I haven't pulled out anything to donate yet but I've written a list of some cupboards/areas I'd like to work through during the month which should help prompt me when I don't know what to tackle next.

I found headphones this morning that have the super small plug in on them - so they don't fit any of our current devices I don't think. August 1 item - check! But it does leave me wondering - what did I buy these headphones for? If they’re not leftover from an old device I’d guess air travel. My SIL was lamenting that she only had wireless or lightning plug in ear buds before our last trip and was going to buy some “old fashioned” ones so she could listen to movies on the plane. NOT that I’m suggesting you keep them, especially given the state of air travel! But that might be a reason you have them.

I need to go back in my closet and purge shoes. I tossed 2 pair and donated 1 yesterday.

I'm already playing this game with the weeds in my garden. I'm not enjoying myself, but the garden is slowly starting to look better. This is brilliant!

I'm pretty sure they went to my original HTC Thunderbolt phone. circa 2006/7 - somewhere in there. I have memories of taking a nightly walk/run and talking to my mother at the same time on my phone through my really high tech headphones that had a microphone in them! I thought I was so fancy!

Today I’m not removing anything. I am putting my shelves up in my craft corner and organizing. If I can get my husband to hang the shelf. I tried myself. Found the stud with the stud finder. Drilled hole. No stud. Moved slightly left. Drill hole. No stud.
He’s not going to be pleased when he sees all the holes. He was over this project to begin with.

I'm in. Need to do another round of decluttering and maybe I'll count some work I'm doing in the garden as well

I might do some digital decluttering as part of this challenge too. I already made some pretty good progress on weeding and re-creating a pathway on the side of my house that had gotten completely overgrown.
I am currently facilitating some Swedish Death Cleaning for a relative, so things are coming into my home to get them out of his home, but I’m working on them leaving my home promptly too, and not annoying the hell out of me while they’re here. So far it’s gone well and we actually cleaned up the basement so much that even with his stuff here it’s much better than it was before.
(His project is a multi-year nightmare, I don’t even want to think about it, he has SO MUCH STUFF, but we just try to focus on what we have, one carload at a time. Hubby agrees that we’ve decluttered less than 5% of his stuff in 6 months, about 6 car loads so far. This month is boxes, baskets, and bowls (oh my!) and maritime themed everything).
So wish me luck in decluttering his stuff as well as my own this coming month.

I think I’m going to play this game backwards. Today I got rid of way more than 30 things in the office at work. I’ve been cleaning out all the crud the old administrator left behind or never tossed. Not a complete list of what went in the trash but there were 10 broken binders, SIX glue guns (if they don’t work then why keep them?!) 5 packets of instant oatmeal that expired in 2017, and a huge box of dated stickers, bookmarks, flyers, etc from “Jump for your heart” which we haven’t done since 2016 And that was only 1/3 of the cabinets.

Last time, I kept a piece of paper with a tally of items I got rid of. That way, if I got rid of six shirts, I’d make six tally marks instead. It all evened out in the end.

there were 10 broken binders, SIX glue guns (if they don’t work then why keep them?!) But what if they magically become unbroken?! maybe if you leave them long enough they will become useful... lol Honestly, in the offices where I last worked it was one of those things where people didn't feel like they had the "authority" to throw out old and stupid things that no one could explain. It was a library, and we had a bag of kitty litter with a book in it - a trick to try to absorb the smells from smokers returning books (you wouldn't believe how bad they could be). But no one had opened the bag in several years and so they hadn't noticed that the book was still in there... and had been marked lost and discarded from the catalog YEARS earlier... face palm.

I think I’m going to play this game backwards. I just focus on getting rid of stuff, not counting that the "right" number of items goes. Congratulations on making such a strong start to the month!

Despite feeling under the weather today I managed to sort through half the drawers on my desk and got rid of some no longer required paperwork, and a set of bed sheets that I just don't like.

That side table I keep hitting my toes into is going for August 1st. It'll get picked up tomorrow. Chinagirl828 Hope you feel better soon! Kudos for sorting through the drawers despite not feeling great.

I hope to play along. I plan to print off a calendar and just mark the corresponding day for the number of items I clear. Jumping around out of order - the same way I approach my scrapbooking!

Day 1: I have a pair of thrifted shorts that fit if I stand just so and don’t bend or sit down ... they don’t fit me! They need to go live with someone who has a short flat butt. They were not cut for my shape. So, bye bye. (I’m following someone on IG who is very good at reminding us that life is too short for clothing that requires contortion to work, that if you like a piece “except for this one thing” you don’t actually love it, and if it’s not a “hell, yes!“ it’s a nope.)

I have a pair of shorts like this. I should find them today and bid them good bye. I have been doing a great job on my closet minimizing but for some reason these shorts keep making the cut. Today you gave me the confidence to get rid of them.

okay - went through and tidied all 5 drawers. Shredded about 2 dozen papers and tossed a couple more. Didn't find anything to donate but it's all neater and more organised now. I'll call that good for day 1

I'm starting with my bathroom drawers. I'm getting rid of a basket that I've had for years that is showing its age.

I already accomplished day 2. Two wooden planters that we left outside for some reason behind some shrubs for a year. They were disintegrating. I trashed them rather than trying to salvage. Have no idea why or how they ended up there.

Since someone suggested including gardening in their list I decided I'm going to work on my garden when the weather co-operates. Today I ripped out a couple of rose bushes that have seen better days and filled my green waste bin with a lot of weeds.

I threw away two work shells that had little pin prick holes in them and I've got an Otterbox case for the iPhone 6 to donate, so I'm good for this weekend.
I started my new job three weeks ago, and have started going through stuff to purge there. I think I've filled up the small blue recycling cans at least 10 times over the last week and a half, and I have a small box filled with stuff to shred. I don't get my old coworker (she just retired effective July 30th) - she started there in 2016, but I don't think she EVER cleaned stuff out - there was a furniture catalog from 2013 in a supply area, and the first aid kit contained medicine that expired in 2009 and 2010! (Those would have predated even HER predecessor!)
Still going to work on more stuff today as I unpack some boxes.

an alphabet sticker sheet I will never use two travel related sticker sheets
All three went into a bag to give to a friend who is starting scrapbooking.

Today I went through the basket of hair clips and ties and got rid of all the clips we don’t wear and the stretched out elastics. I also removed probably 5 pieces of paper from my scrap stash.
I used up an entire package of stars on a layout today. I also used 7 frames. Frames are hard for me. They go into my stash for eternity.

Cleared a Shelf Of Doom in the corner of our hallway where we keep shoes and post and chucked 15 non-working pens, found and moved an old Studio Calico kit from about four years ago and shredded/recycled/filed the piles of phone bills and bank statements I had accumulated. I can actually see where my keys are now!

going though the school supply/craft cabinet - taking inventory, organising, and pulling things to donate.
Day 2: 1 kids craft book 1 stack of construction paper 1 partial pack of straws 1 notebook (wide ruled) 1 ancient tablet
2.5 shelves done, 1.5 to go (waiting for DD13 to come inside as it's mostly stuff she uses - or more accurately, doesn't use)
edited to add - .5 shelf finished - pony beads, pipecleaners, pompoms, popsicle sticks, wooden shapes...and a bunch of foam stamps - all headed to donation
Total so far for August = 12
