Wow I hadn’t looked at her in a long time but was just checking out her page yesterday, very sad for her family.

I only remember the douchey version of Collin before he turned into mr internet os bad for everyone but me. I’m sorry for their loss. Not sorry enough to donate money. Her stories indicate that she needs to put the fucking phone down. Assign a close family member to field calls and texts for her. Surely to god her ward has come in to help.

I'm very sorry to read this. A loss is a loss, no matter whose loss it is.

I feel very badly for her and their kids. But how does a couple with four young children decide that life insurance is not necessary. A Go Fund Me has already been started. I just posted the same thing. I’ve followed her for years and they take a lot of vacations and dress really nice. I’m surprised that they didn’t have any. A lot of people would rather buy nicer things or drive fancier cars vs buying something boring like insurance. I’m glad I’m not that person.

They were on holiday when it happened so I'm guessing the local LDS ward must have jumped in? Not sure if she's feeling them right now with the "there's no god" she wrote on IG. Shit, to have a perfectly curated home and wardrobe, to go on holiday, have 4 kids, have one of the two parents return to school for their Master's but then not have a life insurance. That's a lot of missing money all of a sudden for the rest of your life.

I don't have life insurance because I don't have kids or a dependent spouse. But I'm also not married, plan to remain childfree and don't even have a car. My friends who are parents have life insurance as far as I know.

I know several young couples who have children and don't have life insurance for that reason. I even had to bug my DD (who is a SAHM) to have my SIL get insurance once they had children. It wasn't so much that they wanted to spend the money elsewhere as the thought hadn't really occurred to them to get life insurance. Thankfully they do now!

The go fund me was at $40k out of $100k an hour ago. It’s at $91k/$200k now. Just. Wow.

Tragic for any family to lose a loved one. And the inappropriate curious side of me still wonders how someone passes away unexpectedly while surrounded by family. It's just a weird juxtaposition.

A friend of mine used to be friends with them and said he had an aneurysm. I can't verify that but that would make sense on how quickly he passed. I was never a fan of either of theirs but it is very unfortunate.

I'm always surprised at how well to do families get more Go Fund Me $ than those that truly need it. She's a single mom now with four kids, no job and they had no life insurance. Sounds like they need it?

Do I have him mixed up with someone else, wasn’t he a cyber bully? He's said some terrible stuff online, for sure. Here's a previous thread about him. But yah, it doesn't take away from his wife's pain and anger right now. I'm no fan of either of them but I feel for her and her kids. Exactly. I am sorry for his wife and their children and his family.

But looks like in recent years he'd had a change of heart. This local news article says he raised $400,000+ for victims of Hurricane Maria and he raised more than $30,000 for kids with cancer. Plus he crusaded against child porn, online bullying, etc. Went to schools and talked to thousands of students about getting off social media. Looks like he impacted a lot of people in a positive way. Isn't is nice that we can all change for the better? www.fox13now.com/news/local-news/youth-advocate-collin-kartchner-dies-at-40-years-old

Sounds like they need it? Well, there is no reasonable reason they didn’t have life insurance. To me the sole provider of the family with small children not having life insurance is foolish. They clearly weren’t struggling to make ends meet, so they absolutely could have been paying for life insurance. You don’t drive a car without car insurance, this is really no different. I don’t have life insurance, but we have that thing in our mortgage that pays off the house if one of us die. I don’t make much as a PreK teacher, my husband does have life insurance though since he is the bread winner and wants to make sure the cats and I can eat if something happens to him. We have no dependents, but if we did we would both have it. I don’t want to get into the “who deserves it more” battle, and I am not going to judge people donating, but any spare money I have to donate will not be going to them. I prefer to donate to local food banks and to the humane society.

I still donated a few dollars because even though the problem she's in (no insurance) is one of her own making (or her husband's), when isn't that the case? We're all walking around making mistakes all the time. None of us know which one is going to come back to bite us in the ass? This one did them, I guess. I just hope people would come to my aid in my moment of need, you know? Plus I liked some of her early paper collections. They brought me some joy (even though more recent ones were pretty rough). Paying that back some, I guess. I feel bad for her.

Too busy for life insurance? Bullshit. It’s expensive to do it well and costs my family quite a bit of money to ensure we are taken care of if my husband or I pass away. All the vacations and fancy house but can’t pay for insurance. Enraging.

How very sad for them, even if I wasn't a fan of his. I didn't follow him, so hopefully the change of heart was real. If it was an aneurism, I hope they check all the kids. I had a friend die in her early 20's. Her dad had also had one several years before. It can run in families. It was awful.

It is extremely sad that he is gone and a quick internet search showed me he was fighting the same we all fight as parents-it’s horrible, the internet and cell phones. That’s a noble cause. But in my home we don’t just eliminate it, we teach the teenager how to handle it properly. There’s no going backwards with social media amd society.

I started following her, when she won Creating Keepsakes Magazine Scrapbooker of the Year.
I stopped following and lost respect for her, when they thought it funny, okay to do and bragged about.....when he honked at and flipped of the Officer who gave him a ticket.
Not a fan of either of them, but sorry for her and her children's loss. No matter what one's character is and no matter what type of person someone is, no one deserves to endure such heartache.

So now my friend said they don't know exactly what happened. Whatever the case may be, losing a spouse is awful and she's got a very tough road ahead of her. Hope she finds peace for her and her kids. They will need her now more than ever.
