Last week I watched One Day also on Netflix which was very good. There was good chemistry between the main characters. I didn't realize it was based on a book which I haven't read so I don't know how the show holds up. I read the book ages ago and really liked it. I think I'll be watching the show this weekend.

Well I tried the second season of reacher again and ended up enjoying it. I wanted something mindless and it worked.
I also watched Queenpins based on a recommendation on here and enjoyed that too. It was really cute.

I just watched The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar on Netflix. It's an Oscar-nominated short film (40 minutes long) by Wes Anderson based on a Roald Dahl story. It has an amazing cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, and Richard Ayoade and I was completely charmed by it. Thank you, going to watch this tonight.

Has anyone tried True Detectives? Might be on Prime.

Has anyone tried True Detectives? Might be on Prime. We watched the first 3 seasons of True Detective recently and still have season 4 to watch. The first was the best, then the 3rd, then the 2nd. A lot of people didn't like seasons 2 and 3 but we thought they were okay and worth watching.

We finished season one of Chasing Shadows on Prime/Brit Box tonight and are sad that they never did a season 2. Four episodes covering 2 stories.

I have this thread bookmarked and refer to it often for ideas on what to watch. I just want to say that I really appreciate it when posters tell which streaming service they've watched for the show they're recommending. We have Crave, Prime, Netflix, Disney+, BritBox, etc. So many! and one thing I don't want to do is search.

I watched the first three episodes of Everything is Fine on Hulu about a young girl with leukemia and family dynamics. So far enjoyable.

I usually leave that out when I post because I have no idea which streaming service a show I watch in Australia is on in the USA or the UK.

A lot of people didn't like seasons 2 and 3 but we thought they were okay and worth watching. *no spoilers below - safe to read! I gave up after season 1 because I thought McConaughey, was really annoying to watch, his was of talking really grated on my nerves. However having Jodie Foster as the main character was the drawcard to make me watch S4, I thought she was fabulous, and I really enjoyed it. Yes, there were some plot holes but I chose not to think about them too much and just go with the story...and I was sucked in right from the start, it was so creepy in places and it made me jump a few times, I had no idea where it was going...and I was happy with the ending. I really liked that it was such a strong female cast as well. I've read some criticism of the plot - but I don't need my fiction to be 100% realistic...I just want it to be believable enough in the story as I'm watching, so I didn't have any issue with that.

Watching Pretty Woman for the 100th time, don't know why but just good memories. I like those comfort movies. Sometimes watching new ones that are disappointing makes me not watch to watch the new ones and revert to the comfort ones. Is that weird?

Has anyone tried True Detectives? Might be on Prime. I finished Season 4 last week. I loved it! Jodie Foster is brilliant. I am now going to go back and watch the other seasons. I started watching the first episode of season 1 on the plane on Monday, but I couldn't hear the dialog properly over the noise of the plane, so I stopped. I will start it this week. it was so creepy in places and it made me jump a few times.... I don't need my fiction to be 100% realistic...I just want it to be believable enough in the story as I'm watching, so I didn't have any issue with that. It sure was creepy at times. I think I kept waking DSO up, because in the last couple of episodes I was yelling out things like OMG!! WTF!! And yes, I am not the type of person who analyses every little thing in a show, I just need it to be believable. In fact, I didn't even pick up any plot holes in this one.

I've been binging The Wire, which is about 20 years old and still holds up! It's similar to Snowfall but you also get into the lives of the police as well as the gang members. Really good story lines. I just started Season 4.

I started watching The Bear on Hulu this weekend. I am really enjoying and now understand why there are questions about how/why the show was entered into the comedy category for awards. There are of course some characters and scenes that are funny but it feels much more like a drama than a comedy.

I googled it after I finished it late at night to see if others liked it as much as I did - and some reviews were eviscerating it! I didn't expect that, and it mentioned a few things that didn't really make sense, but even though I agreed...it didn't change my overall opinion.

Our recent faves include Beef on Netflix and Fargo's (HULU) final season. Beef was so well acted and each episode has some good twists. Fargo was creepy goodness. John Hamm makes a pretty convincing bad man.

pjaye after you mentioned that you don't need your fiction to be 100% realistic, just to be believable enough, I wondered whether you have watched 'Boy Swallows Universe' yet? I hadn't read the book, so I had no idea what to expect, and didn't know whether I would be able to pick which parts were true and which parts were made up. In the end it was very easy to tell, a lot of it was very unbelievable. I did enjoy it though. Even as a scruffy 80s bogan drug dealer loser, Travis Fimmel is still pretty hot. Too bad his leg ended up washed up on the beach and his head ended up in a jar in a secret underground workshop!

They were watching it on Googlebox last week and they showed a part of it...and they were all loving it, but it didn't look like my sort of thing at all. Male based "coming of age" stories with drugs & violence...is a hard no for me. Same reason I haven't read the book. But Jodie Foster and a mainly female led feminist revenge story...and I'm all in! I think it was you that was a big fan of Happy Valley? I just watched it all recently and really enjoyed it. The bonus was being able to watch the last series without having to wait so long in-between.

It nearly killed me, having to wait five years for season 3! Others had to wait even longer, I was two years late to the party with season 1 and 2.

When DH goes out of town, I usually watch a scary movie because I'm weird like that and he enjoys trying to scare me at crucial points, so it's nice to be able to watch without waiting for his "Gotcha!" moment.
But I strayed from my habit and watched "All of Us Strangers" last night via Hulu. When I tell you I wept, sobbed and feel it will stay with me for a long time, it is not an understatement. I had to watch something mindless to be able to sleep after that. It's worth it though because it was so GOOD.

I loved One Day and Expats and The Bear. Currently viewing Shogun. Just finished Expats last night. It was definitely worth the time and good. The actors were really great. Watched Priscilla on a plane. Bah. Boring and I’m not even sure what the point was. It was ok for a movie while held captive on a plane. Watched The Adults (also on a plane) and feel like my brain is the worse for the wear. I usually like (at least) movies Michael Cera is in. This was a horrific poop show of epically pathetic proportions. I felt like jumping out of the plane during some scenes.

Is anyone watching Shogun on Disney+? It's excellent so far. I very vaguely remember the original 80s version.

Is anyone watching "The New Look" on AppleTV+? It's the story of Christian Dior and Coco Chanel and what they went through during and after the Nazi invasion of Paris. It was slow to start for me but I'm on the 4th episode and it's getting better. I had no idea of their involvement, especially Chanel.
