There is a very large Irish Traveler (aka gypsy) community across the river in North Augusta and Aiken SC. I live fairly near there. Their homes are these huge, weirdly opulent mini-mansions, but rarely have any landscaping -- as in often not even one shrub. The women dress up much of the time and typically in a more blatantly sexual way. The little girls are allowed to do the same. Lots of jewelry, tons of makeup, fake nails, big hair, and more. I used to live in Augusta, GA as well and I remember that community. I could always pick them out if they came over. I had heard that they didn’t actually live in those mansions, that they actually lived in some trailers behind and down the road from the houses. As far as the tv show, I watched it occasionally, but I really hated how they treated the kids. But those dresses they had made were really something - that’s the only thing I really watched the show for.

My husband & I are both college graduates, he has an advanced degree. My kids are all going to college. However, most of our nieces & nephews have not gone to college. They have gone to trade schools or the military. I’m not really sure of the reason, but they are mostly doing well.

I think it’s fine. I started leaving my kids alone for short periods when they were 10.

My 16 year old has been wearing American Eagle since 5th grade. I’m not sure that he really cares, but they fit well (he’s tall & thin) and they last until he needs to size up.

We live 4.5 hours from family. My mom visits about 4-5 times a year. My dad passed away 5 years ago, but he never visited because he was in poor health. My MIL has visited once in the 5 years we’ve lived here. My brothers & sister live local to my mom & she goes to their homes several times a week.

I think it’s pretty & I like the layout. However, I’m just not a fan of painted cabinets and the blue is really too much for me.

Most of the Grateful8 are truly awful people, especially the Jacks, Nick & Bella. Game play is one thing, like Nicole was doing, making it personal makes them look like asses. I think they are going to be very surprised when they get out of the house & see what people think of them. I wanted to smack that smug look off Jacks face when Ovi tried to talk to him, you could tell he just thought Ovi was so beneath him. I don’t ever remember people being told to go away from the HOH room.

My husband planned a surprise party for me. Totally unexpected, I’m usually one who doesn’t really care about celebrating my birthday. But it was very nice of him to do it & it was a lot of fun.

Last year was our first experience with Family Weekend. My son goes to a smaller state school & they don’t even have a football team. The big event was a volleyball game & then some other on campus activities-campus tours mostly. There were a few community events. None of that appealed to us, plus my younger son had a band competition on Sat. So, what we did was go early on Sunday morning & spent the day with ds. We went to lunch, took him shopping, he gave us a tour of what he wanted us to see on campus. We had a great time, it was very relaxed & we didn’t have to deal with crowds.
My dd will be Freshman at a different school, and beyond the date, I haven’t seen what activities they will have. We may end up doing the same thing with her.

I’d like to think I would have stayed, but I hate confrontation and probably would have moved. Especially if I was with my dd, who seems to be a lot like the OP’s dd.

I refer to my husband’s siblings’ spouses as my in-laws. All the kids on both sides are called our nieces & nephews.

We have one 2 minutes from my house. They opened about a year ago & do a great business. I’m not a big donut person, but my kids love them. Be forewarned-the donuts are huge! And, they will show up at schools & workplaces for every special event, lol. Great customer service, too. Enjoy!

I visit Chicago pretty often, I love visiting there. We love Pizzeria Uno, they claim to be the original. We went to a pizza making class there- it was so fun & we got all their secrets, lol. I’ve made their recipe at home & it's pretty close. As far as boat tours, I recommend the Sea Dog. It’s a high speed boat ride & so much fun! Since you don’t want to do museums, definitely go to Navy Pier & Millennium Park ( we’ve walked from one to the other). For a fun snack, go to the Nutella Cafe near the Park. Since you’re only there 48 hours, I would stay in that general area-there is so much to there.

I tip because housekeeping jobs are back breaking and gross. If you can afford an extra few dollars a day, the housekeeping staff deserve it. JMHO This is where I’m at too. When I’m on vacation, I’m spending money left & right anyway. Giving $5 to the housekeepers, bell hops, someone bringing something to my room, etc it is nothing for me to give to someone working really hard for low wages. In general, I’m not a tip everyone & their brother person, but hotel workers are a big yes for me.

I forgot to pay the orthodontist, they called me yesterday. The office sets up a 2 year payment plan & I would make 2 payments every 6 weeks when ds went in for his appointment. He got his braces off early & I kept forgetting to pay. The good news is I just went ahead & paid off the whole balance!
I’ve never been good with bills, I’ve forgotten others over the years too. Now I either have them on auto pay or I pay them the day I get the bill

I’m not a fan of being told what to bring, especially when it appears to be extra. If they have a registry, I’ll use my budget on that.

I have the XS Max, upgraded from a 6 about 6 months ago. I love it! With my older eyes, I really needed a larger phone. The 6 wasn’t holding a charge very well so I knew it was time for a change.

Souvenir certificate of birth from the hospital Baptismal certificate Bassinet (all my siblings & I as well as all our kids have slept in it. Since I have the youngest child, I’m storing it until our kids have grandkids) First communion dress & veil Girl Scout sash with badges & pins Charm bracelet Grade School yearbooks Scrapbooks (the old fashioned kind) that I made in grade school A few Christmas ornaments from the ones my Mom gave us every year, the oldest is from 1966 For the longest time, I had a birthstone ring that my godmother & aunt gave me in the 5th grade. My own niece & goddaughter was born in the same month as me, so a few years ago, I had a jeweler clean it up & gave it to her.

I’m not an expert, I’ve been to NYC a few times. and am going back the first week of July. I will second Eataly, we really enjoyed eating & shopping there. In the theater district, we liked going to Juniors-might be good for the dessert you mentioned. Cucina & Co at Rockefeller Center was nice-they have both sit down & grab and go. My favorite place though was The Harold in Herald Square, it was a kind of quirky place with good food & drinks.
We loved Central Park, we spent about 3 hours there last Spring & are looking forward to going back. We went to Live with Kelly & Ryan-that was fun, maybe look into that or another show? We’ve done all the other tourist things, too, SOL, Empire State Building, Trinity Church, Brooklyn Bridge, 9/11 Museum & Ground Zero and the UN. Those are the things we enjoy doing, I know some people prefer to do more off the beaten path sorts of things. This time, dd & I are going to see Beetlejuice while ds & DH go to a Yankees/Mets game.

I do separate all my laundry. For me l, it just makes it easier for putting it away and it seems more orderly. I like order . My loads are Socks & underwear Light colors Bright colors Dark colors Bath linens Sheets Kitchen linens Delicate cycle-light & darks separated-these are mostly my T-shirt’s, blouses & sweaters and are hung to dry. If my son has a particularly smelly load, I’ll wash all of his in a separate load with an odor eliminator added in.

Only for large parties, like my daughter’s graduation last week. For smaller parties, I use my dishes, which I have plenty of. We switched to cloth napkins a few years ago & I rarely use paper towels.

We stayed in Marathon, which is about half way between Key Largo & Key West. We then took short trips to Islamorada & Key West. We went to Theater of the Sea and went shopping & to the marina in Islamorada. In Key West, we went to the southernmost point, Hemingway House and Mallory Square ( a must for sunset!) We also just walked around, look out for the chickens! And, we took a chartered sailboat out to snorkel. While in Marathon, we went to the Turtle Hospital (very interesting!), went bike riding & kayaking. We stayed near Sombrero Beach & went there every day for sunrise and to hang out ( rode our bikes down there). While driving on the Overseas Highway, we stopped at the 7 mile bridge (between Marathon & Key West), got some great photos. There’s a great restaurant near the bridge called Kiki’s Sandbar. We loved it, went there twice. We loved the Keys, one of my favorite vacations.

My oldest ds did not want a party so we didn’t have one. We live away from family & only a few came for the ceremony. We just took everyone out for dinner.
