The stupidity of Trump’s comments and his inability to talk respectfully to anyone asking questions should worry his supporters. The town hall tonight and the debate will make it crystal clear who is a better speaker and who is suffering from a mental decline. Bob Woodward said something tonight that’s deeply concerning about Trumps inability to separate fact from fiction. He’s told so many lies, he’s lost track of what’s actually real. Not a quality that you want in a President.

Thank you for the response. I didn't realize this was at the AFL CIO event. Nothing was coming up under my search until I added that. Now that I changed my search parameters, I found a lot of links to the first video but not for the second. I don't see any real context for what was happening other than these two short snippets of video. I guess I'm not exactly sure what is going on here. This was a virtual event, right? So we don't know how he was receiving the questions--was there a big video screen in front of him? Or is that what he is looking at that needs to be moved up? Did he have his staff listing numbers and resource materials that related to the questions so that he could give accurate answers? Or were they "fact-checking" the assumptions that the participants made in their questions? That isn't the same as "reading a prepared script" for the answer. It could be charts, graphs, talking points, etc. Why leave it to chance that you incorrectly state a fact in your response when there is the ability to pull up accurate statistics? Good Lord, I wish Trump would fact-check things before he spoke! I haven't seen anything from AFL-CIO about prepared questions from the Biden campaign. Again, I'll be happy to look at those if there are articles, but I didn't see any when I searched earlier. I do know that sometimes you have to get your own questions pre-approved by the event sponsor, so that could be what happened with the woman in the second video. For instance, my DD was at state 4-H camp one year when a Republican legislator was a guest. They opened the floor to questions from the campers (ages 15-21, I believe). To be allowed to ask your question, you had to submit your question to the organizers (the State 4-H Council in this case) and be granted permission to speak during the event. They signed off on the question, and when it was your turn to speak, you read your pre-approved question. I have had the same experience asking questions at a school board campaign event--a sort of town-hall setup. We had to get our questions pre-approved to get on the list of persons who got to ask questions. In both of these situations, it is more about keeping order and not having repetitive questions. It also forces the person asking the question to write the question in a coherent manner that allows a fair answer, i.e. no "gotchas." When an organization is sponsoring an event like this, they do have an interest in not making a scene by having someone come to the podium to attack the candidate or guest speaker or to take the chance to promote an agenda unrelated to the topic at hand. I guess I'll wait until I hear more about this, but I am not going to assume that Biden was fed the questions in advance without more information since there are other plausible explanations. And so far, the only traction I see on this story is twitter, and many of those are quoting him as saying "move the teleprompter up here" when his actual words were "let's move it up here." We don't see the context of anything his staff said before they cut to this video, so was there a conversation about "moving along" with the event, i.e. speeding up the pace? One FOX reporter said the ONLY thing he could be talking about is a teleprompter--that's a big stretch given the brief video evidence. She asked "And I would like to know, what will your administration do to help give them that chance? Thank you." Then he says "Let's move it up here." and then waits for it to be moved up until he can start speaking about what HE would do. Shouldn't he already know that without being fed the words? He didn't think quick on his feet and start going off the cuff while waiting for it to scroll up like he might have years ago. He sounded out of breath and exhausted or exasperated and made it look like he NEEDED some words on display before he could even speak the words of what he intended to do in his own administration. That was a long pause and then again a short pause while he waited for it to scroll more. These words weren't facts he was waiting to be checked, they were the kind of words that come straight from a speech writer. A prepared script, as you said. "You know, there used to be a basic bargain in this country, workers shared in the wealth their work helped create." There's also another clip of him thinking his hand is out of frame and motioning to move it up during a different q & a.

If he was referring to be tested by being on the campaign trail in the latter part of the statement, I think he was referring to an actual cognitive test in the first part of his statement. "I've been tested AND I'm tested all the time." I don't think you would separate the testing otherwise. I'm not sure it's proof, but it sure does look like that's the issue. When he speaks, it's not an issue of stuttering that is the problem, it's that he has lost the words. I've seen him do it a lot. So many times he just can't find the words. IMO you've taken that a different way to what a lot of others would take. I don't think so.

I’m starting to get the feeling a few of them have been *summoned* from some external group, or something. I wonder if Melissa25 is lurking back there too? 😏 That’s exactly why I don’t waste my time responding to these fly-ins who sign on with various names. They post under one new name and agree with themselves under another. I can only speak for myself, but I promise you, I only have the one name and I'm not responding to myself with another. If you need proof, if that's at all possible, I'm sure admin can verify that for you. If she even gives a shit about such a dismissive accusation.

Proof? Other than that one instance that can be interpreted several ways? What other instances? Proof? Watch his appearances, and watch him walk away without answering any questions-it's not hard to find. I'm not going to search thru YouTube for links. If you haven't seen him do that repeatedly then you aren't watching. Guess you didn't see this - see, he sat down and coherently answered every question he was asked, with not a a teleprompter in sight. You can't say that about Trump. Even in a face to face interview one needs to watch his interviews over and over to make any sense of what he said - it's mind boggling trying to follow him and I consider myself fairly intelligent.

I have a question for Trump supporters. Patriotism and pride in the USA seems to be very important to you - the whole MAGA thing. Does it bother you then that Trump is a laughing stock all over the world? Does it concern you that the USA is now regarded with derision and pity? And doesn’t it worry you that your country is seen as untrustworthy and no longer a key part of the international community?

IMO you've taken that a different way to what a lot of others would take. I don't think so. Interesting. And you have never seen video of Trump mumbling or ranting? Have you seen the Lincoln Project ads? They are very entertaining and informative. Anyone can find some video or data to “back up” their point. Biden is far from perfect, and he was not my first choice, but many of us feel that Trump is dangerous to this country. No video will convince us that Trump should get four more years.

I will definitely be voting for Trump. I can’t stand the hypocrisy of the left, the blind eye to the riots and destruction Under the ruse of protesting (which it absolutely is not, it’s sickening) and the fact that the left is exploiting that poor man, Biden, who is obviously mentally incapacitated. I am also disgusted with the bullying of this board to ANYONE who doesn’t fit the lefts criteria or views. But you know, the left on this board totally fits the left’s agenda. If you don’t agree with their views, you are demonized, called disgusting and bullied off. No one is allowed their own views without being lambasted. Exactly what the left wants. Total control over your thinking. Sounds like socialism or worse, communism. OK, so I'm genuinely trying to figure out why, if its not racism and ignorance, people support Trump. Because that's the stereotype, right? You have to be a toothless stupid hick or a white supremacist to support DJT. Like, I may not agree with it, but I very much appreciate Keri's answer a few pages back. Her family is in the oil industry, it sounds like she is supportive of the oil industry, she views Trump as supportive if the oil industry (at least more than Biden). I get that. I'm a teacher. I pay special attention to a candidate's views on education and often support the more pro-education candidate, even if it means a small business owner or other consistuency might not be happy with me (or something- you get my drift). Let's not pretend we're all selfless martyred angels as pure as the driven snow... of course we all sometimes vote for our own interests. The second paragraph just talks about the poster being turned off by the behavior of peas on this board. But I don't think she's saying that she's voting for Trump just to spite US, is she? I hope not. I'm trying to be open-minded here, but there would be no other way to see this other than burning down the house just to "own the libs," right? I'm really hoping that's not a real thing. That leaves us paragraph one. 1. "The hypocracy of the left"- I'm not sure what that means. Is that referring to the next sentence? Or a separate issue? 2. "Blind eye to the riots and the protesting"- I get what you're saying here. You're seeing some very unsavory and out-of-control behavior on the streets, and you feel like Biden? The democrats? are supporting the lawlessness. AT least, they're not advocating for a swift crackdown on it. They're trying to be more delicate and measured in their response, while you're seeing it more as a black-and-white issue? Add in the racial element of what's happening, which always ratchets everyone's emotions up to an eleventeen, and you're angry and uncomfortable. I come and go on the board, so I wasn't really posting at the beginning of the summer when most of the protests were happening, but I am *SURE* there were many threads explaining the left's perspective about things. But I guess my question to you is- Biden did unequivocally come out against violence and lawlessness as part of protesting. June 2, 2020: "But there is no place for violence. No place for looting or destroying property or burning churches, or destroying businesses — many of them built by people of color who for the first time were beginning to realize their dreams and build wealth for their families... We need to distinguish between legitimate peaceful protest — and opportunistic violent destruction." That statement seems pretty clear to me, and that was just one of the first times he spoke out. Why isn't that good enough for you? What more would you like him to say? Is there anything he could say to make you feel better about his response? Can you point to any systemic Democratic party statement that supports the violent part of the BLM protests? 3. "Biden is obviously mentally incapacitated." Joe Biden has been in public life for 47 years and he has NEVER been known as a polished or smooth public speaker. One of my favorite Uncle Joe moments ever is when he was at a rally honoring someone in a wheelchair (I forget who- its been a while) and he told the guy to "Stand up and take a bow!" To a guy in a WHEELCHAIR. He immediately recovered by saying "Oh, geesh, John Smith, of course you can't stand up, god love ya." or something like that and I swear, it makes me laugh every time because it was just such an awful, obvious mistake. That I could see myself making, quite honestly. I just don't see the same dysfunction as you do. I will start to pay attention to the amount of free questions Biden answers going forward, though. I was not aware that was one of the criticisms about him. My sense is that Trump tends to suck all of the metaphorical air out of the metaphorical room, so that Biden is allotted less time in the news cycle, but I will look for that going forward. Again, these seem to be mainly criticisms of the dems, not pluses for the republican ticket. This is such a calm and thoughtful response. I wish all our discussions looked more like this. I really think this would move mountains. Thank you!

For a substantial number of Trump supporters, people living in foreign countries like Italy are as real to them as people living on Mars. They really don’t register them as being equals, with lives and goals, values and motives that have absolutely nothing to do with the USA and our politics here. To many Trumpers, we are the center of the world/universe and everything and everyone exists and acts in relation to us. So, the “why would people in Germany/Italy/England fake this to impact our election?” line of questioning has no impact on them and will not change their minds. I honestly believe that it is beyond many of them to conceptualize billions of people around the world who go about living their daily lives (in addition to the hundreds of thousands who have died of COVID 😢) and never give the United States a thought. As an aside, when I looked up the latest stats, we are closing in on 1 MILLION reported deaths globally due to COVID. I would guess that if China accurately reported their numbers, we would already be there: already. www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

They want only one thing from him: reassurance that he hates “the others” as much as they do.” I think he has a point.

It’s hilarious to watch you try to disparage Biden’s public speaking, given that the republicans counterpart the flaming idiot orange cheeto who is is a disaster at speaking in any scenario. I just listened to Donald Trump meander his off-topic way through a Town Hall meeting. He can't even complete a simple sentence, much less make a coherent statement. It should stop being astonishing to me that Trump supporters say the exact thing that applies to their candidate about the other guy. Yet, I never cease to be amazed.

Could any of the Trump supporters translate the bolded part into plain English please. My comprehension is usually pretty good but this has really got me stumped! At one point Stephanopoulos challenged Trump about why he wasn't more honest with the American people at the beginning of the crisis, and why he seemed to cite statements made by Churchill and FDR during WWII as precedent. "They did reassure people, they were strong. They did keep people calm," said Stephanopoulos. “But they also were straight. They said this war is going to be tough, it’s going to be a real fight, we have to persevere.”
This was Trump's response.........“When Churchill was on the top of a building, and he said everything’s going to be good, everything’s going to be – be calm. And you have the Nazis dropping bombs all over London, he was very brave because he was at the top of a building. It was very well known that he was standing on buildings, and they were bombing. And he says everyone's going to be safe. I don't think that's being necessarily honest, and yet I think it's being a great leader. But he said, you're going to be safe. Be calm, don't panic. And you had bombers dropping bombs all over London. So I guess you could say that's not so honest, but it's still a great leader.”

That town hall was unbelievable and so bizarre. He should do more of them. One would hope that him doing more of them would show more and more people what a dumbfuck he is. It’s “free” advertising for anyone running against the administration. I believe that he’s trying to do more of these types of things because he/his campaign is: 1) either out of money, or 2) he knows he’s toast and is trying to find ways for his personal businesses to drain the campaign and RNC accounts.

He's likening himself to Churchill or trying to - that's enough to not give it the time of day
