Why, why, why did you feel the need to bring this to the NSBR board? Weren’t you getting enough attention on the other one?Your principles and code of ethics is ringing hollow. What other one? As far as attention goes, this is my sole call-out thread in 18 frigging years. Yes, I'm SUCH a drama queen! My principles and code of ethics are highly intact, thanks.

If you don’t like the rules, don’t participate. Period, end of discussion. The rules NEVER stated you had to give your real name and not just your peaname. If that was said up front a couple of months ago, then peano would not have started her cards etc. I think that is the issue. Exactly. It’s never been in the rules that you had to use your name. Ever. I’ve participated in the past and many did not use real names.

I guess what I’m not understanding is, isn’t it just a given that if you sign up for a card swap where you are mailing physical cards, everyone has to give their name and address for said cards to be sent to??!

Also, I don’t remember—-who exactly received hateful mail at the last card swap? Those names were never "revealed". So who said it was hateful? What was hateful about it?

Many in the past used PO boxes. Here's the issue---it was never in the rules that you HAD to use your real full name. It was also suggested on the pinned thread to @leowife that what if peano gave her real name to her and the list that goes out just has her pea name. That was never answered. It sounded like a good solution.

I used my real name. I deeply, deeply regret it. Never again. Never. You can remove yourself from the list before it gets sent out, can’t you?

peano, I’m sorry. I too am disappointed about this year’s swap (after taking the past 2 years off), and decided not to participate of my own accord because of the tone the organizer has taken. I also spent a bunch of $$$ as I made the plans and purchased supplies over the past few months. I’ve decided to go ahead and make the cards I planned to, and will contact the two assisted living facilities in my neighborhood to send them to residents or provide blank cards for their residents to send. I also deliver meals to senior shut-ins, so I’ll include them in my deliveries I hope you can find a similar situation so that you don’t miss out on the joy of card-making this year.

It makes sense to be able to use your pea name—it’s how everyone knows one another!

Valid suggestions were presented and ignored I’m passing on it this year as I just think it’s turning into something ugly.

So who said it was hateful? What was hateful about it? @leowife did the rest of us are clueless Interesting.... And knowing what she’s classified as “hateful” on threads here, I wonder.... I find it so very hard to believe that anyone would participate in a Christmas card swap and send “hateful” cards.

I find it so very hard to believe that anyone would participate in a Christmas card swap and send “hateful” cards. There was also a group--apparently--who kept track of who they got cards from etc. They then complained that some people signed up JUST to get cards and they never sent any. Pettiness I tell ya....

Also, I don’t remember—-who exactly received hateful mail at the last card swap? Those names were never "revealed". Yeah despite the full on forensic investigation that was supposedly going to take place. Lol. I've never participated because I generally don't share my personal info here. I'm sure it's really lovely for those who do. Then the drama around the last one was just confirmation for me not to get involved--and the hostess is a twat who claims to have me on ignore so I'm assuming I would not be included anyway. Not so warm indeed.

I've done the swap a couple of years here and a couple of years before that on another message board. Yes, there are other places like this out there. I decided to stop participating due to the time involved.
I can't imagine signing up for a card swap where people are going to mail you a physical card through USPS and NOT expecting to provide your name and address.
I also can't imagine participating on any online forum whether it is here, Facebook or any other type of social media and truly expecting people to not know who you are and figure out at least approximately where you live if not exactly. It's why I don't bother hiding my identity behind a fake user name. I'm not going to tell people "Hey, I'm on vacation at the beach this week. In other words, my house is empty" but I'm not going to try to be that clandestine either. It just won't work.

I have no dog in this fight at all but why would it be unfair for some to just want pretty cards sent to their Pea name and not their personal name? It's just exchanging cards and seeing others' handiwork. This! It’s really no different than the teacher gifting thread. Most of all those gifts were sent anonymously and with no issue. It feels different this year because of the control and comments that have been made. Also, I don’t remember—-who exactly received hateful mail at the last card swap? Amazon protected our addresses. I would never have done it had my address been given out (BTW,,,three of yhe books have been read and a fourth borrowed. Considering my students read very slowly, that is AWESOME!)

I have no dog in this fight either.
I get the concept of shared personal info risk. But I don’t understand why a real name has to be used. I would’ve thought someone who had a past issue with receiving a nasty letter themselves, would be understanding why some are reluctant to share much. 🤷🏼♀️

If you're looking for a place to send the cards you've started Bring Smiles to Seniors is a good organization. There are others too - there is a pinned post on the stamping/cardmaking board for card donations. Just an FYI to anyone who might be taking this route, the Caring Hearts Card Drive is not happening this year.

As i said upthread... i get mail delivered to random people at my po box... they are not random to me but the postal worker doesnt know that... they are not on my "list" of people who recieved mail here... because i got the po box before i even knew them... but my husband and daughter in law get mail at my po box n ive never been questioned about it... I have had stuff delivered a long while back to an old message board name when we used to fo those atg pass a long things.. screenname... not my real name..

I just looked at the emails with the lists for the last two years and every name listed had a pea name and a first and last name. Are you saying “many “ of those names are false? Well if that’s the case then where’s the problem? @peano just use a fake name and none will be the wiser since apparently “many” have done it in the past.

Mail gets sorted and delivered based on address only. I’ve lived in my house for thirty years and to this day I still get junk mail with the previous homeowner’s name!

Well, you could have made up a name to use, and nobody would have known the difference. And then there would have been no need for you to start this call out thread. I thought this same thing yesterday when I saw her post. I actually considered peamailing her and telling her to make up a name.

The post office goes by address not name. They HAVE to deliver the mail to the address printed. I get mail addressed to my dog at my home. I’ve sent mail (swaps) to others on a message board addressed to their online ID.
