I'm just wondering how many people are thinking they may travel in the next 6-8 months. We went up to the mountains last August (about a two maybe 2.5 hour drive from here) but damn I miss traveling.
Are you planning on taking a vacation? Will you stay in your state? Only do road trip? Fly? Leave the country?
ETA: you can choose more than one option if it fits

Maybe 2022. Maybe.

Nothing set in stone, it’s too early to tell what the world will look like in August when we typically take a trip.

We are going to keep doing what we have been doing—renting houses in driving distance in pretty places and hanging out at the house.
If things change a lot by summer, we may get more ambitious, but that is assuming that things only improve moderately.

Kids and I are flying to Vegas next week.
Spring Break is in March and we are going to Disney. It will be our first time driving there - not because we don’t want to fly, but because we are doing our 50 before 18 challenge of getting our kids to all 50 states before they turn 18 and we want to make stops in Alabama and Mississippi.
This summer we will do at least 3 trips. One will for sure be a beach road trip. We are thinking the others might be road trip to GA and TN and a big trip to Hawaii.

I voted other. We are thinking of December, if things look good. Your OP said 6-8 months, and this is outside that range. We will both be vaccinated by then, hopefully, so that is our plan for now.

Yes I am!! I am so excited. I am driving to North Carolina for a week at end of summer. Already booked my condo. I would be flying, but I worry about DS10's ears. He had tubes put in due to ear infections.

Yes. We'll rent a beach house like we always do. We did last summer with no problems. We drive straight there, the only ones who stay there are the three of us, and my ds and his family because they can be trusted with their precautions at home. Back in June we brought all of the food with us except for a few things like milk and ice cream, and I went shopping for those the next morning at 6:00 a.m. so I had the store to myself. We didn't go anywhere except the beach and the house, and we went on some walks and hikes. We'll do all that again.

Kids and I are flying to Vegas next week. Curious to what you guys are going to do in Vegas? My brother and family are going next wk also. I'm like..okkk? what are you going to do? I know things are open, but not many family themed shows I dont think, and it doesn't look warm enough to say, swim or anything?

We are going for two reasons 1) to eat at Hell’s Kitchen (the current season of the show is in Vegas and you can actually eat there) 2) to go to the opening of the new Meow Wolf Those are the reasons we planned the trip, but we are also visiting The Mob Museum, The Neon Museum, MARVEL S.T.A.T.I.O.N., the Hoover Dam, and the Grand Canyon (and doing the Skywalk there). All of the pools are heated and a lot of the hotels have indoor pools, too. Another motivating factor for us is the 50 before 18 challenge and we need Nevada and Arizona. But we also don’t consider this like a Big Family Vacation. It’s just something fun to do with friends while we’re bored AF.

DH and I were just talking about whether to try to plan to go to Hawaii in December. We go every five years. DH is trying to get a job so we decided to wait until the end of March to make the decision. We really miss traveling, but DH’s older Mom is in our town and depends on DH for groceries and errands so we won’t go anywhere until things are relatively back to normal and DH feels it’s safe for her to go to the shops.

We're not going anywhere till we're vaccinated and probably not for a while after that. I'm hoping for a vaccine in the next couple months, but my husband is in the general population and it could take till fall for him. We're not even thinking about travel and I imagine it will be 2022 before we go anywhere. But I really hope I'm being too pessimistic and things will work out better than I think.

But we also don’t consider this like a Big Family Vacation. It’s just something fun to do with friends while we’re bored AF. ahhh. got it. Actually the indoor pools thing is not correct. Some may claim they have indoor pools, but it may be just a hot tub, or spa extension inside the hotel. We found that just going down to the pool was a PITA. so we never went. It was too far, and trekking thru casinos, etc just to get there, in your swimsuit, or towel. We ate at Hells kitchen when we were there. It was very good. you will love it! We don't party or gamble, so when we went to Vegas everyone was like. WHY are you guys going there? we went to see shows and eat at great restaurants. which we did! have fun.

We plan to go to France when the borders open up. By then we will be vaccinated. We will likely drive because we want to take Emma (our lab). We plan to stay in an AirBnB in Provance.
If it seems safe, we plan to go to Scotland in September. I’m not sure and we’ll see what happens with the UK. Travel between France and the UK is essential travel only right now. If that doesn’t work out, we’ll likely go to the eastern side of Germany.
Of course, this all depends on how the numbers are doing and if it seems safe for the vaccinated to travel.

We've rented a house on the beach in the Caribbean in July. I don't care if I have to swim from Florida, I'm going.

Yes, I'm visiting Seattle/the PNW in May and Sanibel in June. I'll be flying both times. Staying in hotels for the first trip and a condo for the second.
I've been vaccinated but that was not a deciding factor. I'm not a fan of flying in the best of times but it's too far otherwise.

I sure as heck hope so. I have every intention of going to Kelowna in the summer, and I'd like to go to Seattle in the fall, so I am hoping we get our acts together & reopen the border. Enough is enough.

We will be going out to our home in BC in April. It will be nice to have a change of scenery. And likely a road trip down the wine trail at some point in the summer.

So far it is still a go for our High School Band to play at Disney, so if the trip is on my DD and I will be going. DH and DS are planning a trip to Washington DC as DS's senior trip. I want to go with them, but it is pushing our budget this year as it is (DD's trip is paid for thanks to a sweet sponsor and part of mine is as she has been raising money to help out). We want to go see DH's parents in Texas as his dad has cancer and may not have a lot of time left.

We are planning to fly to another province in August. I think 3/4 of us will have been vaccinated by then, but probably not my 14 year old. We are assuming this summer looks at least as good as last summer, if not better in terms of case counts, and this also assumes interprovincial travel is OK'd by then. We're prepared to mask up and distance as much as possible while at our destination (which won't be hard to do as we'll be outdoors pretty much the whole time).
We're planning our first international trip for December 2021, right after Christmas.
I think this is fairly realistic based on current information, but we are also very much aware that these plans could be cancelled yet again.
We've just moved a cruise my entire extended family is taking to Alaska from July 2021 to July 2022.

We bought a trailer camper in October of 2019 and it has not left the driveway since we brought it home I'm hoping to at least go on a quick 2-3 day camping trip near the end of the summer.

Oh and the museums, restaurant, and attractions are limited to 25% capacity with advanced, timed tickets and reservations required for everything, so I feel like if you’re going to take kids, now is the perfect time to do it. Plus, our flight and hotel were crazy cheap and we’re staying at the Bellagio.

I voted other. We usually visit my elderly FIL every year in October. We live in WA state, and he lives in Arkansas. Obviously, we had to skip out annual visit last year, but we are hopeful that we can go in October this year. We will only travel if DH and I, as well as FIL are all fully vaccinated. He will be turning 89 this year, so we feel it is important to spend time together when it is safe to do so.

We will only go camping. With our own trailer, on our own. One week at the beach, another week at the mountains. We’ve been this careful so far. So a year of non luxury vacay is fine with me.

Planning? No. Hoping? Yes. Hopeful, not really. We were meant to have a special holiday last Autumn/Winter so I would LOVE to do it this year instead but it's way too early to plan it with things as they are here. Our trip to Seville Spain was cancelled last March and again this March too...maybe next year?
