It does no one in Texas any good to bury their heads in the sand about the inevitable decline of the oil industry. Propping up industries that won’t continue to serve us well in the future - like coal, for example - is foolish. Democrats want to invest heavily in alternative energy and incentivize energy companies in making that change so they can continue to be profitable on their own. Republicans want to prop up a dying industry and subsidize it with our tax dollars. Which one of those sounds more like socialism? Exactly! I was trying to find the words to say just this...this administration is all for bailing out all the big corporations and could care less about our environment and the small business owners. All because these oil & gas corporations feed the belly of the beast with lobbyists and massive donations.

Why yes, yes you are. You cannot support the current Republican Party and not be these things. In addition you are a selfish POS who doesn’t give a shit about the planet or care if there is anything left for future generations. What a great mother and grandmother. If you change your second sentence to say “you cannot support the current President and not be these things.” Then I would 100 agree with you. The myopic view of voting to support the oil industry while the west coast is burning to the ground makes me sick. I am out of a job right now due to the pandemic, I know a lot of people out of jobs due to the pandemic, and you know what when my unemployment becomes unsustainable for my family I will find a different job in a different industry, because sometimes you have to do that for the greater or personal good. I can’t imagine fighting to have my pre-K open at the risk of others because I need to work. I can’t get believe anyone would think supporting Trump is the thing to do because their family works in the oil industry and I foolishly believe a vote for Trump would protect their jobs. First off, Trump can’t save the oil industry, second of all he shouldn’t be trying. As others have stated alternatives need to be the focus now. While I don’t want to use a broad brush, unfortunately the Republican Party has been hijacked by the trump sycophants so the broad brush it is.

You all can't help yourselves, can you. Not one *Trumpster* made a comment on the thread about losing a friend and you have 57 other threads bashing Trump but you just can't stand that there is one positive thread here for the people who think different than you. Lol You snowflakes and your demands for safe spaces crack me up! You say the left is "triggered" because we demand that the right not be a bunch of bigoted, Covid denying jerks, but then y'all whine about not receiving fairness and kindness from the left. You somehow think we are unkind because we refuse to be silent about your support for bigotry and the general destruction of our American ideals.

I don’t buy that you were a “very strong” Democrat. Who talks like that? Someone pretending to be a former democrat, that’s who. if you want us to believe that you were a very strong democrat, tell us who you really are. Until then, you’re just a troll. Two Observations: 1. Speaking of “recent events,” methinks this thread is a case study in setting up a pretend dialogue among alters. I could be wrong; regardless, it’s absolutely fascinating to watch the thread progress in that context. I’ve run out of the popcorns. [Because otherwise, yes, you’re right: there would be no reason to change Pea name or to not even reference a former name simply because of a change in preferred presidential candidate - let alone abandon a strong belief in the Democratic platform in favor of this (famously inarticulate and recent-news-failing) president - so it’s just a garden variety troll and I’m barking up a wrong-yet-familiar tree.] 2. (And this is directed at Page One): DEMOCRATIC. Democratic Party. Democratic candidates. Vote Democratic. Not Democrat. Not Publican. Unless we’re now the “United States of” and our sitting president is “Donald Rump.” Off to search for more crunchy snacks. I noticed an uptick in the use of the word "Democrat" instead of "Democratic" over the last few months. Apparently, this is another way the right attempts to denigrate the left.

"My family's need to cling to the oil industry (in spite of even the oil majors knowing the beginning of the demise of oil is upon us) is more important than the world burning and people being ruled by dictators and autocrats". Got it. edited to clarify posters comment according to keriwest: "i got my personal interest covered, so to hell with everything else" Don't worry about the national debt, the number of people who died from Covid, babies in cages, rampant white supremacy, shootings in schools, bounties on military members, side deals with dictators, violations of the emolument clause, taking away health insurance, cutting all support programs, the list is endless. As long as your own bubble is protected. Every trumper that I have ever talked to feels this way. That is the crux of the issue. Most industries have a life span. The buggy whip is an old example. The buggy whip workers lost their jobs when cars were invented. Smart people understand this and know how to re-educate and learn new skills. The oil industry will always be around in some form but we are moving toward solar, wind etc. and those should replace most of the need for oil. Time is now to start learning to transition to making a living in other forms of energy. But noooo, it's easier to vote for a mad man and stick with a industry that is destroying our planet. But not thinking things through or not smart enough to re-educate yourself becomes a huge problem when that is causing one to vote for an evil psycho. The real joke is he doesn't give a shit about any particular industry, only what will line his pockets and screw the lowly workers who he despises.

I understand you’re probably feeling defensive, especially with one particular comment made to you (that I don’t agree with) but broad-stroked accusations like this, are no better.

I'm supporting Trump and can't even imagine aligning myself with the democrat party. I'm also not interested in debates as we all know, at least on this board, who we're voting for. There are so many reasons I'll be casting my republican vote, but one is that we are in the oil business and this industry doesn't need a government that intends to shut it down. Enough said. And I'm not a white supremacist, or a racist, or a vile human being. I'm a hard-working wife, mother, and grandmother...probably like a lot of you...who just happens to think differently than you do. I do feel that, as often as you are rolling your eyes at us, we're rolling ours at you too. Just a difference in opinion. Thank you for answering the question directly.

I noticed this first from Trump around the time of the conventions. An obvious attempt to separate the correct name of the party from the meaning of the word "democratic." Probably a campaign stunt. A person is a Democrat; the party is the Democratic Party. Simple English.

This quote from Skellinton bears repeating and I hope keriwest will take it to heart: “ The myopic view of voting to support the oil industry while the west coast is burning to the ground makes me sick.” I mean REALLY. Do you care THAT LITTLE about your fellow Americans, wildlife, and the environment as a whole? While you’re off being a “great mom and grandma,” you’re leaving behind a dangerous world for their descendants to live in.

Not too much of that going around in your sphere.

I’m like so you are going to die in a mine shaft collapse or from black lung for what? Because it’s uncomfortable to learn something new? He actually quit his job and moved back to WV or KY because trump was going to get the coal industry back up and running. Why, why would you purposefully take 3 giant steps backwards? It’s even a similar vein in my town. They were lamenting about garbage pick up and the cost. My house has more people but is smaller than my parents house. They paid more for garbage pick up than I did. So we suggested paying for your garbage bags at the town garage so you only pay for what you use. Nope couldn’t do it because they discussed it 20 years ago and it didn’t fly. I’m like the town is different than 20 years ago!! I get it, change is hard. My husband had to reinvent himself after the economy collapsed when Reagan was president and he lost his job in the car industry. We spent my entire paycheck on books so he could learn about computers after getting out of the military. He had to change the way he works now with the uptick in professional hackers. People have to be flexible with change and supply and demand or they will get left behind.

Trump humiliates this country daily.

Thank you for the response. I didn't realize this was at the AFL CIO event. Nothing was coming up under my search until I added that. Now that I changed my search parameters, I found a lot of links to the first video but not for the second. I don't see any real context for what was happening other than these two short snippets of video. I guess I'm not exactly sure what is going on here. This was a virtual event, right? So we don't know how he was receiving the questions--was there a big video screen in front of him? Or is that what he is looking at that needs to be moved up? Did he have his staff listing numbers and resource materials that related to the questions so that he could give accurate answers? Or were they "fact-checking" the assumptions that the participants made in their questions? That isn't the same as "reading a prepared script" for the answer. It could be charts, graphs, talking points, etc. Why leave it to chance that you incorrectly state a fact in your response when there is the ability to pull up accurate statistics? Good Lord, I wish Trump would fact-check things before he spoke! I haven't seen anything from AFL-CIO about prepared questions from the Biden campaign. Again, I'll be happy to look at those if there are articles, but I didn't see any when I searched earlier. I do know that sometimes you have to get your own questions pre-approved by the event sponsor, so that could be what happened with the woman in the second video. For instance, my DD was at state 4-H camp one year when a Republican legislator was a guest. They opened the floor to questions from the campers (ages 15-21, I believe). To be allowed to ask your question, you had to submit your question to the organizers (the State 4-H Council in this case) and be granted permission to speak during the event. They signed off on the question, and when it was your turn to speak, you read your pre-approved question. I have had the same experience asking questions at a school board campaign event--a sort of town-hall setup. We had to get our questions pre-approved to get on the list of persons who got to ask questions. In both of these situations, it is more about keeping order and not having repetitive questions. It also forces the person asking the question to write the question in a coherent manner that allows a fair answer, i.e. no "gotchas." When an organization is sponsoring an event like this, they do have an interest in not making a scene by having someone come to the podium to attack the candidate or guest speaker or to take the chance to promote an agenda unrelated to the topic at hand. I guess I'll wait until I hear more about this, but I am not going to assume that Biden was fed the questions in advance without more information since there are other plausible explanations. And so far, the only traction I see on this story is twitter, and many of those are quoting him as saying "move the teleprompter up here" when his actual words were "let's move it up here." We don't see the context of anything his staff said before they cut to this video, so was there a conversation about "moving along" with the event, i.e. speeding up the pace? One FOX reporter said the ONLY thing he could be talking about is a teleprompter--that's a big stretch given the brief video evidence.

Honestly, Texas - the world’s tenth largest economy - will go under if people continue to hang their hats on oil and gas. It needs to be a phased out approach and companies need to be proactive in repositioning themselves and training their employees for different kinds of jobs, but no one should be counting on petroleum jobs lasting into the next generation. No matter what party you vote for. Funny thing is, many Republicans here in Texas actually see that. I’ve honestly not heard people using that as a reason to vote for Trump.

Actually MichyM, I responded to a Pro Trump thread after all these years because I wanted to, only to be called a POS and to be told that because I support the oil industry I couldn't possibly care about my fellow Americans. The thread didn't ask you to get involved...clearly you're not Pro Trump.
The accusations thrown at me (and other Trump supporters) are vile and hateful and as ridiculous as my statement above about "you" "burning down buildings, screaming in the faces of people you don't even know, killing cops...".
But y'all go on with badgering anyone who thinks differently than you. Maybe you do scream in the faces of people you don't even know because they won't throw up their hitler hand in solidarity with you... I mean we're pretty damn sure it's not republicans pulling that crap.

Why on earth would anyone question your wellness? I mean, it's not like you target certain peas for harrassment or like you'd reveal anyone's personal information, right? I think Keri west's attitude is repugnant. I don't think that makes her a POS or a poor parent/grandparent anymore than your repugnant attitude makes you a bad person. I think you're rude and unpleasant, but that doesn't mean I think you're a POS or a bad person 🤷♀️ I just don't like you and it bothers you that I don't run when you call me racist. No one called you racist. I just reminded you of how hypocritical your behavior is if I’m a mentally ill bitter Black woman who needs therapy keriwest is a POS grandmother. You were out of line if you think pinklady should have continued to talk double ovens instead of insulting her. That’s all. I’m sure you see it. 😜 😘

"Hitler hands?" 😂😂 What in the actual fuck. I'm pretty sure it was those "very fine people" your president courts that were throwing up "Hitler hands". You know, the people outfitted in SS regalia and chanting actual Nazi slogans that seem to show up at every Trump rally? And the people on the other side of the fascists, the anti-fascists, if you will, were the ones opposing them. I do not think you are a POS, but I don't think you have a great deal of empathy or concern for anyone who isn't part of your family or who doesn't look like you.

And you're wrong inkedup to continue to make assumptions about me or anyone else who doesn't believe the same way as you. Just because you think you're right does not make it so.

Trump was not able to help the coal industry after he said he would, are you worried about the same in the oil industry?
