I had a rough day yesterday and only got to 7 items but it's a new day and I'll catch up. Only 48 items to go!

I cleaned out an entry closet shelf and purged gloves, plus 2 baskets.
I am ridiculously happy to purge these days.

Finding those items was actually pretty quick and painless. I went through more PS games, clothes, and pictures and found my 48 items. I’m back on track.

18 paper bags that I think at one point I was going to try to use as craft supplies but they've been sitting so long now I have no idea what I intended to use them for 1 stack of chipboard (anything less than 5x7 got recycled) 1 desktop easel

I've well and truly fallen off this month but this morning I cleaned out my bedside table, threw away some dead pens, moved a couple of notebooks to my office where they'll actually get used, threw out some memorabilia that I just don't want to keep any more, and pulled some more books out to donate.

I am amazed that I continue to find things to purge. I've been working on downsizing our belongings for a couple of years now.
Yesterday I added a wristlet style bag to the donate box.

I’ve enlisted my dd. She’s headed back to school tomorrow and came up with a bag of clothing. Yesterday she tackled her bathroom and I found two bags in the garage from her purge. Tomorrow I’m on my own to finish up the month.

Negative balance of 13 + 29 = 42
I continued with the bookcases. Neverending story. I managed to set aside another 58 books. I still have about another 25% of my books to get through... Ahem.
58 - 42 = 16 items to carry over tomorrow, woohoo! My SO will likely attempt some extra decluttering on his own tomorrow.

I tackled a cupboard in the spare room today, threw out a heap of old cuttings from magazines my grandmother had saved, put some of her old knitting patterns into the donate pile, along with a set of bookends. Perhaps the most embarrassing find today was a box of 5.25" floppy disks which have gone into the rubbish bin - clearly a sign I need to declutter more frequently.

I let my SO tackle his stuff today. He got busy: 24 items! I also did a bit of decluttering on my side and managed to remove: - 1 pair of barely worn Charles Jourdan high heels (half a size too small, whyyyy) - 1 pair of worn out Repetto flats - 12 more paperbacks - 1 binder full of random uni notes (no clue why I still had those!) - 1 set of cards - 2 vinyls - 1 blazer jacket - 1 polar fleece sweater - 2 pillow cases - 1 bunch of stationary stickers Total for August 30: 47 + 16 carried over = 63 Total for the month of August: 498 items, woohoo! This concludes my round of 30-day minimalism for this month! I still have some stuff to go through and am almost tempted to play another game in September, just to push and see how far I can go in reverse order. Anyone interested? To my fellow declutterers, a round of applause! Kudos to all of you for participating and being so motivating with your daily lists. Anyone needing to catch up still has tomorrow to officially sign off in August. However far along you got, well done!

I'm tempted, but I still have a few days to finish up - pushing hard today to do it before the weekend ends. For September I'm going to shift my focus and try to stop things from coming IN to the house. I'm doing No Spend September. No "extras" beyond gasoline, groceries, bills, and charitable donations. No eating out (or take out during this pandemic). No stopping inside the conveneince store when I get gasoline to pick up a snack too. No craft purchases because it's "such a great and limited time deal." Just the basics.
August 23:
18 empty jewelry boxes/small boxes 2 coasters 1 pillow 1 bottle of conditioner that I'd had sitting around so long for "when I need it" that it has solidified into a hard mass and various pieces of what can only be considered trash that were sitting around at the bottom of the drawer in my bedside table. Counting as 1 item.

Aug 24:
5 volumes of Great Gifts in Under 30 Minutes. This one makes me sad. This was a mail order service where you got something like a dozen pre-punched cards every month (for a fee of course) and you put them in these binders. I probably spent hundreds of dollars on these ideas. I think I've made 2 or 3 over the years, but when I go to make a handmade gift these days, I just turn right to Pinterest. Sigh...still makes me sad to think of all the money I spent on these pages. 1 scrapbook 6 empty pill bottles 1 bead storage container 3 storage tubes 3 blank mini albums 2 Calendar display albums various pieces of Santa stationary (when we address our Santa letter - some service sends us a return letter so we don't really need this) 2 inner office envelopes that somehow made their way to my house and into my envelopes/stationary collection

I pick September every year because we don't have any family birthdays and the back-to-school expenses are covered. It's kind of tough though because this is the month that it seems all the holiday and fall catalogs come out. But it does make me much more thoughtful and less spontaneous with my purchases. I thought of another thing that is in my allowed expenses - prescriptions. I suppose you could lump that in with groceries in a way.

August 26:
I cleaned out the second pantry closet that ends up being a catch all for overstock stuff (paper goods, ziplock bags, plastic silverware), my kids overstock school supplies (I try to shop from here before buying anything each year), vases, pet supplies that we use frequently, and extra things like the coffee maker I keep around for when my MIL comes to visit. I found several things that needed to go to other homes. And I threw out one crusty pet dish that will never come clean again no matter how much elbow grease I put into it. But mostly I got rid of 3.8 million plastic shopping bags. Okay, 3.8 million might be a bit of an exaggeration. But there were hundreds. I'm counting it as August 26 and moving on. They've been recycled should anyone fear I just tossed them.

September is tough for me because I have three October birthdays (2, 3,29) and we have to mail two of the three but I already have the gift for the 2nd and I think we've mostly finished shopping for the 3rd (DD13) and I'll wait until October to shop for the 29th (DS)

I went through a bunch of scrapbook flowers and rub-ons. And then went though some more paper. I didn’t count individual pieces, but I would imagine it would allow me to check off all of August. Felt good!

I think one of the support guidelines should be everyone sets their own exceptions. Birthday gifts could be one of the exceptions for you. If you'd rather I start a thread, let me know, but I think your profile is more well known than mine. :-)

August 27, 28, and 29
90 clear acrylic easel back frames/cases that we used for a project at work and I had grand plans to handmake calendars each year for Christmas gifts and use the cases as the display. I kept 25 to use for this purpose. The rest I'm getting rid of. Did I really think I was going to make 115 calendars?

I tossed two packs of decade old ribbon and since I was ahead 28 items yesterday I've completed the challenge. I didn't think I'd make it this far. High fives to everyone who participated.

I can’t stop. Today I downloaded the done app and set it for 465 items this month. I’m going to try to do the challenge again but more open ended. Today I’m at 17 items already. My goal is to just count up each day and make progress with the goal of hitting the same items last month.
