Those shawl pins are gorgeous. So many different styles. Have shawl pins been a thing for a long time, as in can I find them at antique stores and such? I really like the wooden ones. I think that if you are antiqueing you won't likely find shawl pins like these. I think you will most likely find only broaches

Shawl pins/brooches have been a thing since the Vikings at least so definitely an antique thing over here. I doubt you’d be able to pick up a genuine Viking one though. There are lots of lovely Celtic/Scottish/Irish designs too. Lots of reproductions are available.

jeremysgirl and gillyp thank you. In my mind, I thought a shawl would be held closed with a brooch, so when I was those pins I could see the brilliance of that form of closure. It seems they would be less snag inducing. When we finally get to the UK again I will definitely keep an eye out. A Viking era one would be epic to find! 😀

I am ashamed to say that I had heard of a scarf clip, but never a shawl pin. I suppose I just thought they were a type of brooch. What kind of a rock have I been living under? I've just done an internet search and a whole new world has opened up to me. There are such pretty ones out there! Here are all the ones I have received so far. Ohhhh. They're all so different. I really love the Cloisonné one with the pearl. And the one with the rings. I don't wear shawls, but now I need a shawl and some shawl pins.
