'm looking forward to this. I know I'm in the minority but I always like returning players as long as they are brought back because they are good competitors, not because they were unliked and caused drama(ratings). I'm pretty happy to see this years cast. I've always like Rupert and would like to see him win...but I think that's unlikely.

I feel bad for the eliminated team... but it makes no sense to do that in the very 1st race...

Love the Amazing Race! Kind of wish it was just new players, but I have some people that I like this season, so hopefully they last a while! 8 pm Central. Woo-hoo! The hour of 2-3 was us on the phone across campus from each other, drooling over Jason and Jagger ❤️

I don't mind returning players if they are ALL returning, and not just one or two teams with a bunch of newbies. I don't know all of the teams, especially contestants from a few years ago on BB or Survivor.

Rupert is annoying me already. I was hoping they would be last. They walked around that park for 3 hours all because he wouldn't listen to her to check across the street!
But the team that came in last deserved it IMO. Its a race. For a million dollars. You never give up!!
I'm loving the Afganimals! I'd forgotten about them but I liked them the first time they were on too
I didn't realize it had been over a year since this had been on. We got to watch the Amazing Race Canada last summer so it doesn't feel like its been that long

I loved him on his very first Survivor season, but after that he kind of went downhill for me. He was an excellent food provider for his tribe but then it went to his head. Remember in one of his subsequent seasons he insisted on building their shelter one way (or in one location... I've forgotten now the exact details) and it ended up flooding? All because he was so sure he was right. Anyway, yeah they would have come in much higher up if he'd just listened to her.

I'm still a Rupert fan (although I do remember him getting a little to big for his britches) BUT the year Rupert was on the first episode of Survivor brings back so many memories as our whole family would sit and cheer for him. Now the kids are grown, DH is on the road.. it was just me watching last night BUT I wasn't sad.. I LOVE Amazing Race.. even more than Survivor... I do love the participants this year, well except the BB teams.. I don't know who they are except for the one chick who was the crybaby when she ran AR with her now husband. I wonder if the waterworks will start this season. I do love the Afganimals.. will probably end up rooting for them to win (because Rupert and his wife probably are not going to do so well).. Those boys crack me up.

It definitely looks like the Survivors are going to be the weakest teams. They were bottom 3. Not a great start, however 2 of them seem to be the oldest teams and that probably has a bigger impact, and let's not forget that someone convinced Eliza that a stick with a face drawn on it was an immunity idol. She's not the brightest crayon in the box.
I'll be waiting all season for the epic meltdown of Colin "my ox is broken" because you know after him talking about how much he's mellowed and showing him meditating that it has got to be coming.
I like Rupert because he's a decent guy, he seems to be hardworking and we've seen how loyal he is to his wife, he's probably a good Dad and a good provider and it would be nice for someone like that to win...but he's not a details person and he doesn't take direction well and that's going to be his downfall here.

I thought the second road block was more of a Big Brother type challenge and, IIRC, all the BB teams did it easily. Given the trouble Leo seemed to have with it, I expected more teams to struggle. And can we discuss Bret getting to the top of the hill and not knowing he needed to grab a clue?!
For the chocolate shoe, I would have just started with one row and worked my way across. I'm not sure if anyone actually tried that technique - they all seemed to be randomly picking.
Rupert annoys me but I really like Laura. They were really lucky. Who takes a 4 hour penalty on the first leg of the race? Chances of it being a nonelimination leg are zero. I'm assuming they knew one team was behind them but still it felt like quitting to us.
Rachel is slightly annoying although I like her a lot more when Brendan isn't around.

Team Becca and Floyd! I was so sad when Floyd couldn't continue the last time. He was in so much pain & agony. I wonder if the participants are given enough support, such as drinking water & food while they "run"? I only see them eating when there it is part of the race.
There were two situations on Amazing Race Canada (different years, I think), when there were emergencies. One was during a water challenge, when a guy ripped his shoulder (they showed the EMS stuff) and another was when a gal was on the beach where they had to dig out sand, & put the sand over her legs. Her muscles started cramping and she was in a lot of pain. She had to go the emergency but somehow, was able to continue in the race.
It must be quite the liability waiver that the participants must sign before they go on the show.

I thought it was a great first episode and loved that they went to Tokyo because I've been there twice and love Japan. I thought before it started that the Survivor players and the BB players were going to be at a disadvantage compared to those who had played The Amazing Race before-clearly knowing how it works ahead of time would be an advantage. I also figured Rupert wouldn't do well and saw it right away when he and Laura were standing on a street in Tokyo trying to find the first place-just standing there with bewildered looks on their faces saying, "Now what do we do"? "I don't know." C'mon-you read the clue and figure out where to go. If I didn't know I'd go into the first business I saw and ask for help there-Do you know where such and such a place is? Everyone was walking around asking out loud into the air, "Do you speak English?" to anyone and everyone. I think to the Japanese this probably was seen as rude. Japanese people are very polite and reserved and in big cities most of them do speak English especially those that work in businesses relating to the public. I think by acting politely to a Japanese person first when asking for help and speaking one to one it would have gotten them much further. I did see a few teams doing this on the street. As far as the teams go I really like Becca and Floyd because they always see the fun in whatever part of the race they are in. I hope they go far. I also like Tyler and Corey for the same reason. I don't like Eliza and Corrine (for being mean and nasty on Survivor-mostly Corrine for what she said to Sugar), Rupert and Laura I'm okay with but I don't think they are going to go far, I like Brett and his partner because I liked them on Survivor but I also don't think they are going to go far, cannot stand Rachel and her sister, and I'm warming up to the Afgananimals-I hated them their first season. Love what the one guy said about how he is playing for his cat.

But Bret not knowing he had to grab a clue - seriously??? Not a bright moment for him. It seemed to me that all the chocolate shoes were a little bit more white than the wooden shoes. Thats what i would have been looking for And yes Rachel is better without Brendon - so far anyway

It seemed to me that all the shoes were a little bit more white than the wooden shoes. Thats what i would have been looking for But they couldn't see that far and the wall had special lighting as well. I would have been pissed to risk breaking my teeth. The chocolate shoe looked so real I probably would have been too scared to bite into it. Why did they have to finish the shoe? I'd be like this is too many calories! Don't want a load of sugar when I have to run off and need full energy to complete the challenge. Also was every group biting the same shoes? So the shoes at other people's saliva on it? Did you notice how most people in Japan had clear umbrellas!

Did you notice how most people in Japan had clear umbrellas! There were 12 chocolate shoes. Once one was found, it was out of the challenge because the team finding it had eaten about an inch or so at both ends. You could see the line clearly marking how much they had to eat and hear them asking if they were done as they handed off the shoe and received their next clue.
