Watched the Christmas Promise last night. It's sad, but I liked it best of this year's movies so far.
Am watching Coyote Creek Christmas tonight, and I'm not a fan. What a waste of a Ryan Paevey movie! 😭
I might watch another Christmas movie tonight - will either watch Christmas Sail or Much Ado about Christmas on GAC Family.

I watched Coyote Creek this morning and I think I'm just not a Paevey fan anymore?? He was so rigid and boring!
And this is completely on me being stuck in 2010 watching Pretty Little Liars, but I see Janel Parrish and I think "Aw gross she's like 20 he's way too old to be her love interest!!". No Jenna, she just turned 33! 🙃 I'd completely forgotten I had the same double take last year with that movie she did with Jeremy Jordan.
I've had the channel on all day as I did things around the house and the commercial of the week is for that time travel movie with Christopher Lloyd -- it looks super cute, I hope it's a good one.

I’ll have to find their movie to watch.

He was also in another one this past February where he played twin brothers switching places and it was very cute but I also love him so ?? probably biased lmao

I caught up on two Hallmark movies last night. Coyote Creek Christmas was meh to me but I find Paevey pretty underwhelming generally anyway. I didn't understand the parents trying to "protect" their grown-up, independent daughter from the news they were selling the inn. And the marmot's face. THE MARMOT'S FACE! 'Twas a thing of horror dreams. I was glad when it ended. Moved on and watched The Christmas Promise afterwards. This one was good. I actually enjoyed the leads although my brain kept thinking "evil nanny!" and "secret clone handler!". There were some things I found odd about this movie like Susan, the party host, who was a pretty shitty friend overall and didn't seem to have any redeeming qualities. Or the question mark/exlamation mark scene. I had to rewind that exchange a couple of times to try and figure out what they were talking about. I couldn't even make out what kind of kiss had given her. It looked like it was on the lips but then they discussed it like it was on the cheeks. I gave up. But I liked the general vibe and thought the ending was good too. There's no way she's going to make a living from those knits though, let's not kid ourselves.

Thought of y'all when I saw this: heavy.com/entertainment/hallmark/hallmark-stars-speak-out-gac-family/I do think there is going to be POC representation on GAC Family, especially with next week's movie starring Rukiya Bernard and Dewshane Williams. The fall movie with Jessica Lowndes and Chad Michael Murray also featured an interracial couple with a biracial daughter- it was the lead actress's brother, his wife, and their daughter. I watched "Much Ado About Christmas" last night, and it was probably my favorite so far this year. I've watched all of Hallmark's new movies, except for "Christmas Sail" and "Christmas in Harmony."

I was feeling a bit left out with no Hallmark channel, but I just found out that UK Peas can watch some of these Christmas movies on a new TV channel. I'm a bit late to catch on!! "Ever dreamed of a TV channel that plays Christmas films on a loop 24/7? Well, that dream is set to become a reality and it’s set to arrive later this month. GREAT! Movies Christmas will no doubt get us all in the festive spirit when it debuts on September 23 as it promises to play all the classics from Elf, Home Alone, and The Grinch. The channel, which will be available for free on Freeview, Sky, Virgin and Freesat, is temporarily taking over GREAT! Movies Classic and will be ramping up the yuletide content until January 4. Besides airing the golden oldies, new exclusives are also on the line-up, including A Christmas Melody, Just In Time For Christmas, Call Me Claus, and Crazy For Christmas." Ever hopeful, I'm now going to reread this thread and make a list (GREAT! Movies Christmas on Freeview: 51, Sky: 319, Virgin: 424, and Freesat: 303.)

So, I had the day mostly off and I was going to keep catching up on Hallmark this afternoon until I remembered it was premiere day for Netflix's first Christmas movie of the year. I am trying hard to keep quiet about what happens in Love Hard but oh em gee, this one was the diggity bomb. Just finished it and I'm still smiling. It was exactly my jam. I do love the fake romance trope but Netflix nailed it with this one. Everything was well executed: the writing, the character development, the cultural references, the colour scheme, the song covers. It was chef's kiss. There's a scene that had me going from laughing out loud to aww-ing out loud. You'll know it when you see it. If you ever hang out in the Becky Higgins thread, you'll immediately recognise the moment I burst out laughing. Booty's rating: love-love-LOVED it, going on the rewatch list, will definitely be played again later this month.

So, having not been a Hallmark-watcher as previously expressed...between real life stuff and real world stuff, I decided I need some downtime to cocoon myself, so started watching yesterday!
I watched Christmas in Evergreen and Five Star Christmas and sorta liked them both. Also really get a kick out of my SO's side commentary.
I set DVR to record the 3 new ones this weekend, so I am all in. Hopefully will help get me motivated to start making cards for swaps!
I will check out the Netflix release, I have to get over there to add to my watchlist.

I'm so behind 😩 don't you hate when life makes decisions for you? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I often leave the channel on when I'm cleaning or making dinner so I've been able to watch some old favs without having to really pay attention, which has been nice. scrapcat those two are SUCH good ones to start with!! Five Star Christmas was one, if not THE best last year and the first Christmas in Evergreen is a fan favorite, and peak Ashley Williams!

I'm woefully behind on my 2021 Hallmark movie watching, but I have them cued up to tape on my DVR! This is my kickoff weekend now that we're done with spooktober. Woo hoo! Will have to check out that Netflix one, too, sleepingbooty - sounds good!

There's no way she's going to make a living from those knits though, let's not kid ourselves. I always have so many criticisms of the economics of Hallmark. People are almost always appalling at their jobs. They quit their jobs to make money off reading blogs they just started. If only! My friend who lives in a small Midwest town pointed out that Hallmark towns are always delightful and quaint, not a big box store in sight, and yet somehow also not full of annoying tourists - how do they sustain their businesses? I guess the lack of real money problems is a big part of the fairy tale. Also, where the heck do they store the massive quantities of holiday decorations during the other 10 months of the year? Do they have 3 Christmas storage rooms like my MIL used to have? They need somewhere to roll away those Balsam Hill ornament storage carts. We're down to 1.5 rooms full of Christmas stuff at the in-law's place now and only 3 big Santas waiting for new homes by my fireplace. Tiny triumphs. Thanks for the Netflix review Booty.

Snarking at Hallmark nonsense is fun. Hopefully you catch some of the classics, there are some really good (bad) ones. Have you ever watched the nonsense A Christmas Prince on Netflix? I giggled my way through skim reading this royal Christmas review www.buzzfeed.com/jennaguillaume/the-definitive-ranking-of-royalty-themed-christmas-movies

I’ve been putting the Hallmark channel on some in the background for a couple of weeks now, but I finally sat down and watched a couple of the movies that I’ve recorded. I watched Boyfriends of Christmas Past, and it didn’t really hold my attention. I scrolled on my phone the whole time. I like Raymond Ablack, which is why I watched it, but I just couldn’t get into this movie. Next, I watched Gingerbread Miracle, and I really enjoyed this one. I actually watched the movie, and didn’t get distracted by other things. I started Christmas Sail, but kept getting interrupted not very far in to it, so I decided to turn it off, and try again later. I’m really looking forward to tonight’s premiere, Next Stop, Christmas. I am intrigued by Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson starring in it.

Watched the new Netflix movie while I fussy cut some papers last night.. It was cute, genuinely funny, and easily better than anything HM is putting out this year buuuuuuut.. I hate movies where liars prosper. Like..what he did was legit deplorable and we're supposed to feel bad?? I dunno man.
Josh shouldn't have gotten the girl and she shouldn't have gotten with either of them. I knew going in that I wouldn't like the end (cos duh it would be them ending up together!) but I'm glad I did watch because it got some laughs out of me.
I loved seeing Henry Shum Jr!! His character was ridiculous in a great way. Also loved seeing the dude who played Tag actually playing his age because seeing his attempt at playing 16 on Never Have I Ever is rough as hell.

I thought Next Stop, Christmas was pretty good. I like the time travel themed ones, and even though the time travel was to a fairly recent time, I still liked it. One little detail bothered me When she arrived at her parents house in the past and her dog was still alive. If I had the chance to see my cats again, I'd be hugging them and weeping. She was just like, Oh, you're alive.

Who are these people?!?!? LOL
I’m a looong time Hallmark movie watcher. This crop of Christmas movies have been full of new-newcomers. I don’t even recognize them as having played a secondary role in any movie I’ve watched. Some of them are really not ready to be leads. There have been some really good actors playing sisters/brothers/best friends/coworkers, etc over the years. I wish they’d give more of them a chance.
I know there are many, many viewers that are sick of the more established stars and think they are too old. But I’m so over the Cindy Busby /Ryan Peavey worship. Ugh. I miss the traditional Hallmark Christmas movie stars.
I have not cared for a new Christmas movie yet. Sigh. Off to find out what the new movie is for tonight. Hope springs eternal.

I'm starting to think I'm not cut out for all these schmaltzy Hallmark movies. The only one I've watched right through without losing interest is The Santa Stakeout. I enjoyed that. I'm not hating Christmas Sail but haven't finished it yet. I had Gingerbread Miracle on yesterday but gave up halfway through. I'm about to try Next Stop, Christmas. I'm trying to stay focused and fill out Jo Blackford's bingo cards while I watch, which is fun. The range of storylines really is painfully limited isn't it!
Are the Netflix Christmas offerings better? Worse? My second Frndly trial period ends soon and I can't pay to subscribe because I'm not in the U.S. (as I discovered when they charged me for the month and then de-activated my account lol).

I have only watched You, me and the Christmas Trees so far. Me and my daughter watch Hallmark movies mostly to laugh and this did not disappoint. Who knew that the climax would be over two people arguing about crop diversification? Loved how they know each other for a few days and get so serious. I did love the old Victorian and farm homes they showed and the scenery at the beginning of the movie was gorgeous. My favorite was the town bringing their Christmas ornaments for the tree and it all perfectly coordinated. I like the nod to Wayne in the Wonder Years (Dwayne in the movie). He played the same type of obnoxious character.

I wanted to like "Christmas on Honeysuckle Lane" because I loved Alicia Witt in "A Very Merry Mixup". The plot relates to something we're going through - parents gone and perhaps traditions, how to deal with their estate. But the acting was strained at times. I never notice makeup but this time it was distracting. Merry Mixup is on at weird times for me until late in the month but I hope to catch it then.
I just watched "Christmas Joy" which was a lot more satisfying. The basic plot is the main character tries to take on too much. The ending was too too perfect for the main character but that is practically the point of a Hallmark movie. Pretty decorations, cute clothes for the main character.

Gingerbread Miracle was good. Jon Ecker played his usual understated, charming self and fit the character well. Well done to him for his Hallmark debut. Loved the mixing of Mexican and American cultures. This was one was overall pretty drama-free and leaned into life handing you the right timing to finally get together. Cute, well acted, calm vibes. My main issue is that Netflix is spoiling me with the music selection, higher intensity scenes and overall better quality and production. Between Love Hard and rewatching Holidate (2020), going back to Hallmark's flatter films is a little harsh for this millennial. But I'm hanging in there! Will catch up on another tonight, I think.

I like quite a few of the Netflix Christmas movies better than the Hallmark ones BUT some are a real miss (the Princess Switch series has gone downhill big time) and they release significantly less than Hallmark. Netflix has some great gems from years past to binge, however. Their European Christmas-themed limited series in particular are excellent. Several of us on the board absolutely loved the 2 seasons of Home for Christmas. Last year's Over Christmas was wonderful too. Trailers of some of my personal Netflix Christmas faves:
