That's Paul Campbell! A few pages back, I was all giddy when I found out he was one of the two writers for An Unexpected Christmas (2021) with Bethany Joy Lenz and Tyler Hynes that several of us have fawned over in this thread. He injected a lot of his fun personality in the script. Definitely recommended if you like Paul Campbell's vibe and impeccable comedic timing. I also love Paul Campbell in Hallmark's Christmas by Starlight (2020) with Kimberly Sustad (from the Nine Kittens/Nine Lives movies). Definitely recommended, too! Thank you! I will add those to my list. It's refreshing to see a male lead not completely full of himself. I just wish there would be some cheesy christmas movies without romance. Does everyone gotta kiss all the time? It's so predictable. If I were a detective and on a stakeout with my partner, I would not be falling in love and making out. I would be doing my freaking job. Anyway.

Silent Night is good but it's proper doomsday. I don't really get the dark comedy vibes that much. It's more a dysfunctional family/friends drama that has funny moments and in which the characters try to keep it jolly despite the evident undoing of the world (and life). I would not recommend watching this if you're experiencing anxiety linked to the pandemic or watching this with small ones simply because it could be triggering. So, overall, I really enjoyed this one BUT I feel it has been represented a little different from what it actually is. It's grim. The end of the world is definitely there. The comedy results from how they're coping (or really, not coping) with the situation. It's very British. If you love your British humour, you'll have a wonderful time with this one and I can only recommend it. If you want light and fluffy, this is probably not a great option. But for my fellow dark souls, GO FOR IT! I can't believe some people still shit on Keira's acting...

Just finished the one about the woman who gets amnesia and runs an art foundation. It was cute. No issues with it. It's worth a watch.
Last night I watched Christmas in Connecticut and holy misogyny. My goodness. I mean I liked the storyline but I would like to see that modernized. 3 black people in the whole thing -- all in service roles.
And women are treated like complete shit. From the way the soldiers talk to and about the nurses (while smoking in the hospital, ha!) to the man who obsessively asks the lead to marry him despite her telling him no a million times.
Like her only option is to get fired or get married? Really? She has a lavish Manhattan apartment. Surely she can get another writing job. Oh and her boss is disgusting. What a freaking pig.
Loved the uncle character and how he was always looking out for her. Really sweet. That was some enabling there. Love it.
Obviously I will never be a film critic because I can't remember any names but this one had me mixed up.
I really enjoyed watching it but was just cringing.

I saw Lifetime's "Christmas By Chance" tonight and thought it was cute. The dog was 😍😍😍😍😍
I saw Hallmark's "Christmas in Queens" movie, and the New York accent of the lead actress drove me up the wall!
I also saw the Sister Swap movies by the Williams sisters. I got that they were trying to make them somewhat stand alone by showing the same scenes in both movies with slightly different things in each movie, but it was annoying, especially when watching them back to back. I felt like it was overhyped.

Non Hallmark victories, I finally got around to my favorite Christmas movie in the universe! Love at the Christmas Table 😍. If your library is partnered with Hoopla it's available there, and maybe through Discovery+? Not positive on that one. Chris even watched it this year and was like "that felt like a real movie" Of course it's a real movie it's the greatest tv based rom com Christmas movie on the planet

I wanted to like the Sister Swap movies. I liked the premise of 2 movies showing both points of view and I love Kimberly Williams Paisley, but omg. She was talking in some sing songy, higher pitched, fake sounding voice and it drove me crazy. She’s been in other Hallmark movies and she was not like that at all! And in actual tv shows (Nashville) and movies. So I was very disappointed and couldn’t even watch the second one.

I watched The Christmas House sequel and 2 thumbs down. I liked the first one, but this had too much conflict and everyone was just annoying. Jonathan Bennet is adorable, but he and his movie husband kept calling each other babe, and I HATE when couples call each other babe. And the Christmas decorations were pretty ugly.

Danica, to begin with. Then Danica's skinny arse 1997-called-and-wants-their-sperm-eyebrows-back look. And then the proposal by proxy. And finally, ANOTHER MOTHERFREAKIN' HOUSE BOUGHT WITHOUT CONSULTING THE PARTNER! The overall movie was good though and I really enjoyed Dustin Milligan in this. Ted 4eva. Lifetime has it on their YT channel for free if anyone's interested:

I watched the Netflix series Christmas Glow and really liked it. I am going to start learning French again so I'm going to watch it with subtitles, not dubbed next time. I took French for 6 years in middle and high school so I can still read most of it but I can't understand people unless they talk really slow (which no one does).
My DVR on Frndly is full and will get me to Christmas so I'm ready!

DH and I were shocked we made it to the end of this one. We were talking about how we've DNF'd so many of these this year, and were ready to abandon this one as well. But we were both feeling sick and looking for the remote seemed too challenging LOL. BUT, I will say that the thing I found refreshing about this one was that the brothers had a very emotional discussion, of the type usually reserved for women in these movies. I haven't watched to many like this, but a big YES to showing men sharing feelings with each other.

TAKE ME AWAY, I'M NOT BETTER THAN THIS 🚓👮♀️ Okay yes the buying of a house is 100% terrible and uncalled for. IMO if he had just done the cardboard house and left it at that with a "lets get together and find our own home" it would have been better. You've spent like 10 days total with this person because for whatever reason you only ever speak to one another for one night a year (and you've been gone for the past 5!) (AND IT IS 2012!!) but yes buying her a home and presumably (because he didn't know she was quitting her job) taking her away from her home, family, and friends.. ON TOP OF not even know if she was with another person! The audacity was through the roof... but I can't help it 🙈 When they have their fight and he pulls out the ring and is like "it wasn't meant to be this way" 💔💔💔💔 I DIE. I DIE EVERY TIME. I hate her crying at the end during the proposal and in all honesty I will usually turn it off before that because her cry face is irritating... BUT CMON. WHERE ELSE WILL YOU SEE A 37 YEAR OLD PLAYING HERSELF AT 18?! it's a thing of beauty, really.

In Hallmark news I'm in the middle of A Royal Queens Christmas and while I love princess/prince movies.. I can't get over the main girl because all I think of is her "he had a horrible death because I had incredible sex... it's just they way life works" line in Secret Life of the American Teenager. Poor woman will never live that down ETA: okay this was a cheese fest from the start in a borderline cringe-y way. ..and I spent the entire movie thinking this was one of the dudes from Agents of Shield ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ That's what I get for only watching one season I guess.

The previews for Royal Queens Christmas look SO good.
Dammit.
Well, I will leave it until the very last, until I've watched all of the other movies, and then watch if there is still time before Christmas.
And let me tell you, I will not watch a Christmas movie after December 25. I want it over.

Oh noo blemon, don't take what I say as gospel if you're excited for it! Maybe watch it next to last..or next next lol. Watched Christmas for Keeps and it was fine. The friend group is nice and I liked all the actors well enough but I don't think it'll be one I gravitate towards to rewatch. Then I put on this year's Godwink movie and good gravy. None of these have been good the past 4 years and I feel like they're getting more and more ridiculous with their "true story" movies. I got to the point where they were getting a Kringle which was probably only 10 minutes in and I noped out. THAT WAS NOT A KRINGLE. I was OFFENDED on behalf of Wisconsin Kringles! 😂 ..and when I read what else happened in the movie I'm glad I gave up lmao because it got even more ridiculous.

I've been thinking about the whole buying a house without telling your significant other deal. For the most part, it drives me up the wall (lol, even when Jim bought Pam a house in "The Office"). In the bridesmaid movie from this year, it didn't make me as mad. It seemed like the couple had tried to buy her late parents' house, but were outbid. When that deal fell through, he had a chance to buy the house with their original offer. He knew she wanted the house for sentimental reasons and they must have gone through the finances when they placed the offer the first time, so it's not like he bought the house on a whim.

A Castle for Christmas (Netflix) - Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes were somewhat miscast, I thought, in this weird story, but charming setting and secondary characters made it watchable. The only one I've watched so far as I'm not a big fan of the genre and don't have Hallmark. But I thought, "Scotland" good, "Netflix", easy....So.... These movies could be so much better. That secondary cast was great and the setting was lovely. But the story....ummmmm....yeah, it made me remember why I don't like these

(lol, even when Jim bought Pam a house in "The Office"). I feel as if I can speak to the Pam/Jim thing as I am an avid listener of the Office Ladies podcast and they just talked about this on the show. While I agree wholeheartedly with you about people not buying large items (cars/houses) without discussion, in this case I think it was a bit different. 1. Pam was in art school at the time and struggling with the fact that in order to finish the degree, she would have to repeat a course. Through this she realizes that while she loves art and wants to be an artist, she does not like graphic design at all and doesn't need to make art for a living. In the podcast they talk about how Pam was ready for that in her life. She wanted a house and kids. She was there for it. 2. Jim was buying the house to help his parents out. For him it was being a good son to them and also an investment. He could fix it up and sell it. He was not telling Pam, this is our house, we have to live here. He was saying, I bought this house. Do you like it? We don't have to live here but we can. I think he didn't want to bother her with such a huge decision while she was struggling with dropping out of school. But he fixed up the garage to say, I support you and I want you to have a space to make art. I can't imagine my husband and I NOT talking about something like that. We tend to overtalk about everything. But Jim can be a jerk sometimes. It's just because he's typically so awesome that we overlook his flaws. ALSO: Watched One December Night last night and it was excellent. I really loved it. I just loved Peter Gallagher. The whole movie was very well cast. I'm surprised he's not in the photos for the show, just the couple. And geesh why does every freaking movie have to have a romantic subplot. Why couldn't the two kids just stay friends? Why they gotta make out?

Not sure there's anything new here, but having just watched A California Christmas and agree 100% with her summary, I thought I'd share this list: www.pret-a-voyager.com/2021/12/tis-the-season-cheesy-christmas-movie-roundup/I'm only just catching up on the suggestions here but benefitting from your honest reviews. Thanks for sifting out the clangers for me (so how come I watched California Christmas? Will I never learn?)

So, long story short: I needed two PCR tests + waiting time in between the tests before I could go in to get treated for a banal sinus infection. Days pass as I wait out the results (and then am told I need to get another test because it must be Omicron - no, it wasn't). My infection grew significantly worse in that time. So I'm now on day 2 of corticosteroids. Woohoo! I'm swollen despite cutting out salt from my diet as soon as I started taking this treatment. And... my sleep is completely effed. I woke up at 1AM last night, unable to go back to sleep. So, I ended up sneaking out of bed and watching a Hallmark movie on my laptop in the dark. I didn't manage to get back to sleep before 5AM. Oy vey, this is not how I wanted to start my Christmas break (but here we are). On the plus side, MOAR HALLMARK FOR ME! 'Tis the Season to Be Merry: I wanted to love you, I really did. But you were just fine. I feel this could have turned out so much better with a few slight tweaks here and there. I did enjoy it and I liked the twist with the parents' business that is unusual for Hallmark. Had to laugh at my brain because when I watched the new season of You that dropped this year, every time Travis Van Winkle appeared on screen, I was thinking: "That's the bland-ish guy with great hair and great bod who always plays a dad in Hallmark movies." With this new movie, my brain had already retrained itself and I kept thinking how he was the howling-at-the-moon influencer from You. Anyway, decent enough to pass the time. Definitely not on my hate list but I'll have completely forgotten about this when the Countdown season ends. Travis Van Winkle loves to show off his bare chest and arms in this one. If you enjoy a perfectly sculpted and muscular man, you're in for a treat, jussayin'.

PSA: If you're looking for more seasonal Hallmark movies to watch, I've been meaning to recommend A New Year's Resolution featuring one of my favourite Hallmark male leads, Michael Rady. This is from last year's New Year, New Movies season which begins right after Christmas. They should have it on again this year once Christmas is over. I have fond memories of this one.
