My good friends are moving right now. They def did not want gifts in the form of more items to deal with. Those of us who are closest pitched in and gave a visa GC to help with gas, meals, expenses during the move or anything they might need when they arrive at their new home. That was our suggestion to anyone who asked.
This doesn’t apply in your case but I’ll leave this here in case this might help anyone else. the few items we did give them were a welcome mat with their name and an appropriate phrase, and I made a small box for special cards and mementos. I made a collage of pics of our times together (all her girls) and printed on sticker paper. One went inside the lid and the other went in the bottom. DD’s friend does calligraphy. I had her do some lettering on the front… distance means so little when someone means so much.

I replaced my 3 ton A/C unit exactly a year ago tomorrow. Cost was $7,000.

I’m so sorry these anniversaries are so hard. A year in is so much more real than when it first happened bc the numbness has worn off.

I’m so sorry I wish I could help. It was myboysnme who was kind enough to start the scrapping challenge. I haven’t scrapped in years so I won’t be much help. I passed along cards from non-scrappers.
Donna was a special lady and it’s so sweet of the peas to remember her in this way.

I also love the name and think you should include the quote in your materials. I wouldn’t hire you but I’m very good at these tasks and help people in my life do it, so there is definitely a need. Also agree that people would want assistance with selling, and they might also use added “disposal” services, including packing, schlepping, online selling, donating, pick-ups, garage sale organization and pricing. Re: Donating Assistance: I’m often surprised people don’t understand what is/isn’t thrift store donate-able. I’ve also helped people figure out alternate donation recipients (office supplies to favorite not-for-profits; children’s books to neighbors; shopping bags and hangers to the charity thrift store; packing peanuts and bubble wrap to to a friend who eBays; fabric and yarn to the high school sewing teacher; photo paper to the high school photography teacher; paint, clothes and accessories to community or high school/college theatre departments).
Hell, people also don’t even know what/what not/how to curbside recycle or how to do specialty recycling like paint or electronics…or they don’t understand what types of large things you can put curbside/alley and they’ll be plucked up by Regular Joes or metal salvagers. tl;dr: I’m sure people would pay for donation ideas or even outreach, packing up and schlepping. Basically, plenty of people, especially now, really want to avoid landfills but lack reuse/recycle imagination.
Good luck! Really great point, and I would think a simple document would be easy to prepare and have to pass out. Don’t forget items for animal shelters like old blankets and towels. My shelter has a list on their website, along with what new donations they are looking for. I’ve donated paint to our community theater department, but never even considered clothes and accessories. Thanks! Another point… my friend is moving and downsizing. She took all her extra blankets to the homeless shelter and then realized she needed them to protect furniture in the moving truck. So an “order of operations” might be helpful too.

@bergdorfblonde sent me this PM: “Just in case the Peas are looking for me, Gary is still in the hospital since Sunday. He needs prayers. His fingers and torso are yellow today. Could be his liver cancer. I'm worried sick this time.” 🙏🙏🙏 Thank you for the update jenjie Please tell her I'm thinking of her if you speak/text her. Gosh they are both going through so much. Yes I sent her a PM letting her know people are praying or wishing them well. She is so appreciative.

I love cucumbers m. I don’t particularly care for burpless or mini cucumbers, they seem a little more.. dense? I don’t know.
Since starting paleo, I’ve started slicing cucumbers thin and using them as “chips” with pico de Gallo.

I cannot picture you putting appliances over your head! That’s quite a reach! It is! I get up to the counter via the tall stepstool and then haul it over my head to the shelf. It's a dangerous thing to do!!! Yes! It is! Please be careful ❤️

pjaye is right. Being in Australia, she understands what’s happening in your area better than the rest of us. And the idea of being disappointed over and over again sounds horrible. Happy birthday!!!

I am not a minimalist but I like the look of a kitchen counter without all the small appliances on it. Like others of you, I watched a lot of videos during lockdown and decluttered. I found homes for my kitchenaid, air fryer and IP. Everything looked nice and neat. And now, obvious not because of that, I have osteoarthritis in my low back and it hurts to bend down to get the items in and out. So they sit on the counter again. (I do still put the IP away for now but I’m questioning it.) And now it annoys me more than it did before I knew better. Hope your osteoarthritis in your back isn't too bad. You bent down to get your appliances and I've recently placed them above my kitchen cabinets! This 5' oldie got a 3 step stepstool to hike up and bring down the appliances as I need them. I'm ready to just ditch them (except for my IP). I'm too old to be navigating a heavy appliance while standing on my counter! I cannot picture you putting appliances over your head! That’s quite a reach!

Vacation Bible School! I didn’t sign up to help, but popped in to drop off some Snacks and hang out a bit. I ended up immediately finding myself a job of dealing with traffic bc the parking lot was a mess. I ran in and grabbed a yellow safety vest and got busy. Now I have a job the rest of the week. 😂
Also one of my BFFs is moving out of state. Her closest friends, me and two others, are planning TWO events - one is a big churchwide luncheon on behalf of her and dh we were asked to head up, and the other is an intimate tea with her close friends. Neither is a surprise. The texts, phone calls and ideas have been flying. It’s going to be super special for them and we are so glad to be able to do this for them.

DD’s bridal shower! Her friends did an amazing job and wouldn’t let me help. It was a beautiful time. Afterwards my family came to my house for dinner and we surprised my brother by celebrating his birthday. Lots of laughter and good conversation.

Ooh nice! No, none of that. I’m very fortunate though, the previous owners renovated and made a standard kitchen into something that made me drool. The biggest issue for me is the kitchenaid. Worse than that, ds and I had a conversation or two bc he couldn’t understand why I want to put it away. Shamefully, I won the battle but he won the war because it went his way after all. 😂 would appliance garages work on your counter/cabinet set-up? You would be able to just slide the appliances forward to use but they wouldn't be visible when not in use? Something like this... build-basic.com/build-a-diy-appliance-garage/#.YPXM4-hKiUkOoh maybe! Thank you!

dewryce that’s nice! So helpful! Unfortunately that wouldn’t work for me. My cabinets have drawers AND the shelves themselves are pullout drawers, each the width of double cabinets. Great suggestion though! These take up a lot of space. If you have multiples, I guess you really do need to be more minimal. Dang! I’d kill for a set-up like yours though, but probably would want one full size cabinet for taller items. We didn’t have that option with our builder so have had to install aftermarket pullouts. Do you have a higher (like arm height not over the head!) pantry shelf they could go on so you don’t have to bend over? My cousin has a ginormous walk-in pantry and when I helped her organize it, after I finished drooling, we made one wall almost all appliances, so helpful! Ooh nice! No, none of that. I’m not a coffee drinker, but dh was. He would go, not to a coffee shop, but to the convenience store (Wawa!) for his daily coffee. Just a plain black coffee. He would have one at home and one from the store.
That’s what often happens around here. We will have a gathering and someone will make a Wawa run for coffee. I don’t get it. 🤷🏻♀️ But it’s a thing.

I’ve got no idea where you’re getting these numbers. I think you’re overthinking/over complicating it. Half your weight in ounces is to be interpreted as your weight in pounds - say 120 - divide that in half - so 60 - and drink that many fluid ounces. No one is recommending anyone drink 27 liters of water a day. I was quoting the poster who stated half your weight in water, no unit of measure was stated. I am a nurse and get my info from reliable medical sources and books and am very careful in what info I put out. I’m sorry for not being more specific. What busy said is what I meant.

A friend recommended the Everlywell test to me. She has very helpful results. You probably know there are two different tests. You can choose the less expensive or more foods tested.
I didn’t use that test only bc I went to a homeopath who tested me on a biofeedback machine. She was able to tell me a bunch of stuff - food sensitivities are dairy, gluten and legumes, in addition to the shellfish allergy I already knew about; not breaking down proteins properly; adrenals and liver need help. She also tested my supplements to see if they are compatible with me. Some were, some weren’t. I swapped out a few and overall am now taking less than I was before I went.
In case this is helpful to you or anyone else, this is what she asked me to do in the meantime when I called to schedule the appt. it’s her general recommendation for anyone to support your health.
-paleo diet, with the addition of no red meat -drink half your weight in water with electrolyte drops added -walk 30 mins daily to benefit your lymph system
There were 3 weeks between my call and our appt. By the time she tested me, she was so pleased and said she could tell I had been faithful to her program.. I expected a laundry list of issues, but there weren’t many.

That’s what I’m afraid of 😢 I think it would have been nice for her to dance with her brothers but they decided to just forgo that part of the reception. I know for one of my relatives that also factored into asking the mom to walk her down the aisle. She knew she wouldn't be able to hold it together to walk up the aisle and wanted to stand quietly at the front crying. I know the day will be bittersweet - hoping for the best for your family and a long happy marriage for your daughter. Thank you ❤️

Dd asked me to walk her down the aisle. Her wedding is in August. My best friend did this. She also danced with her mom for the first dance. There wasn’t a dry eye in the whole place. That’s what I’m afraid of 😢 I think it would have been nice for her to dance with her brothers but they decided to just forgo that part of the reception.
