I didn’t even give my own kids a gift for 8th grade graduation/promotion. We just went out for ice cream after the ceremony. If you feel like you really need to give a gift, I’d give $15.

Wow, l lived in the area when this happened as well. I’m glad that they have finally solved the case. If I remember correctly 1 or 2 other young children were abducted around the same time. Like the article said, it was near hysteria in the area. I wasn’t yet a parent, but many of my co workers were & I remember them being so frightened for their own children.

No. Graduates can only wear school issued robes, hats, collars, and cords. They cannot be altered. So we don’t do the hat decorating thing here, either. Same here in Indiana. My daughter just graduated yesterday and shorts, beach shoes, flip flops & tennis shoes are also not allowed.

We’ve been to Universal several times & loved it especially HP. And, I say that as someone who never read the books or saw the movies. I think it’s a place not to be missed. But, like someone else mentioned, you really should do what’s best for you.

Our friends have an Indy 500 party every year so we are going to that on Sunday. Unfortunately, we’re supposed to have thunderstorms, don’t know how that might affect the race. In any case, the party will go on 😃
Monday starts crunch time for dd’s graduation. We have guests coming in Wednesday, graduation in Thursday, oldest ds 20th Birthday is Friday and dd’s grad party is Saturday

We give cash $125. My sister likes to give gifts so she gives the nieces a Tiffany bracelet. So far, the girls have loved them.

I bought a Snickerdoodle one from Trader Joe’s that I thought was pretty good. We ate it with vanilla wafers & apple slices.

I've never watched a hockey game, but so many of my friends & family back in St Louis (my hometown) are big fans and are beyind excited that the Blues made it to the finals. First time on 49 years! So, I'd really like to see the Blues win

Would it be too far out of the way to drop it off at the airport? Many airports have luggage lockers. I’ve also heard sometimes you can leave it at unclaimed luggage & they’ll watch it. Also, where is your venue? They might have storage facilities.

Can I ask what your son does for a living? Did he go to college? I get what you're saying about making it through the day, I know this is going to be a life long struggle for ds. My son is a licensed landscape contractor, and designer. His knowledge of plants, irrigation, design, ecology, and other aspects of the business are practically encyclopedic. He apprenticed under his father from a young age, as well as many courses both physically and online. He didn’t realize he has narcolepsy until his late 20’s. At first it appeared he was becoming somewhat of a flake, to be honest. He was embarrassed, and tried to hide and work around the symptoms. There was a lot of sleeping in the work truck in parking lots while he was supposed to be on the job, then trying desperately to make up the lost time by working like a fiend. The symptoms just kept getting worse. It was a relief when he was diagnosed, at least we all knew what was going on. My other son is also a contractor, and quite successful, and consults often with narcoleptic son, because of his superior knowledge and creativity. He actually feels guilty that because he does not have the disease he is very comfortable financially while his brother struggles so much. My son’s disease symptoms are the best when he does physical work, with a day off in between. Unfortunately this does not pay the bills, and every single time he pushes himself to do more, he ends up a mess. It sounds like so far your son’s symptoms are more manageable, but I’m sure you’re aware the disease can progress, so it may be difficult to predict what he will be able to continue doing. Many people with the disease are successful at working around it, but not all. I have a friend whose dh is a research scientist with severe n with c, but he recently had to go on disability as the symptoms became less manageable. I wish you and your son the very best. Thank you for sharing your story. I really hope my son will be able to manage his disability and find a career that will accommodate him. While I'm glad he got a diagnosis at a young age, it's a lot for him to deal with. In addition to his sleep specialist, he also works with a therapist to help him emotionally.

My DS has narcolepsy. It is a very frustrating condition. Every person has different levels of the symptoms. For DS, the cataplexy is even more debilitating than the excessive daytime sleepiness. Anything routine can result in falling asleep. DS nods off whenever he’s on the computer, unless he’s playing some stimulating game. Getting out and moving physically helps him get through the day, but frankly, while he is a talented and brilliant man, he is not a “success” in life. He barely makes it through each day. Can I ask what your son does for a living? Did he go to college? I get what you're saying about making it through the day, I know this is going to be a life long struggle for ds.

Thank you all for your responses and experiences. Thank you, chendra for sharing your experience with narcolepsy and @kendramage for your advice on the disabilities office. He did take letters from his doctor to all his professors but I'm not sure if he went to the disabilities office. Whatever he ends up doing, it will be his decision. I'm not trying to enable him at all, I just want to give him suggestions. He is actually pretty independent, he graduated a semester early from HS (ironically by taking an online course that was his final required class) and moved in with some friends. He did everything himself as far as college went-he did all the paperwork, FAFSA, loan application, etc. I just gave him advice when he asked. So, I do think he's motivated, but is struggling with managing his disability and that's why I think he should either live at home or at least in the area. I agree that what may be best is working full time for at least the next year and maybe taking a class at our community college, either online or in person. Thanks again for all of your perspectives.

What is your opinion of online universities, or do you have experience with one? I'm wondering if it would be a good fit for my ds. Here's a little background on him. He was diagnosed with narcolepsy his junior year of high school. He seemed to manage it pretty well, but he had us to help him out. He's very smart, but he did struggle his last few semesters and ended up with a 3.0 GPA (down from a high of 3.5). He got a 30 on his ACT, so he should have been capable of doing well in college.
Well, he's just finishing his first year of college (4 hours from here) and he's basically flunking out. His biggest problem was managing his narcolepsy. He is on medication, but his treatment also includes consistent sleep routines, diet & exercise, which is lacking-very common with first year college students. He either missed classes or fell asleep during them. He said he understood the material, but with missing so much classtime, he didn't complete assignments, take tests, etc.
He will be home in a week and I want to help him come up with a game plan for going forward. And I'm just wondering if an online school would be a good fit for him. I think he has the discipline to do the work and he can do it on his own time table when he's most awake.
Does anyone have experience with online schools or have an opinion on them? Do you think there are good job opportunities after you graduate? Also, this is a long shot, but does anyone have experience with narcolepsy-managing college and/or a job?

That is insane! As for the “only 1 victim”, maybe that’s the first time he got caught. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 14 yr old wasn’t his first victim. This really pisses me off.

Even though I love the show & still watch it every night, they each irritate me in some way. But, collectively, I love them. My order would be Phoebe, Chandler, Rachel, Joey, Monica, & Ross. I liked Monica more the first few seasons.

The interwebs never disappoint: There was this crazy woman who used to buy torn bear paper piecings from EBAY. She would drive up the price like crazy. She would pay $200+ for these bears. The peas noticed it was the same woman buying them and a thread got started. As usual the woman showed up on the thread and the pile on began. She threatened to sew everyone and to file harassment charges with the Altoona police. It was classic two peas drama. She claimed she was wealthy and could afford whatever she wanted, posted pictures of her fancy watch and home. It was classic. LINKYI'm pretty sure the torn things.drama had nothing to do with Altoona. Two separate dramas. This is what I remember as well. The original Altoona reference was the coworker/spanked child drama.

I’m hopeful they have a suspect in mind and are trying to flush him out with this “new” information release. Such a sad case, I cannot imagine what the families are going through. This is what I think as well. This is somewhat local to me & I watched the live press conference. I, too, got the feeling that they have someone in mind & are narrowing in on him. The giving the family 2 weeks to process the new information before speaking to news media seemed odd to me. Perhaps the suspect is related to one of the families?

We loved Mean Girls. We loved Hamilton. Come From Away was fantastic! We are seeing Dear Evan Hanson and Waitress when the traveling shows come here next year but i heard they were fantastic in NYC. Before we went we wanted a lesser known show. A pea recommended something like The Play That Goes Wrong and it was so good! We all enjoyed it and laughed throughout. Not a musical by still good. We are subscribers to our local Broadway touring theater- Come From Away & The Play That Went Wrong are both part of the lineup. I’m looking forward to both of them!

We are going to visit my oldest ds at his college and bring home a load of his belongings. His semester ends May 1. So, we’ll celebrate Easter at whatever restaurant we can find that is open. And, I’ll give them all their Easter baskets, yep I still do this even though my kids range in age 15-20 Before we leave on Saturday, my dd has an audition for a summer musical. Crossing my fingers that she’ll get cast.
