Hmm, all white outfit? JLo is gorgeous but all white? A nod to the power suits? But wow, that's a lot of bling and glitz. People Magazine described it as "suffragette white" - perhaps something she shared and about which she was being very purposeful?

Oh my goodness. I went through every single post on every single page of this whole post. I agree with all of you. I cried through some of this, I felt overwhelming through most of it, And I loved every second of it!
I feel very sad that people who disagree with Biden aren’t listening. I would really like to hear what their problem with anything that was said or done today is. Biden speech was excellent, Gorman was unbelievable, and I loved Gaga and J Lo.
Did anything like this ever once happened in the past four years?

Well, separation of Church and State is not quite there yet but ho hey, that's a matter of discussion for another day. Oh Gaga, what the fug? Prayer at an inauguration is tradition anf Biden is a devout Catholic. Im sure that a non-religious president elect could opt to skip those parts.

I was 4 when kennedy became president. I remember seeing robert frost speak.. and that's all I remember. I was totally moved by the poets of the democratic presidents since. today's poem is an outstanding addition to this tradition. youngest person to speak at inagural.

Good Morning all. It's almost 6am Thursday here in my part of Australia, and I've just tuned in to CNN. as the last post was being played. I know I've missed quite a lot of it, but it's wonderful to see that your country finally has a president and VP who will begin the healing process. Wonderful to see the first woman to hold such an office. A great moment for America, and the rest of the free world. I think the two of them will make a formidable team, they have a massive job ahead of them with the hopes of so many on their shoulders.

I think Trump not being present for the inauguration and other activities was a gift. He would have been a distraction and contributed little to the day. The day has the right focus, the right respect, and the right tone without him. Not missed.

For anyone playing along as though this was the event of the year, any picks? My main disappointment is that no men stood out or made bold choices. Classic pick: Michelle Obama, absolute monotone win. Strong, feminine, perfectly tailored and the right hue of "subdued brightness". Wildcard pick: Ella Emhoff, youth's boldness with class. Another really well-tailored look with just the right amount of whimsy to brighten up such a solemn event. As an actual scrapbooker (yes, yes, some of us still scrapbook), I remain partial to a glitter vomit/sneeze. Can't help myself. O verall winner: Amanda Gorman, the coming together of literary force and physical allegory. The strength of the words brought to life by the voice, the gestures and, ultimately, the fashion. Her look carried the message. Special mention: Gaga's oversized Mockingjay of peace brooch. Did not care for the skirt part of her dress that looked like bubbling lava swallowing her (yes, yes, that's *so* Gaga but still gonna be a meh from me) but that pin was a gorgeous symbol of hope on the centre stage. I watched on CBS and Gayle King was saying that Oprah contacted her (Amanda Gorman) to let her know that she bought Maya Angelou's coat and gloves when she did her inaugural poem and wanted to carry on that tradition with her. Amanda Gorman said that she had already picked her coat, so Oprah ended up buying her her earrings and the ring which was a bird in a cage - an homage to Maya Angelou. I just love that!

My high heel days are long gone. They're instruments of torture. I was amazed at the number of steps they all had to go up and down today. And, okay I’ve had one knee replaced, and the other will be soon, but I’m envious of how well they all navigated the stairs, often without railings, like at the Capitol. I’m way younger than Biden and his wife, but no way could I have gone up or down so many stairs so easily, especially in heels.

"Vice President-elect Kamala Harris wore an outfit by Black designers on Inauguration Day. Harris arrived to the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday in a purple outfit, including a long coat. The ensemble featured pieces by Black designers Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson, Associated Press reporter Alexandra Jaffe tweeted, citing a Harris aide. Her husband, Doug Emhoff, wore a suit designed by Ralph Lauren, according to Jaffe. Harris is the first Black woman and South Asian American to be elected vice president in the U.S. Harris, a graduate of Howard University, is the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants. The vice president-elect also paid homage to Black designers on Tuesday evening, wearing a camel-colored Pyer Moss coat to a ceremony honoring the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. Pyer Moss was founded by Kerby Jean-Raymond, a Black designer from Brooklyn, New York. " news.jdevcloud.com/kamala-harris-wears-black-designers-on-historic-inauguration-day/There were clearly no scrapbookers involved in sorting out what the women were going to wear. I can't figure out what paper to use that's going to work with both the First Lady and Vice President Harris Mind you, I also don't know how I'm going to find a way to legally print this photo.

Dr. Biden was clearly struggling after that long, long staircase in the Capitol after the swearing in. I thought to myself, give the poor lady a chair and let her catch her breath!

I'm late to the party, as it is 8:45 Thursday morning here, and all the fun was happening whilst I was asleep. I haven't seen any video of the inauguration yet, only photos. I knew it was going to be a happy day for people around the world, but I didn’t think I’d be looking at photos with tears in my eyes, some 16,000km away. Oh, and that photo of the four of them, with Jill and Kamala standing together in those gorgeous purple and blue outfits (one of my favourite colour combinations!), makes this scrapbooker really happy! There were clearly no scrapbookers involved in sorting out what the women were going to wear. I can't figure out what paper to use that's going to work with both the First Lady and Vice President Harris ETA: I had posted about the photo making me happy as a scrapbooker before reading your comment. I have tons and tons of paper that would work well with that photo. The colours go beautifully together IMO.
