Ok, 50ish women. Wk 1 of my weekly thread! I'm sooo excited. I decided on the name. the REAL50s. Mainly because I think we will all be real. Posting real problems and real hopes and dreams. But be nice to each other. None of the, these are the golden years BS. unless it IS the golden years for you. Then post away!
I will try to start a new thread on sundays, along with a talking point, but certainly add in anything about your wk if you want.
******What age do you actually feel? vs your actual physical age?*******
I'll start. I feel 40, but I am actually 55. I still can not believe I am 55??! WTH did that happen? When I actually have to say I am 55 yrs old, out loud, I cringe. I remember when my mom was 55 I thought that was old. I don't feel that old, but my body sometimes tell me I'm that age. I definitely do not feel like my 20s and 30s, because I feel like I'm glad those years are done, and know better. So I picked. 40!

This morning I feel my age (49) because we had thunderstorms that kept me up half the night. I feel young. It's kind of hard to believe that I'm going to be 50 next year.

I'll be 49 later this month. Some days I feel much older (arthritis and limited mobility will do that) but in my head I don't feel as old as 49 seems if that makes sense
Age is just a number though and I've never been one to stress about turning a year older or reaching a milestone birthday

Age is just a number though and I've never been one to stress about turning a year older or reaching a milestone birthday I have always believed that, until I turned 50. That's going to be a future talking point also!

I feel 55. This, the good and the bad of it, is how 55 years look on me. I think people often perceive me to be older than 55 -- I have natural 85% gray hair and my fair share of age spots and sags and bumps, but I also have a lot of energy (most days) and can keep up with my young adult sons on a rigorous hike. I honestly like my 50s.

I'm 59 and I honestly feel like I'm 40 or so.
My eyes are getting worse and I've had a lot of dental work over the last year, but other than that, I feel great!

I’m almost 46 and probably feel 39-40. I used to feel younger but lately I keep pulling my calf muscle so I can’t run and even my hiking is way down. I think that combined with premenopaus is also causing some weight gain which sucks and makes me feel “older”.

Since I’m looking down the barrel at 60 next year, sometimes I feel it. Especially since my eyesight seems to be diminishing at a very steady pace and now my hearing is starting to go too. BUT most of the time I feel like I’m in my 30’s. No real aches or pains, knock wood.

Can I say I don't know how old I feel? I'm 50. That seems SO weird to say!
Definitely feeling much older than 25 for sure. Like, when I sit on the couch for a few hours with DH in the evening, watching TV, playing iPad games or working on my laptop, I definitely ache when I get up. Stiff, slower to move until I get going, kind of thing.
We are finally buying ourselves a complete, matching bedroom suite, so we will be getting a new mattress. I will be testing multiple ones when we go shopping for that. I hate the one we currently have! I feel stiff in the morning when I get up. But I think I get a half decent enough night's sleep.
Started taking Evening Primrose morning and evening (if I remember evening) and that seems to help with the hot flashes.
And I just have to add - currently 10 days late - NEVER been this late before except when pregnant (and that is 100% not possible). Woo hoo!!
(of course I'm terrified that when it does come it will be a murder scene and while on vacation in California lol)

I’m 42, most of the time mentally I feel young(late 20s goofy carefree positive feelings) but some days I feel 80 with all these new aches and pains and eye floaters it gets me down, gah.
So I’ve heard it’ll get better in my 50s, is that optimistic/delusional friends just trying to be positive? 🤷🏻♀️😏
That’s why I’m here, to hear the real truth about 50s. I remember Oprah saying turning 50 was best time in her life. Well duh if I had all that money I might be thinking that too. Hehe.

I'm 48 but feel like 40, I think. I really like the wisdom that I feel being this age. More sure of myself, if that makes sense.
Question - who knows anything about the FSH blood test? Just got my results and want someone to help me interpret. It said my value was 94.5. Does that mean I'm officially in menopause? I assume my Dr will call me, as I just saw the results online, but is this a reliable indicator??

I'm early 50s but often feel more like late 50s. I remember my mom when she was this age, and she was so vigorous! I have arthritic knees and shoulder pain (some sort of rotator cuff problem) that slow me down.
I have to say I'm enjoying 50s. I like the "invisibility" of being a woman in late middle age, though it's crummy professionally. I don't worry as much about weirdos trying to cop a feel on the subway or following me home. I wear what I want, and my shoes are all comfortable. I love that my kids are all independent (i.e. they can take the train by themselves and don't need a babysitter).

I’m 57 🙂 Generally I embrace that with a positive outlook and feel about 40 maybe but occasionally I see my skin in a harsh light or I can’t jump up off the floor very quickly and then I remember and don’t feel quite so positive 😉

I am 48 and my body feels much older, between herniated disc in my lower back & neck and now I wake up in the morning and my fingers feel stiff and achy. Annoys me to no end because I want to go,go, go and do things without waiting for help. My body is talking loud and clear and it isn't using nice words. On the plus side I don't look 48 and teaching Kinder keeps me eternally 5 years old. They are always kind and patient as their teacher tries to get up from sitting legs cross apple sauce on the carpet.

I feel much younger in my head but my body probably not so much.

I'm just shy of 52, but honestly my health is not good and most days I feel and look much older. It's crazy because I never looked my age until about 5 years ago and WHOOMP! it alllll caught up with me and then some. LOL I'm still astounded by the physical changes coming along with age! I knew they happened, obviously, but to me? Huh? Haha

I think I feel my age - 50. I know my reactions have slowed, probably not by much but I can tell. I've been long-sighted all my life, with the expected specs for close-up work since mid-40s, but in the past 18 months I suddenly (almost overnight) became short-sighted too. My optician wasn't bothered, said this stage of life all kinds of weird things happen (thanks) and in the last few months I can feel the long sight is coming back. What's that all about then? I take longer to straighten up after doing a couple of hours of weeding. I have slight arthritis in my finger and wrist joints which mean I can't put my hands flat on the floor if I'm crawling (yes, I'm at that "while I'm down there" stage), and my neck gets stiff. I've had a coil for 16 months now and my periods are erratic but much lighter. I have endometriosis pain. I don't need to wash my hair as often as I used to, and my skin is less dry.
None of it is enough to get wound up about, it's just small niggles that remind me that I'm not 30.

I have been feeling old since brother in-law died and now I feel ancient since I stepped on that nail. It feels like I am walking on a seal fin full of rocks. Very tiring

Just turned 58. Physically I feel like I could be in my 70's. I was in a car accident 30 years ago and it totally messed up my neck and back and it's only gotten worse over the years. That said, I try not to let it slow me down. Now mentally is a whole other story....other than being forgetful, and gaining the wisdom that comes with age, I feel 29. I still want to do all the fun things the "cool kids" do So, young at heart is my mantra.

That’s exactly it RedSquirrelUK. My vision has always been quite poor (I needed lenses since I was 15) but now I have monovision lenses I rarely need my reading glasses 🙂 My DDs tell me i’m quite youthful in my style of clothes so I rely on them quite a bit to tell me when i’ve got it wrong!! It is weird though isn’t it- nearly 60...I swear I was 21 a couple of years ago!

Today I feel my age, 50. I was recently diagnosed with plantar fasciitis and I can't walk my daily walk. It makes me feel old. This summer I was also told I need progressive lenses. Boo! LOL!

I'm very close to 60, but feel like early to mid 40s. I don't take any meds; have literally no aches or pains; and I am in good physical shape. My husband and I have been retired for almost ten years, and we travel a lot; including a lot of hiking, so I'm sure that helps us.
My girlfriends and I always say a good fitting pair of jeans and a good uplifting bra will do wonders for you!

I'm 52 and while I have some ongoing issues with my back, mentally I feel much younger. I can't guess the age because throughout my life, I've always felt younger than I am. It's my plan to always stay young at heart.

I'll be 60 next month and in my 50's noticed that my eyebrows really lightened and thinned. My eyelashes stopped growing, but I've fixed that with Careprost. So, a lot more upkeep there. Most days I feel like I'm in my 40s. I workout daily and other than about 5 vanity lbs or so my weight is good and I eat healthy. I do have herniated discs in my lumbar and neck, but cortisone is my friend. I've been on HRT since I was 46 after my hysterectomy, so I don't know what menopause really is. And some days I dress like I'm 25...
