Is anyone watching "The New Look" on AppleTV+? It's the story of Christian Dior and Coco Chanel and what they went through during and after the Nazi invasion of Paris. It was slow to start for me but I'm on the 4th episode and it's getting better. I had no idea of their involvement, especially Chanel. YES, I'm loving it, but also curious about where this is going. I mean "the new look" was the name of his first show but there are only 10 episodes. Are we going to jump forward in time? will it end with his first show? I'm loving it but also curious. The house of Chanel did release a statement abut Coco's involvement. this article mentions it. Looks like it was after a book came out: After Vaughan's book was published in 2011, the Chanel Group released a statement acknowledging the founder's wartime relationship. It pointedly referred to Dincklage not as a Nazi but as "a German aristocrat." "Clearly it wasn't the best period to have a love story with a German, even if Baron von Dincklage was English by his mother and she (Chanel) knew him before the War," it continued.

I have this thread bookmarked and refer to it often for ideas on what to watch. I just want to say that I really appreciate it when posters tell which streaming service they've watched for the show they're recommending. We have Crave, Prime, Netflix, Disney+, BritBox, etc. So many! and one thing I don't want to do is search. If your channel changer has a microphone you can just ask it to play “the name of the show you want to watch”. Easy peasy!

We watched the first 3 seasons of True Detective recently and still have season 4 to watch. The first was the best, then the 3rd, then the 2nd. A lot of people didn't like seasons 2 and 3 but we thought they were okay and worth watching. *no spoilers below - safe to read! I gave up after season 1 because I thought McConaughey, was really annoying to watch, his was of talking really grated on my nerves. However having Jodie Foster as the main character was the drawcard to make me watch S4, I thought she was fabulous, and I really enjoyed it. Yes, there were some plot holes but I chose not to think about them too much and just go with the story...and I was sucked in right from the start, it was so creepy in places and it made me jump a few times, I had no idea where it was going...and I was happy with the ending. I really liked that it was such a strong female cast as well. I've read some criticism of the plot - but I don't need my fiction to be 100% realistic...I just want it to be believable enough in the story as I'm watching, so I didn't have any issue with that. I’m having a problem watching MMc in Season 1 so we skipped ahead to Season 4 with Jodie Foster. We both like her.

We just finished season 2 of The Tower on Prime/Brit Box. I hear they are filming season 3 but don't know how long we have to wait to get it in the US. It is really good! 4 episodes in each season so it's a quick watch. We never watched Game of Thrones but I hear the main character starred in GOT.

I'm definitely going to watch it - just waiting for a few more episodes to be released so I don't have to wait a week each time in between. I know a bit about Dior's sister during the war and what she went through from books, and also Coco Channel & her Nazi connections, and from what I've read about this series, they go quite easy on Channel, but she was definitely a collaborator and had a long term relationship with a Nazi officer.

Is anyone watching Shogun on Disney+? It's excellent so far. I very vaguely remember the original 80s version. Not yet, but it’s on my to watch

For people who like dance shows, I just finished "Dance Life" which is on Prime in Australia therefore might be the same in other countries. 5 episodes of the Brent Street dance school in Sydney Australia. Follows some students & teachers of the full-time course, mainly modern dance/hip hop. Some of teachers have done the choreography and worked with artists like Taylor Swift & Katie Perry

I just started The Gentlemen on Netflix. I really love Guy Richie films and this is loosely linked to the movie. I'm one episode in and will probably binge the rest this weekend.

We watched Masters of the Air on Apple and really liked it. It was released weekly so no binging.
I’m also watching Rock the Block on hgtv. It’s beach duplexes. I can have it on and not have to focus. I’m also watching the Dave & Jenny Mars Italian farmhouse renovation on hgtv. Don’t have to focus a lot with that on either.

I caught up with my in-laws last night, and MIL & FIL binged it the whole season in one day on the weekend - which is very unusual for them! They loved it.

Apples Never Fall - on Peacock. 7 episodes. Has kind of a White Lotus vibe to it. In fact, one of the main characters from WL is on it, plus Annette Bening too. I really enjoyed it.

We're watching Shogun on Hulu and enjoying it. I have never read the book so I don't know the story. It's a lot of intrigue that can make it a little hard to follow if you're not paying full attention, and you do have to pay attention because half of it or more is in Japanese.
I'm unsure why the Portuguese parts are just done in English but whatever.
The main female lead is absolutely gorgeous!

I appreciate that the Portuguese parts are in English because if I had to watch the subtitles the whole time I probably would tune out.

We're watching Shogun on Hulu and enjoying it. I watched the original Shogun with Richard Chamberlain back in 1980. Between that and The Thorn Birds, he was amazingly swoon worthy. Also as Dr. Kildare.

Also as Dr. Kildare. Those 2 miniseries were a MUST SEE TV situation at my house. My grandma, mom, aunt, and I all gathered in the living room to watch. I think I was only 11 or 12 at the time The Thornbirds aired. Very eye-opening LOL!

I haven't yet decided whether to watch that one or not. I really didn't enjoy the book, I had to force myself to get through it. It was the same with Nine Perfect Strangers - I struggled to finish the book and decided against watching the TV series. I loved Big Little Lies though.

Nine Perfect Strangers made me give up on her books., I didn't even attempt Apples Never Fall, so I might watch the series because I have no preconceptions and because neither Nicole or Reece are in it. Those two just keep buying up her books for their own vanity projects instead of casting the best people for the roles, and the end product suffers as a result.
