I’m sadly very behind. I don’t know where my mojo is. I’ve got 1 Jan 2 page spread done. First I dilly dallied choosing and sizing photos ( still not sure I have them right ) I’m just haven’t gotten the groove planning for pocket pages. Which is weird because I have no issue planning for tiny planner layouts. Now that they’ve been printed it’s all overwhelming to go thru them sort them ( why can the prints never come in the same order I order them? ) I guess I should just print them home like I do for my planner since that works so well for me.
I have to find a method that works for me. I’m going to try doing Sept photos as I go, not worry about the stack of photos from Jan-June for now.

I normally only care to scrap the happy things and truly don't care if my entire life is documented. January 2021 was A LOT , so it ended up being 8 pages, mostly political 😲 I intended on doing an Inauguration Day insert into my memory planner, ( which I did do it turned out great used my best day stuff & all ) But I also intended to do a 1/6 insert in my memory planner which I haven’t done. At first because I was ‘still processing’ that kind of event in my head but all these months later I still haven’t wrapped my brain around what happened, the lack of response, and, ( I think worst of all ) the handslappy light consequences being handed out. It galls me and I don’t like scrapping angry stuff. I don’t know if I want to look back & revive the rage I feel over it. I’m not sure I’ll put it in my PL since I’ve had such a hard time with it. All that to say I love your pages the stamps are perfect little touches * chefs kiss*

All that to say I love your pages the stamps are perfect little touches * chefs kiss* I get it! I seem to deal with events like 01/06 with sarcastic humor. Which is why I easily completed those pages. I need to get more serious photos of the day's events. I've done little journaling, but I feel like the headlines which repeatedly say Pro-Trump mob and stupid terrorists in my pages are enough. A bit off topic, but I've been following this guy on Twitter, that gives me a bit of hope because of the slow process. He's good at explaining things. Like all the stupid motions of the NUMEROUS defendants.

Inspired by #donebydecember, I counted that there are 11 weeks left in the year. I thought what if I try to do one month a week. Then in January I would just need to do December. This is probably too ambitious. I have finished 1 month for 2019 and that is it.
PROS - I would have 4 or 5 pages for a month so I can do that in a week - Digital so no waiting for printing - I would be so happy to have my photos in a book - I want to make scrapbooking more of a habit
CONS - It is still a lot of work and I will get tired of it - I might want to do Journal your Christmas (JYC) this year
I started working on September. My question to all you experienced documenters is would you a) work backwards through the year or b) start with January and go forwards?

My question to all you experienced documenters is would you a) work backwards through the year or b) start with January and go forwards? My brain only works moving forward, not backwards. I would start with January and go forward. If I had to, a compromise would be starting at the beginning of September and going forward to current. Then August to September, then July to August, then June to July, etc. goung backwards in chunks, but scrapping forward. I’ve tried doing it wholly backwards and it was so confusing to me it took longer and was frustrating the whole time.

When I had to play catch up on a digi album like this, I started by getting all my journaling written and my week start and end dates identified. Then when I came to work on a page I could pick any of those weeks to work with, and just delete the notes out of my word doc as I completed the page.
In paper versions I do something similar, except I also print the photos and stick them in page protectors. Then I'll jump around the weeks and finish pages as I'm inspired.
I will say, I find it easier to work going forward in consecutive weeks. I've had one random week at the start of Aug incomplete but have done all the pages past that, and it's been hard finding the motivation to go back and do that one week. I think it would be easier to jump around if it was a whole month missing, although I definitely find it easier to scrap these types of albums more aligned to the season in which the photos are taken.

In your case, I would probably just start in January since you've done nothing. OR I would just do it by months and not try to work out all the individual weeks, if that makes sense. I'd do the monthly highlights and call it good.

I see merits to both (but I am a Gemini, so that’s my nature). I like your approach of one month a week. I would probably do October, since it’s fresh, then go back and do January. Then I’d try to keep up with November, while going back to Feb, and so on. I also like to batch my PL catch up, so I’d print all the photos for a month and put them in pockets. Then, I’d pick my cards and put them in pockets. Then, I’d add journaling. And Finally, add the extras. Then move to the next month. I’m behind and may try this myself!

This is probably too ambitious. I have finished 1 month for 2019 and that is it. I would start documenting the present right away and not worry about the previous months of the year too much. Project Life is already ambitious and challenging when you manage to keep up with it. Doing 12 months in 12 weeks sounds like it might lead to burnout. I'd start on October right away and work back one month at a time whenever I felt like it. So, next up, would be present-time documenting November + September. Then attempt to do August, and so on. And if you don't finish the entire year, don't feel too upset about it. It's better having a few months documented than nothing at all just because you want to start with a clean state and have a perfect January-December finish. My mantra is that what's worth doing is worth doing poorly. And that means that on days when I'm exhausted and just want to head to bed right away, brushing my teeth 1 minute instead of the recommended 2 is better than not brushing them at all. Same with PL, having a few months of a year documented is better than not documenting at all just because you don't have a perfect 12-month chronology in the album. Good luck and let us know what you've settled on (and how it 's going, of course)!

honeypea Chinagirl828 mom cbscrapper sleepingbootyThanks for chiming in with advice and encouragement. I am calling my plan Forwards + Recent. So I will either do a) the month that just ended or b) the oldest month. The pages are digital monthly summaries, 12x12 size using basic grid templates. I think that forwards will help in case I want 2 pages to be beside each other. I finished September because I was excited about my daughter starting school. It was 5 pages. Her birthday is in January so that is fun to work on now. I forgot how much snow we had at the start of the year.

burnbright - Your plan sounds great, you're setting your expectations and doing what you can when you have time. I watched this video a few weeks ago on how she finished 2019 PL fairly quickly. I've been going through my photos over the past few years since watching this and am planning on trying it out. She keeps everything very simple so it seems very doable. Craft Social Kelli PL catchup

Ok my fellow Project Lifers, I could use your brain power here.
I want to start journaling with intention of including it in my Project Life spreads. Beyond just the photos I take. I typically have a 2 month turnover before getting previous months done. I just printed August and September photos and will start on those spreads next week. So journaling feels important. I'm capturing photos but not the little stuff, kwim?
Anyone have suggestions? I tend to lean toward writing it down on paper, notebook, etc. One of my favorite parts about WITL is sitting down at the end of the day and writing about it. Funny things my kids said, doggy antics, moods, etc. If journal by hand, it needs to be small and soft bound (no spirals or rings). Travelers notebook or 6x8 size ideally. I did see the Everyday Explorers planner but I think that's a little "too" intentional for me. I don't need goal setting, habit tracking, etc.
Or I could do something on my phone since it is literally always with me. BUT, I really hate typing on it. The thought of having automatic reminders set each day would be great though.
So I need a monthly calendar to quickly jot what happened. Spots for journaling, quotes, good things/hard things, etc.
Does this exist?

I've used Felicity Jane notebooks before, but I can't say that I am really a fan of them. I needed something a little more sturdy.

I use these to jot down notes but it's not a calendar, it's just a small notebook. Muji notebookThey have this one as well in A5 size (6x8-ish) : recycled paper calendar by Muji

I use the Day One app for daily journaling to record what happened during the day so that I can refer back to it when I'm ready to work on my project life. I agree that I hate typing on my phone, but I have it sync across my devices and I tend to type on my computer, but I can access it on my ipad/phone or computer. That said, I think they have turned to a subscription model now, I have a grandfathered version of the app because I purchased the app prior to them having a subscription. But it's definitely worth looking into! If you want a paper journal, I love the journals from Archer & Olive. They are dot grid journals in A5 or B5 size and they are bound like a book, and they are absolutely amazing quality. I could definitely see turning one of these journals into a daily log of sorts. I would just predate the pages for about a month at a time, so you have one page per day, and then you can jot down notes or stories at the end of the day or whenever you think about it. You also could just forgo and set up and just add journaling to it as you go.

The quality is so nice--thick pages and so well put together. I am going to try to use it as a planner/journal this year. I bought an HP Sprocket and I am going to print a photo each day and put it into my planner. We'll see if I actually stick with it!

Just bought the FYC November kit. It's the perfect way to complete December in my PL album when I do a December Daily. I love the retrospective nature of the kit, it will be a great recap for the year.
What are your plans for documenting 2022? I need to decide on what kit to use. Technically I have more than enough supplies to not need a kit, but kits help me stay excited and motivated to stay on top of PL. Fresh supplies are fun.
I currently subscribe to Studio Calico. It's my Brokeback Mountain, "I wish I knew how to quit you." About half the kit gets resold, I'm not using the monthly puffy sticker, never keep the Color Theory labels or alpha. Half the stamps and most of the washi go. May and August were stinker kits. But I still feel like it's the best out there for me.
Paper Person - I loathe having to cut apart the cards. And too many mistakes and issues for my taste.
Feed Your Craft - This may be the one I switch to. Colors and styles are always good. Something is preventing me from subbing though. Lack of chipboard? Lack of variety of embellishments?
Elle's Studio - not my style
Cocoa Daisy - not my style
AE - I've tried her subs in the past, they just do not work for my style of scrapbooking.
What else is out there?

janamke FYC doesn’t have a subscription! Just monthly releases. PP will switch to cards in January- no more cutting apart! I laughed at your SC remark. I’m in the same boat. I’d like to forget they exist, but their stuff is overall the best fit for what I like to do. I’ve been thinking about my PL plans for next year. I know I want to switch to a smaller format. I have a 9x12 to try out. As for supplies/kits. I will probably just keep doing what I gave done all year - buy it all from everywhere and mix it together as I like. 😂 Probably buying less though. It was a big buying year for me and I’d like to scale that way back.

I still get SC, and it will be be weird quitting that one since I’ve been a subscriber since 2008 of something SC. But I throw away the washi, there are repeats in the cards, some of the alphas are too transparent…I’m dumping more than I use. I also get Elle’s studio but it’s not enough for a month. I need to see what else is out there. I’m considering moving back to a “1 page protector per week” model. I do 2 page protectors per month and it’s not always enough do 9x12 PL.

I'm happy and need to keep plugging away at it. I'm working on May but I really want to do December.

I am very happy to report that my 2021 album is done and dusted. I kept it pretty simple: a double page spread for each month (BH design A) and a few inserts whenever I had more stories to tell or a busier month such as the summer months. I also added a few traditional layouts and a week in the life project which I also did as a double page spread. I had decided early on in the year that I would keep all my memory keeping in the same album and that is why for the first time in 10 years I did not do a separate DD album. I am really happy with how it turned out and love that a whole year is captured in one album. I am going to do the same again this year as I feel that this setup really worked for me.
I also really loved working with the AE SBTM kit but I had to give up my subscription at the end of the year because of shipping delays and issues with customs and taxes here in Portugal. I will probably be using the digital kits this year as well as stuff from my stash. I always find such cool things whenever I look through my stash and I love finding ways to incorporate what I already have instead of buying more and more stuff. This year I'm sure that it will feel really good to declutter and use what I have.
