Unbelievable though isn't it, that a grown man and a leader of a country such as the US would talk such gibberish nonsense. Indeed, over and over As it was before our time wouldn't you like to know which building/s Churchill was standing on while the Luftwaffe were flying over his head during the blitz?

I hope y'all get some help for your anger. It must be exhausting. I'm just gonna skip ahead the last four pages I haven't read yet to address your post. You are so fucking right. I AM angry and I AM exhausted. Angry and exhausted about three plus years of non-stop lies and mind-fuckery by The Thing. Never ending cruelty toward other human beings already laid out on this thread. Children being ripped from their asylum-seeking parents' arms, fostered and adopted out as if they were puppies. Children essentially "lost"; moved places without accurate record-keeping about their location. Judges ordered stays on this behavior...and it continued. And don't.even.start. with your Fox talking points about Obama building the cages. They were used as temporary housing for a different demographic (mostly young men). The thing is, any normal person WOULD rightly be angry and exhausted at the sheer magnitude of this administration's inhumanity in many different spheres. What is suspect is why aren't YOU? What the fuck is wrong with you that you can just blithely disregard mistreatment of other human beings. Of children? Luckily, we CAN get help for our anger and despair and anxiety that our country has been taken to the edge of autocracy. There's no therapy that exists to change the hearts and minds of those without humanity.

Indeed, over and over As it was before our time wouldn't you like to know which building/s Churchill was standing on while the Luftwaffe were flying over his head during the blitz? Well, it also begs many other questions. Trump makes it sound like Churchill was addressing the nation from those building tops in the midst of the blitz. How was that accomplished in pre-cellphone/internet days? Who set up and manned broadcasting equipment during active bombing? And when people were in bomb shelters and observing lights out, who heard/watched this broadcast in the midst of the bombing? Clearly one of his aides and/or speechwriters read Erik Larson’s recent book on Churchill; and when they tried to brief Trump on it and/or wrote a synopsis of the book, it was beyond his understanding and he confused and confabulated facts. All one has to do is read this article to see how Trump took actual events and facts as a starting point and then built a fantasy from them that is supposed to justify why he knowingly lied to the American public about the COVID virus: www.smithsonianmag.com/history/how-winston-churchill-endured-blitzand-taught-people-england-do-same-180974229/The transparency of his stupidity is staggering. And yet Biden is the one with supposed cognitive deficits.

Trump says that he has brought more respect from the rest of the world, so they believe it. Never mind what people from the rest of the world says. That is fake news in their minds. Remember his speech at the UN. I don;t even remember what he said. The audience laughed. He said that he didn't expect that with a sh!t grin on his face! Walter Shaub... ”Last night’s performance doesn’t matter. Trump’s voters don’t care that he’s stupid. They want only one thing from him: reassurance that he hates “the others” as much as they do.” I think he has a point. "The others" = non white.

This is such a calm and thoughtful response. I wish all our discussions looked more like this. I really think this would move mountains. Thank you! Awww shucks... thank you! I am a little disappointed that none of our right-leaning peas responded, though. I am truly interested in the answers and am trying to learn.

Thank you for the response. I didn't realize this was at the AFL CIO event. Nothing was coming up under my search until I added that. Now that I changed my search parameters, I found a lot of links to the first video but not for the second. I don't see any real context for what was happening other than these two short snippets of video. I guess I'm not exactly sure what is going on here. This was a virtual event, right? So we don't know how he was receiving the questions--was there a big video screen in front of him? Or is that what he is looking at that needs to be moved up? Did he have his staff listing numbers and resource materials that related to the questions so that he could give accurate answers? Or were they "fact-checking" the assumptions that the participants made in their questions? That isn't the same as "reading a prepared script" for the answer. It could be charts, graphs, talking points, etc. Why leave it to chance that you incorrectly state a fact in your response when there is the ability to pull up accurate statistics? Good Lord, I wish Trump would fact-check things before he spoke! I haven't seen anything from AFL-CIO about prepared questions from the Biden campaign. Again, I'll be happy to look at those if there are articles, but I didn't see any when I searched earlier. I do know that sometimes you have to get your own questions pre-approved by the event sponsor, so that could be what happened with the woman in the second video. For instance, my DD was at state 4-H camp one year when a Republican legislator was a guest. They opened the floor to questions from the campers (ages 15-21, I believe). To be allowed to ask your question, you had to submit your question to the organizers (the State 4-H Council in this case) and be granted permission to speak during the event. They signed off on the question, and when it was your turn to speak, you read your pre-approved question. I have had the same experience asking questions at a school board campaign event--a sort of town-hall setup. We had to get our questions pre-approved to get on the list of persons who got to ask questions. In both of these situations, it is more about keeping order and not having repetitive questions. It also forces the person asking the question to write the question in a coherent manner that allows a fair answer, i.e. no "gotchas." When an organization is sponsoring an event like this, they do have an interest in not making a scene by having someone come to the podium to attack the candidate or guest speaker or to take the chance to promote an agenda unrelated to the topic at hand. I guess I'll wait until I hear more about this, but I am not going to assume that Biden was fed the questions in advance without more information since there are other plausible explanations. And so far, the only traction I see on this story is twitter, and many of those are quoting him as saying "move the teleprompter up here" when his actual words were "let's move it up here." We don't see the context of anything his staff said before they cut to this video, so was there a conversation about "moving along" with the event, i.e. speeding up the pace? One FOX reporter said the ONLY thing he could be talking about is a teleprompter--that's a big stretch given the brief video evidence. She asked "And I would like to know, what will your administration do to help give them that chance? Thank you." Then he says "Let's move it up here." and then waits for it to be moved up until he can start speaking about what HE would do. Shouldn't he already know that without being fed the words? He didn't think quick on his feet and start going off the cuff while waiting for it to scroll up like he might have years ago. He sounded out of breath and exhausted or exasperated and made it look like he NEEDED some words on display before he could even speak the words of what he intended to do in his own administration. That was a long pause and then again a short pause while he waited for it to scroll more. These words weren't facts he was waiting to be checked, they were the kind of words that come straight from a speech writer. A prepared script, as you said. "You know, there used to be a basic bargain in this country, workers shared in the wealth their work helped create." There's also another clip of him thinking his hand is out of frame and motioning to move it up during a different q & a. Link to the other clip? And again, the "let's move it up" is out of context. You have no idea what conversation was going on with his staff while the video question was being broadcast. Were there technical difficulties with the equipment? If the microphone was not picking up his statements very well (maybe because of the mask?), they may have been trying to solve that problem and he suggested where to move the mic. Have you seen any other video of the event? Were there delays between those questions and answers as well? This was a remote event, and there are often delays between a question and answer in those situations. If news conglomerates like FOX and CNN have that issue, what makes you think a campaign is going to have the technology to avoid those delays. I am highly suspicious of these little clips that purport to show Biden in a bad light when the full clip tells a completely different story. We have already seen the trump campaign/surrogates manipulate video to make it appear Biden says one thing when he actually said the opposite. We have seen the video of him getting off a plan and waiving to first responders in the background that are out of view and a voiceover laughing at how he is "waving to an empty field." So until there is a more complete view of these videos, I will give Biden the benefit of the doubt.

"You know, there used to be a basic bargain in this country, workers shared in the wealth their work helped create." There's also another clip of him thinking his hand is out of frame and motioning to move it up during a different q & a. Another explanation that you might want to consider if you had taken the time to type out her full question Rebecca Vedrine: (11:18)
My name is Rebecca Vedrine and this is my question. As a black woman in America who’s worked with union jobs and nonunion jobs, I know that there’s 60 million Americans saying that they would vote for a union today. I would like to know what will your administration do to help them give them that chance? Thank you.
He in turn considers that the answer needs to be far more in depth that what she has asked - hence - lets move this question up (a step or two and explain what has happened in the past and what is happening now). You can't answer a question of what his administration would do to change things without giving the reasons of why there would need to be a change and what has led to want that change. Joe Biden: (11:40)
Moving up here. There used to be a basic bargain in this country. Worker shared in the wealth their work help create. It didn’t go well. They shared in the losses as well, but that bargain’s broken. CEOs are more beholding to shareholders and workers. Instead of boosting wages, they’re increasing stock buy backs and their own pay. 30 years ago, the average CEO fortune 500 companies made 58 times the average worker’s salary. Today, 30 years later, it’s 278 times. What in God’s name happened in the meantime? This pandemic has reminded the nation, we literally couldn’t survive without the health care workers, the first responders, the grocery clerks, the meat packers, the sanitation and transit and postal workers who put their lives on the line for this country and many of them lost their lives. People all across our country have a new appreciation for just how essential you are. They have a new appreciation for how essential unions are as well.
Joe Biden: (12:52)
Unions are why so many today have health insurance and sick leave. Why so many have a voice in the workplace and our democracy. Unions are why the Cares Act included worker protection and why the Heroes Act, which the Senate hadn’t acted on yet, would require OSHA to boost safety standards. Unions shouldn’t have to go it alone. American workers deserve a partner in the White House, a president who’s on their side. Now Trump talks a big game, but let’s look at the facts. He threatened to veto the PRO Act, continuing to make it harder to organize on the job. He led federal contractors double. He talks about what he’s done now, right, in trade. He led federal contractors double offshoring, offshoring jobs in his first 18 months in office. He gave big tax cuts to corporations without making them bring jobs home.
Joe Biden: (13:47)
He raised taxes for union members by ending deductions for union dues. List goes on and on. American workers are the very best in the world. We can outcompete anyone. Anyone, period. You deserve a president who fights like the devil for you the way you do for us. That’s what I’ve been trying to do my whole life. As president, I’ll fight to pass the PRO Act and crack down on employers would try to block unions and go further by holding executives accountable for labor law violations, including jail time if they’re prominently involved in breaking the law. Pass the Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act to guarantee every sector of worker has the right to bargain. Strengthen and enforce labor standards, including Davis Bacon wages, plus a $15 minimum wage, overtime pay through OSHA, tougher OSHA. By the way, you’re the only guys fighting for people who aren’t even members of the labor union.
Joe Biden: (14:49)
You’re fighting for workers that aren’t even your members by a $15 minimum wage. Ban right to work laws and stop employers from misclassifying workers as contractors to avoid paying benefits. Give independent contractors and gig workers the right to organize and pass the Bush Lewis Act to protect every worker’s pension and make sure that sacred promise of a secure retirement is honored for everyone. So you don’t wake up one day like my dad did years and years ago, all of a sudden no pension. There’s a lot we can do, but I promise you we can get it done.
Here's the full video to get everything in context - it helps!
