They're saying it's a "precautionary measure" but he is 99yo, so it's not unrealistic that his death could be any time.

I hope that he heals from whatever his medical issue is and he can celebrate turning 100.

I saw that. Am I making up that he had a hospital stay last year? I hope he is back home soon.

I'm sure that it is a precautionary measure, he's quite tough for his age and he travelled by car and walked unaided into the hospital according to reports. Hope he gets well pretty soon.

Was that this Christmas just gone or Christmas 2019 ? He was in in Dec 2019 that I know, I must have missed the news he was in this one just gone too.

From cbc.ca
In 2011, he was rushed to a hospital by helicopter after suffering chest pains and was treated for a blocked coronary artery. In 2017, he spent two nights in the King Edward VII Hospital and was hospitalized for 10 days in 2018 for a hip replacement.
Philip was last hospitalized in December 2019, spending four nights in the King Edward VII Hospital for what the palace said was planned treatment of a pre-existing condition.
He was forced to give up driving at the age of 97, after smashing into a car while driving a Land Rover near Sandringham estate in January 2019. Philip needed help to get out of the Land Rover but wasn't injured. A woman in the other vehicle suffered a broken wrist.

I agree gramasue It wasn't an emergency admission, he'd been feeling under the weather for a few days it seems, so hopefully he can be sorted out and go home soon

Wishing all the best for the Prince, and the rest of the family.
I’d imagine that when our British peas lose the Prince and Queen, it’ll almost feel like a family member has passed. I mean, they’ve been a part of your lives since (probably) you remember, and have just simply always been there (for lack of a better word).
Hopefully this is just a minor something-something and he’ll be back home in no time.

MichyM - Not everyone loves the Monarchy obviously but yes, I do feel an attachment to them in a way that’s hard to pin down or explain. I think it’s quite hard to find an equivalent for many people who haven’t lived with them always being there.

Brit peas - what do you make of Prince Charles having visited today? It's unusual from memory?

Brit peas - what do you make of Prince Charles having visited today? It's unusual from memory? We were just talking about that here. A couple of things came to mind, has Prince Philip been due to be in hospital for so long before, he's still expected to be there next week. Maybe they felt he needed a visitor to break up the time. Dh asked can you visit someone hospital at the moment, I said I don't think so but they have both been vaccinated and probably tested so the risk is small. They, as a family, are not huge hospital visitors when one of them is unwell, no big numbers visiting, very business like in front of the cameras. I'm not sure what to think, but Prince Philip is an elderly man and it is probably a good thing for him to see a friendly face. Given that so many in care homes and hospitals can't see family members and the royal family would be sensitive to that fact, I'm wondering if the visit is a last chance?

Although didn't the Queen visit him either the last time he was in or when he had his hip done 3/4 years ago? or Have I imagine that? Maybe Prince Charles saw it as an opportunity under strict conditions to see his father as obviously because of the rules he's not been allowed to go to Windsor so I imagine he hasn't actually seen him in person for some time. There again there would be a bit of a backlash if he has been allowed to as other are not depending on which hospital it is. I'm clutching at straws here rather than thinking he is more ill than that has been reported unless of course he's taken a turn for the worse which is something to be expected at his age sadly.

I think they just said on the news that he didn't have visitors when he was in during Dec 19 and they are very "No fuss" aren't they which is mainly what makes me wonder...although yes, they're unlikely to have seen each other much recently due to Covid. Much was made of the fact that Charles had come up from Gloucestershire and also that the visit was in breach of the very strict hospital rules. He only stayed half an hour apparently.

I wonder if he had a more severe reaction to the second dose of vaccine? Pure speculation on my part. He's such a special man, and I adore him and the Queen. I visually see him as the handsome grandfatherly prince, and then I learn about some of the horrible things he has said in the past and go 'nope' ... lol It's kind of hard to put that storybook "Prince" stereotype aside, but I think he is kind of an asshole in real life, is he not? Age can mellow a person though.

Depends what they class as No visitor or escort, except in exceptional circumstances, is permitted to attend the hospital. I suppose. Part of me thinks if he had taken a turn for the worse that Prince Charles' arrival would have been more " secret". His arrival was quite public it seems.

Age can mellow a person though. This American knows very little about the real life monarchy. That being said, I have watched season one of The Crown and I can’t decide if I feel sorry for him or if he’s a total dick. 😂

She became Queen in 1952, so for very many people, she is the only monarch of our lifetime - yes, she has 'always been there'; on our stamps for a long time, on our money etc. It will be a huge change when she goes. Even just the thought of having a King, instead of a Queen is weird for me.
