I love it! The challenge, the self reflection, the changes you're making... what a brilliant idea. The gray dress is perfect -- I especially love it with those blue tights. And congrats on the pretty red dress -- you look so incredibly happy! You must have had a great Christmas.

Everything was a hit around here -- an excellent group effort. DS gave me a set of dishes from WS that have bees and honeycombs on them. I love bees, so that was a really thoughtful gift. It will look lovely in my new kitchen. DH gave me a Bose noise-cancelling headset for the plane. I'm freaking excited about that one -- we have lots of trips planned this year.

She shot at him as he was driving away. I don’t think she mixed up her taser and gun at all. I think she was trying to kill him.

I'm sorry for what you're going through. I had also noticed your hints at problems. Giant holiday hugs to you.
I really really love the shape of that desk. It's really pretty. Enjoy it!

Kind of sad for him.
There were two bald eagles in a tree at the bottom of my street yesterday. Just hanging out by the river. I got goosebumps. Unfortunately I didn't have my phone with me, and when I went back they had left.
We had a pair of nesting red-tailed hawks in our yard for a few years. It was so much fun to watch them teaching the babies to fly and hunt.

Why bother, there are Pea kids all over airplanes with Covid. Anything goes. No one cares unless it's to handslap myshelly for going to some Nascar event. ETA ignore me, I'm in a mood and read another post incorrectly. I'll see myself out after shutting the eff up. 😞 I don't give a shit about people traveling or going to events. I was pissed at her attitude that since she didn't know anyone who had gotten really sick or died from covid, she didn't care about it. She even used the "meh" emoji. On a thread where person after person was talking about their losses. We're not changing our usual group, but this year we're going to my mom's senior living place because I can't make dinner in my gutted kitchen. It's kind of nice not to cook for the holidays for a change. I always enjoy our smaller Christmases with just our immediate family. I'm always super tired by the time the day rolls around.

When I'm alone, I walk my normal pace. I don't hurry across unless I'm actually in a hurry. When I'm with DH or my mom, I go super slow since they're both disabled. And yes, DH has been honked at because he walks slowly.

Baklava (don't know if this counts as Middle Eastern, as it's Greek, but most of the pita places have it) My mom used to make it and it's one of my favorite things. I had the best Jordanian version of baklava that was made with pistachios. DS’s BF got it in the airport in Amman so I can’t help you with a recipe. Middle Eastern pastries are wonderful.

We started watching the first episode last night, couldn't remember any of the storyline, and decided we'd better brush up on season 1 first. I really like the show.

That is so hard to hear. We had so much fun at SIX and Hadestown the last weekend in October. The Broadway shows both required masks and everyone wore them. It looks like it will be another tough winter. I’m so jealous you got tickets to SIX. How was it? So much fun! Absolutely electric. I highly recommend it. The audience being part of the show was the best.

I went to a wedding last summer where the mother of the groom lives in England and tested positive the week before and couldn't come here. Her granddaughter carried her virtually on an ipad in the procession to the ceremony. The mom even said a prayer over the candle lighting virtually. Maybe something like that could work if you're still not comfortable with the risk of being there in person? The granddaughter even took the ipad around to all the tables at the reception so she could say hi to the guests.

Wow, that's a lot going on. I hope your DH continues to feel better (I had cellulitis once and it was a really miserable time) and that your insurance covers it. Hoping your mom is comfortable and pain free as she continues her MM treatments.
I hope you really enjoy your new property and the new year gives you much joy as you finish moving in and discover more about rural life.

My mom is getting all the greeting cards she will need this year, with a book of stamps. And some chocolate covered cashews that she loves. My FIL is getting a cool framed map that he wanted. My MIL is getting a Spoonful of Comfort meal of soup, rolls, and cookies. I sent it last year and they enjoyed it. They don't enjoy cooking anymore.

According to the Boston Globe, a new study from researchers in Hong Kong found that Omicron spreads around 70 times faster than Delta or the original COVID-19 strain. It looks like it's going to be another tough winter.

aj2hall I always appreciated your sourced and reasoned posts. With sources that actually use fact checkers. As far as omicron goes, I'm happy my family and I are all fully vaccinated (with boosters), so it's a concern but not too scary to me yet. A friend is head of one of the departments at Wentworth Douglass Hospital, and they're so slammed they're getting National Guard help. And omicron isn't even the prevalent variant yet. He said everyone is just exhausted, and this wave is just getting going.

Neither of mine had a serious relationship until college. Once they were living on their own at college, not a problem when they came home. They're 23 and 27 now, and living with their SOs. Who knows if they'll ever get married, doesn't bother me one whit. They stay together in their old rooms now. I bought larger beds so they'd be comfortable when they visit.

My remodel has my kitchen and primary bath completely gutted since the week of Thanksgiving. I sort of have a tree up -- none of my lights worked, and I've been scrambling to find enough to cover a 9' tree. I had no idea there was a major holiday light shortage.
DS, DD, her boyfriend, and their dog are coming to stay for 10 days starting Friday. Hahahahahahaha.
The only gift I have for DH is a flashlight with a red lens for using on the plane. Oh, and a joke t-shirt.
DD sent me links for her and BF, so I ordered it. But they're going to have to wrap it.
DS is getting a check.
It will be fine. Keep telling myself that. So long as everyone moves their cars out of the driveway by 7:30am so the workers can get their trucks up there.

Do your kids know about the other woman?
My sister's ex brought their (HS age) kids to a work party where his girlfriend was attending. Everyone at the party knew she was his girlfriend except the kids. My sister told him that if he didn't explain what was going on, she would for putting them in that awkward situation with someone they knew for years. He refused, so she discussed it with them at a family counselor's office. He moved out the next day without telling them, which was supposed to be the start of a family vacation. Sis took the kids on the vacation and they spent the time having conversations about how much she loved them and wanted the best for them. They pretty much don't want anything to do with him anymore.
You keep your kids close and be sure they know how much you love and support them. They will always be grateful for that.
You are handling this with remarkable grace and strength.

We're in the middle of a renovation, and my kitchen is currently gutted. Same with the primary bath. You have to walk through plastic sheets to get to the different parts of the house.
I'm still trying to put up my tree. I've had a heck of a time finding lights to replace the ones that didn't work. Got a bunch yesterday, so hopefully it will be lit by tonight. That and a wreath on the front door are it. That wreath accompanies the pots of dead basil that I still haven't replaced.

My son's partner is a maternal fetal specialist in high risk pregnancies. He's recommending that all his patients be vaccinated.
If she is unvaccinated, the hospital may not let her have visitors. If, God forbid, something happens and the baby needs to be in the NICU, she may be considered a visitor and may not be allowed to visit the baby. That's how it works at his hospital.

Mice can slip through a hole the width of a pencil -- you're never going to be able to seal your entire house from them. They love to follow the water pipes into all areas of the house.
Your best bet is to set out half a dozen (or even 10) traps at the same time with various baits. If you have one mouse, you have a dozen. You need to trap them all within a short time before they have more babies. Keep it up for 3 weeks or so, or until you stop trapping any.
If you call an exterminator, they generally use an anticoagulant chemical bait. Those chemicals can be toxic to the wildlife that may eat the mice after they are poisoned and leave the house.
Can you tell I've had to deal with this before?

That reminds me of a few weeks ago when we were going to a restaurant. I told DH to turn into the wrong side street, and he had to turn around in a driveway. A car came down the side street just behind us, and we were a little embarrassed thinking that we turned into their driveway. But no, that car turned around in the same driveway just after we did. Then they followed us into the restaurant. That poor house on the wrong side street must get a lot of turnarounds.
I wonder if we both made it onto their NextDoor?
