I participated in Victoria Marie's virtual crop over weekend and got a few Halloween layouts done. I will have to refresh on how to get them posted over here Easiest way would be to post on Instagram and then you can navigate to the photo in your browser and drop the link right in your post, easy peasy. The board has been filling up so adding an attachment isn't the best plan. But if you use the Tapatalk app adding a photo through that doesn't cause the same problem. Flickr is the other easy option if you have an account - just hit the arrow button and copy the BBcode and paste it in the insert image button to add the photo here.

It makes me sad that many cemeteries here are set up primarily to be easy to mow with flat indented stones in lawns that the mower can drive straight over. Ugh! A lot of places don't like people leaving anything on the graves either. It makes me feel like they're missing the point of the cemetery. American cemeteries always look so incredibly uniform and impersonal. Like Stepford Wives suburbs for the dead. There must be a story behind it beyond the lawn care ease. It's all so removed from the family life these dead people were ripped from and antithetic to the very pro-family American "dream" life model. Likely remnants of puritanism. Puritan cemeteries were filled with grass and used as grazing land, removed from the church/spiritual life centre. I'm a big fan of the very personal cemeteries where tombstones mark the bed where the dead sleep (cemetery is derived from koimētērion, 'dormitory' in Greek) but the one downside is that those buried whose family stop coming and honouring their resting place end up abandoned until, finally, they're removed and replaced with a newly departed. If anything, it's only just another symbol of the cycle of life... Still, while they're being cherished by those left behind, those tombs are a poignant tribute. Pictures drawn by grandchildren engraved in stone, kitsch glazed porcelain wreaths, flowers, angel statues, plaques with poetry quotes, even succulents. It's all very romantic.

Depends on the state, there are ones in NY that are amazing. The one in Rochester, NY is simply astounding, some beautiful statues and some that make you wonder where those people were when God gave out taste and decorum. In most states there are some historical ones that are lovely, but you are correct the modern ones are horrid. That is why my husband has strict orders to mix my ashes with our cats‘ ashes and scatter us together. If he doesn’t follow my wishes you bet your bippy I will haunt his ass.

I woke up to the sound of a demonic voice, a scream, and a bedroom door slamming. My son's friend gave him a motion activated Chuckie doll for his birthday. He put it on the kitchen counter, and moved our indoor security cameras to face the doll. Chuckie was a little too sensitive and went off when my daughter was at the top of the stairs about to go in the kitchen.
Much to my son's dismay, nothing was caught on a camera. I immediately received a strongly worded text message from my daughter about her horrible brother.
I'm kind of torn. It was funny. I may have laughed a little. She hates dolls. I hate clowns. To document or not? That is the question.
Go to 12:28 to see him move
I kind of want to see a battle between Bruce the Shark robot vacuum and Chuckie. May try when my daughter is at work.

American cemeteries always look so incredibly uniform and impersonal. Like Stepford Wives suburbs for the dead. Definitely matters where you live. They do seem to be a suburban thing. All four of my husband's grandparents are buried in one of those. There's one not far from my home that is not centuries old but not impersonal. It does lack that scary touch. I actually find it quite peaceful.

Just let a few days/weeks/years go by before you show her the page... Sounds like your household is definitely not letting the pandemic get in the way of celebrating the Halloween season in style!

I've had a pretty uneventful start to the week. I am just going to document whatever comes along, no matter how small or unsignificant. This mini album is all about capturing the atmosphere and tiny details. We watched some One Tree Hill (the thrilling life of millennials) in bed tonight as I printed photos on my Selphy, cut them and stuck them down to build a few more pages. Crafting in bed is underrated (as long as you don't touch the glitter or sequins ). Added: - One Tree Hill promo pic as my autumn/early winter project is to rewatch all 9 seasons. We're already on season 2. Early 2000s nostalgia galore with the old tech (before we had smartphones, eep!), music and clothing; - screen cap of my new attempt at playing My Time at Portia as the progression calendar got me to the Day of Memories celebration in the game which is their version of Halloween, complete with ghost decorations and ghost lanterns. We scored butternut squash, green cabbage, carrots and minced beef on the cheap at the grocery store today so we're going to have a meal prep session tomorrow. I'll try to remember to snap a couple of photos! Song of the day (for all the Disney fans):

scrapcat My October Daily is just about autumn in general. I have photos of leaves, of my fall mums, pumpkin spice creamer, comfort foods, etc. The 31st will be about Halloweeen.

For those of you who love LLP - I'm glad to see KP is bringing in other designers, but I'm sad that maybe Tina won't focus as much. However! Tina is now on Patreon - I signed up this weekend, so I can get my LLP fix, direct from the source www.patreon.com/lifelovepaper

refugeepea The Percivals potions paper came from a 6x6 American crafts paper pad that I picked up at Marshall's years ago when they where still selling scrapbook supplies. I can't tell you which one cause it was free floating in my Halloween Iris case. It was either Haunted Hollow or Thirty One. And I vote for totally adding the story to your album!! 😁 joblackford & Skellinton thanks for the kind words about my intro pages that where so simple, but took so long it felt like I was giving birth! 😂 scrapcat I was hoping my daughter would also see the cheesiness in Halloween as well!! It is definitely not as scary compared to the scary movies of today!! sleepingbooty I also agree with you about American cemeteries! We actually lucked out where my Dad is buried. It's filled with lots of granite uprights and lots of people like us who like to go and hang out and BBQ with our deceased loved ones and take care of their tombstones. But, we are all mostly Hispanic and it is a big deal to take care of our loved ones resting place and not forget about them. The cemetery even has a very big Dia De Los Muertos celebration every year with a priest, Mariachis, an alter contest, everyone brings food and we are there well into the night! My kids have grown up not being scared of the cemetery, we find it very peaceful. But then again, their Mom does Hospice end of life care as well, so death is just a part of life to our family!😊 So I have taken to asking Alexa to play Halloween music and we have a fun time figuring out what makes the song qualify as "Halloween". It's a fun mix! Could be anything from highway to hell, I want candy, to the cheesy Adams family song! I suggest anyone with an Alexa to give it a try! Last night I was deep in the archives and stumbled upon a very fine vintage Basic Grey Halloween line called Eerie from the year 2009 that I forgot I had! I believe it was the only Halloween line they did?? Sadly it was only paper, no ephemera or stickers, but this morning I am having fun finding stuff from other collections to match it! I'm on day 2, Whoohoo!!!!

Today I got down to business and made a list of the days of October so far (and realized it was already half done - gah!) and added some "events" and movies watched/books I'm reading, then I went through my phone photos and marked out pix I might want to print, and actually printed some of them.
I tend to overthink the picture printing (sizes, editing, etc etc) but the other day I found out about a Canon Print app works that with Pixma printers. So I got that on my phone and now have a slightly more reliable/controllable way to print from my phone. I did it while watching YT videos so I couldn't overthink. And I've decided to use the 5x5" glossy paper we got free with some ink so that removes another decision.
So now I have something of a plan and some photos to work with. Huzzah! A couple of times this week I looked at my album and considered not doing it at all, so this is a pretty big step in the right direction.

Okay peas, this is proving to be a challenge for me. I'm not sure what I'm going to actually accomplish in my ongoing Halloween album. I do have two pages to share that are Halloween themed but going in my son's album. Also a decorated journal card. I got carried away with embellishing 2x2 squares without any plan on what to do with all of them.
I've been thinking about documenting a couple of my more favorite movies, books, or podcasts on actual pages. Hopefully in the next couple of days because Thursday and Friday are Fall break!

Using my extra free time over lunch to print out a few more photos and surf the board. Added: - still of President Macron announcing the curfew measures on French TV last night - picture of a new book I had pre-ordered finally available to read when I turned on my Kindle this morning (yay!) I need to make some design decisions. Font and how to number the pages... Ugh, this is the part I try to ignore as long as possible. The time has come. I just have to start printing some journaling strips and stick it all down. Halp. Song of the day:

Don't make it too difficult and document whatever resonates with your experience of Halloween. Favourites is a great approach. How about taking a selfie with one of the seasonal filters on apps like Snapchat? Photos of the Halloween décor up in the neighbourhood? The seasonal recipes and food you make/buy? Just have some fun with it.

refugeepea your pages look great! I love all the embellished 2x2 squares. Lots of Halloween fun. The squares don't have to be "for" anything either - making them was fun, looking at them is fun, that's enough. I like them mixed in with your movies and books too. I just added ET to my Halloween watchlist. I haven't seen it in forever. We watched Coco last night. I didn't think I would get to see it but they played it on ABC (with limited ads) so yay! We saw it in the theater, which was amazing - I want to print out so many scenes from the land of the dead.

It gets to me every single time. The beauty and details, the colours, the music, the familial love. Pixar and Kleenex must have a secret deal or something... The tears, man, the tears. refugeepea Beautiful work! I love your squares and all the details you included. You did wonderful with the geometric shape play and colour scheme. The background pattern paper ties everything together so well. Your Frankenstein's monster is so, so cute. Had to giggle at the crying Yoda photo... Aww, poor kiddo!

I think it is the finest work Pixar has done. I am already telling my nephew he needs to learn Remember Me so he can play it at my funeral. He played a song at both his Grandfather’s funerals and it was so sweet. He gets disgusted with me, but I will just add him to my to haunt list if he doesn’t comply!

Reminders for those stuck at home and ready for some screen time:
- The Haunting of Bly Manor is already out on Netflix
- La Révolution, a French uchronia/alternate history that takes a bit of a creepy take on the French revolution (blue blood disease/virus so history meets fantasy), will release tomorrow on Netflix - the creator has deliberately made more female heroic protagonists than male and avoided lengthy steamy sex scenes à la GoT (also, Marie-Antoinette was decapitated on Oct. 16!)
- Sweet Autumn, the most solid-looking new Hallmark Fall Harvest movie, will show on the Hallmark Channel at 9PM on Saturday
Happy watching!

Just popped in here for a minute. I am busy working on my 6x8 album All about ME with prompts from Scrap Happy's LOAD. My LSS just sent me a sneak of their kit based on P13's AUTUMN. Gorgeous, and I can't wait to get my hands on it, but that won't be until I am in town next week. refugeepea, your Halloween pages are wonderful and I LOVE all those embellished squares! I can see how you could just keep doing those! And that Chuckie story is just too funny Of course I say this NOT being your dd at the top of the stairs!

It perplexed me that they released it on Thanksgiving. It was a lovely feel good movie about family and very fun to watch with the family after Thanksgiving dinner, but what a huge missed opportunity to really recognize the Dia de los Muertos holiday and the huge number of people who would be seeing themselves and their traditions represented in the film. Really annoyed me actually. Oh well. It held up really well on the small screen, and at least ABC (Disney) played it somewhat seasonally on TV.

....I could do flip this on its head and document a Spring October. Duh

They had to sandwich it in between two major releases at the end of 2017. Disney doesn't make its films compete directly at the box office. Thor: Ragnarok came out in late October. Star Wars: The Last Jedi in mid-December. Coco was the least big of the three, not belonging to a major franchise, so it got stuck in between, alas missing the meaningful Halloween release. The Disney parks, however, used their Halloween season that year to promote the upcoming movie and Coco décor is now part of the usual Halloween décor in most Disney parks.
