I'm not sure I'll get it done in time to wear it with my dress. Maybe you'll love wearing the dress so much, and it will last, so you will? {fingers crossed} I hope so. I'm still in the excitement phase of wearing my dress as I'm only on day #3. But I worry that by the midpoint I will be completely over it.

PLurker so many people say that crafty people ought to go into business but i agree with you that would suck the fun out of my hobby. Exactly. And I have the craft attention span of a knat. Needlework, painting, woodwork, etc. I dabble amongst so many that a business would be unfocused, too. I even had a knitting machine years ago and used that a lot for a while. I made everyone hats and scarves one year. Blankets the next. That I used a machine may say a lot about me, too. Lack of patience to do all by hand? The need for (more)instant gratification? Probably that, so I can move in to the "next thing". 😂

I sewed professionally when DD was young and said never again. When I quit, it was almost 5 years before I sewed much due to the burnout it caused. Now when people tell me I should have a business, I tell them I prefer not to make my hobby into a job.

I’ve started my Lucy Attic 24 Yuletide It's lovely
My yarn is in the country, I had to pay customs charges for the first time ever on a parcel from the UK, now I'm doubly anxious that it might get deliverd to the wrong address.

Thanks lainey . I’ve everything crossed that it gets to you the right at address quickly. Hopefully the customs charges weren’t hefty! 😱i I am thinking of turning my work every three rounds - on the round that’s all trebles. Hopefully it will stop my usual granny square twist

And what do you mean by turning your work? Do you flip it over and go the other direction? But isn't there a back side? I have started mine, but it already looks a bit different on one side. Sorry for all the dumb questions--I've never made a granny square, and have never made a blanket square like this.

Sorry for all the dumb questions--I've never made a granny square, and have never made a blanket square like this. Yes by turning your work we mean going in the other direction. With a row of just double crochet stitches (they've got to be bordered by rows that are different) it won't make a difference to the finished look of the piece as long as you make sure each DC row of the blanket is done the same way.

Ah, okay! So you just do it for that row--I was envisioning switching, doing a few rows, then switching again. Thanks for that tip.

I’ve started my Lucy Attic 24 Yuletide I LOVE these colors. Nice job! I wondered if this crochet shawl would work with your yarn if you don't like knitting the Float Stop, Drop and Pop ShawlIsn't that interesting! Between that and the pattern posted by jeremysgirl - such an obvious and yet completely new-to-me concept! My kid thinks I need to go into business. My thought is it's only fun when I don't "have to", then it becomes a fun-sucking job. Lol so many people say that crafty people ought to go into business but i agree with you that would suck the fun out of my hobby. I have the craft attention span of a knat. Needlework, painting, woodwork, etc. I dabble amongst so many that a business would be unfocused, too. I prefer not to make my hobby into a job. Literally, I made SO many blankets in the last year, I had to move them into large bins in the garage. "Sell them online!" "Set up a local craft fairs!" <what I've been told> Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is probably what I should do. Technically, I still do have an Etsy shop even. BUT... Selling becomes a full time job. I know, I've done it multiple times already. And it's not like you just open the lids on huge bins of crocheted blankets at a craft fair/festival during COVID and expect anyone to so much as stop, let alone buy. You need to buy and set up tables under some kind of tent with display units, credit card machines... plus all the accompanying table dressings and business cards. I've been to 2 local events recently - small but good - and I'd have been lucky to cover just the cost of the spot with sales. Not enough browsing and buying by the crowds even if I did have all I needed to set up a booth. Not to mention I'm at a complete loss on how to display any of it! I have all these items because I've needed to keep my hands moving, not because I wanted to spend time and money reopening a business. Maybe it's me. I'm spooked. I've restarted the selling business 3 separate times - was even a top seller - only to be hit with huge life/death events in real life that brought it to a crashing halt every time. Maybe some of you can relate. No one else seems to be able to.

I am thinking of turning my work every three rounds - on the round that’s all trebles. Hopefully it will stop my usual granny square twist Every three? That's an interesting idea. I'd love to know how it works out for you. And what do you mean by turning your work? Do you flip it over and go the other direction? But isn't there a back side? I have started mine, but it already looks a bit different on one side. Sorry for all the dumb questions--I've never made a granny square, and have never made a blanket square like this. Squares (and other shapes) are worked in rounds and not rows. You turn your work when you finish a row so you have stitches to work into. But when you work in the round (forget what shape it is) you are continuing to always move forward in the same direction. After a few rounds, most crocheters end up with work that is beginning to spiral from the center outwards even if the edges are squared up nicely. It's not always apparent if you only do a few rounds (one reason working with squares (and other shapes) is so popular). It's got to do with the tension in the yarn as you hold it, blahblahblah, which most of us can't easily correct. However, if you turn your work at the end of a round like you turn your work at the end of a row, the end result is not only more centered, both the front and the back of the piece looks good; there is no longer a definite back side. In this case, JoP is thinking about turning her work only on rounds with a particular stitch - one that will look about the same from its back side as it does from its front. The rest of the rounds will all be worked so the front sides actually face the front. It's a really smart idea.

I must admit, there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to our customs charges, I think it depends on the handler when goods hit the country!
I used to order a lot of scrapping supplies from the USA and providing what I ordered was less than £18 (the cut off point) there were no charges. Then things would arrive over that cut off point with no charges or they’d have charges and the post office’s admin fee added on. It made no difference what the shop put on the customs declaration. Now, post Brexit, I’ve ordered yarn from Germany and there’s been no charge although I was expecting it. Inexplicable!

I’ve never heard of it, sorry. That colour way is very pretty, though, and it looks like it would be quick to make up.

It immediately made me want a cup of ooh la lainey tea Enjoy your tea Right after I wrote that, I hopped up to make a cup of tea. I accidentally dropped my tea ball, and it made a surprisingly loud noise. That caused Dh to come investigate and then he wanted a cup of ooh la lainey tea as well. We just came in from the back porch after a lovely cup of tea and a chat.
