Not for everyone, but I got my YA nieces and their SOs Mickey Mouse waffle irons, and a bag of Carbon Golden Waffle Mix; the official waffle mix of the Disneyland Resort. It's both of my nieces favorite Disneyland food, and neither will be getting to go "Home" anytime soon. I love that waffle mix -- the malted smell is just intoxicating. I gave a waffle maker and that mix for a bridal shower recently.

I'm feeling anxious and exhausted. I'm finally getting the kitchen/bath renovation I've been wanting for years, and I'm feeling completely out of place in my own home. I'm doing dishes in the bathroom sink and making dinner in the toaster oven.
My kids are coming for a week and a half at Christmas, which I'm very excited about. But I'm also kind of dreading, YKWIM?
My tree is assembled, but not decorated. I have a wreath on the front door, but dead basil from summer in the planters. I might take some time today for some minimal decorating.

We loved Hadestown -- those swinging lamps... the gorgeous music... Andre De Sheilds.. it was fantastic.
Ilili Lebanese was the best meal we had there. My son's Jordanian partner said it was the best he'd had outside the Middle East. I highly recommend it.
We went to Joe Allen's for drinks-- loved it. The bar was so perfect. We didn't eat dinner there.
Walking around Central Park was a highlight. I'd like to take a tour that tells me more about it. Everything is so perfectly kept -- their arborists must be the best in the world.

In my brief search, Disclose.tv is listed as a tinfoil hat conspiracy website and propaganda. You'll need a better source than that.

The ones I didn't know were Shein, Dalgona, and Kelce. I love to mispronounce Dogecoin, because it originally came from Dog E-coin, so I call it doggycoin. Makes my kids annoyed.
I'm pretty good with Greek letters and names. Having studied engineering helped -- a bunch of my college professors were Greek and we used Greek letters in equations all the time.

I've been listening to Murdaugh Murders, about the crazy unfolding murder case unfolding in rural South Carolina. The host is an investigative journalist, and she is carefully following all the intertwined threads of the case. It's really good, and I can't wait until Wednesdays when the new episodes drop.

Is it ok if I ask a piggyback question? Do peas use the subway system often while in the city? I’ve looked at the subway maps and the site - I’m usually pretty comfortable with public transportation (and actually really like public transportation- I’m odd like that)but the subway maps and directions are not super intuitive- other than don’t jump on an express train by accident lol. Anyway - interested in any tips. I always get around by subway and walking (Uber/Lyft sometimes) and Google maps is great (I'm sure there are other apps too, but I just use Google Maps). If you put in your destination it will tell you how to walk to the subway, which train to take (and it's estimated arrival), how many stops on the train, any train transfers, and how to walk on the other end of your ride. It's straightforward to use and avoid jumping on an express when you don't want it, etc. Also, you can now use a credit card with a chip instead of buying a Metro Card and doing Metro Card math. The first time you use the credit card in the system, you can only use it once. After that you can "pass back" (i.e. I think up to four people can use the same card and tap it). LOLOL I messed that up so badly taking the subway from Penn Station to the hotel. I tried to push my rolling bag through and it caught the turnstyle. So there I was on one side with my bag on the other and it wouldn't take my apple pay to let me go through. I had to pull out another credit card from the bottom of my purse that I could tap with. I'm such a yokel. My kids stood there laughing at me.

Because they cannot hear and do not realize that other people actually can hear!!! Seriously only figured this out recently. While there are some who are just rude, there are others like my MIL who are clueless. She can only hear people on the cell phone when she puts it on speaker and holds it to her ear. It's SO DARN LOUD! She also keeps her TV so loud that it is painful. We bought her OTC hearing aids from Amazon but she only wore them for 2 days. I could go on and on but she is definitely one of those that uses her cell phone on speaker ALL.THE.TIME! This is a percentage of the problem - my dad cannot hear at all unless it's on speaker and full volume. It's a legitimate issue - now he's not walking around the mall trying to talk to people, but I will acknowledge that there are people who really cannot hear when it's not on speaker and LOUD. Mostly those it's cluelessness. My mom is the same. She has the speaker on so loudly.

We actually used yellow taxis most of the time when we were in NYC recently. They've made it easy to pay on the screen in the backseat. You can also download the taxi app and take care of it that way. Our doorman at the hotel would flag them down for us. I had hurt my foot right before we went, and wasn't up for my usual amount of walking. ETA kiera we did find the cabs to be cheaper. And easy to get from the hotel. We also used the subway. There's an app that you can look up all the maps and figure out where you need to be and which line/train you need to be on. They also added an app that uses apple pay for the fares. That part was super easy to use.

I love my silk long underwear. It's barely there, and yet keeps me toasty warm. They're so thin, you can wear them under any of your regular clothes.

Thank you everyone. I had a few of the ziplock twist top containers so I picked up more. I made a large batch of chili and one of chicken tortilla soup. I now have about 15 servings in my freezer. I was looking for other recipes but got mixed ideas. One said rice soups are good to freeze another said they are not good to freeze. 😜. So maybe another thread of favorite freezeable soups. Again, thank you. I love Italian wedding soup, and it freezes really well. I actually like it better after freezing because the greens soak in the soup flavor and don't taste as strong. Ric can get a little mushy in frozen rice soups, but I don't mind that.

I think that if grandma wants a relationship with them, there are better ways to go about it. If she was planning on making it a judgy statement on Christmas, then I think she'll never have a relationship with them.
I lived really far away from both my sets of grandparents when I was a kid. I only saw them a couple times a year. Even so, I had a great relationship with them without texting. We chatted when my parents called them on Sundays.
Similar situation with my kids, although now I live close to my mom. The kids visit and text and chat with all their grandparents. They visit when they're in town. It works. Nobody seems cranky about it.

I just want to add that Rep. Massie has multiple degrees from MIT. He's a brilliant electrical engineer who won multiple prizes while there. He's very bright and clearly very messed up. I knew a lot of people at MIT like that. I read that. How can the man is a tasteless jackass and a brilliant engineer? I’m gonna just say that it’s one of life’s little mysteries. ☺️ Definitely. I think that brilliant people who are complete assholes are the worst. Calling Ted Cruz.

I’d find this gross at any time but posting something like this just days after (yet another) school shooting is especially repugnant. 💯. I guess that this is what passes for humor in the gun nut set. People like this are probably best avoided if at all possible. They’re uncouth, not very bright, and want everyone to know that THEY LOVE GUNS. I just want to add that Rep. Massie has multiple degrees from MIT. I like 12. That seems to be the magic number of people I serve. I have two 6-person tables. My everyday stuff is a mess, so when my kitchen Reno is done I’m going to pull out my mom’s set of stoneware from the basement where I’m storing it for her. She’ll never use it again. Anyhow, it’s some pretty Scottish design with thistles on it. It will look great in my new kitchen.

I feel like we are living in completely different worlds sometimes. No one wears masks here. No mask mandates. No one asks about your vax status. No showing your papers anywhere. I saw Hamilton last week with 4,000 of my closest friends. No showing anything to get in. I only even think about Covid when I read threads on here. And you know what? It’s fine. I haven’t gotten it. I don’t know anyone who’s had a serious case of it or had lasting effects from it or has died. It’s lovely to not be afraid all the time 🤷🏻♀️ F*** you. Those of us who have lost multiple loved ones to this disease blame assholes like you.

For $1000, I’d add some nice restaurant meals to go with my Broadway tix from the $400 thread. $5000 and $10000 would get me some relaxing vacations.

I buy my mom cards for every occasion during the year. She can't get around very well, and the shop in her complex doesn't have very good cards. I buy b-day and anniversary cards for everyone in the extended family, a couple get well and sympathy cards. That and a book of stamps, and she really appreciates having them on hand. I also get her a box of her favorite chocolates (milk chocolate cashew clusters from the local candy store.)

That question is one to ask your attorney. I know. I just hired them and gave them the rest of the information this morning. I just want it to be instantaneous I understand. You've made your decision, and now you want it to be finished. Except you have to sit around while wheels continue to turn. It's frustrating.

I get the frustration as it took me months to convince dh to vaccinate and he’s already stated he won’t be getting a booster. 🙄 But to say someone who didn’t get a booster is “basically unvaccinated” is unfair. The vaccine, even without the booster, is still highly successful (for most people) at keeping people alive and out of the hospital. The thing is that people who are hesitant/adverse to any COVID vaccine hear this and figure it won’t stop at 3, there will be a 4th, 5th, 6th booster needed so why bother even getting one. They’d rather just roll the dice and get “natural immunity”. In reality though if everyone just had the original the hospitals and funeral homes wouldn’t be overwhelmed and maybe we could get a handle on this. I came in here to say this. He's protected... he'll get the booster soon... it will be fine. The vaccine is not invalidated because he doesn't have the booster. The vaccine doesn't end its protection at six months -- but we want to be prepared for the omicron variant, because we don't know yet if it's going to be a problem. So make sure he gets that appointment (and CVS is taking walkins along with appointments when they have time.) I understand you're venting, but I hope we can reassure you that it will be fine.

As soon as something isn't fun anymore, I stop doing it. I used to love making handmade cards... until I didn't. I used to love baking lots of cookies... until I didn't. I used to make a bunch of gingerbread houses... not anymore.
Now we all go to some crafty/wine bar sort of thing the week before Christmas and have a ball. We usually do a concert or performance.
We go big on presents and stockings. That's what we like. And I make a big Christmas dinner that's my favorite.
I have the housecleaners come in more often during the season, and that takes care of that.
This year is a weird one - My kitchen is demolished and won't be ready until mid-January. So we're not doing any cooking at home. I'm debating whether we'll set up the tree at all.

I think there was one by Aaron sorkin after west wing, but not studio 60. Anyone know what that was? The Newsroom -- it was pretty good with his trademark snappy dialog.

So is the implication that all 18,000 FDA employees could each stop their work and process 21 pages? Is that what they want? Having worked before for a government agency I will say that not all employees can be involved in processing a FOIA request. Many times, it must be an attorney who processes the requests. So it's not a matter of scientists and secretaries who can process such a request. It usually involves a single individual or a small team that can actually do this kind of work. It's not correct to suggest that the 18.000 employees can all work together to process a FOIA request. Sorry, I was being tongue in cheek. They seem to think their FOIA is more important than the actual work being done at the FDA.

His age difference with Vic didn't bother me at all. I see that sort of thing all the time in real life. I like the actress who played Vic -- loved her in Battlestar Galactica and The Mandalorian.
I loved Lou Diamond Phillips' character in this show. He is a very talented actor.
