EEEEEP, I just saw that Netflix dropped the trailer for A Castle for Christmas! Scotland, Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes. Ding ding ding.

sleepingbooty I'm interested in the Emma Roberts one because she can play a mean person so well! This will be a change.
I don't know if you've seen the TV show The Middle, but Brooke Shields is freaking hilarious. She plays the single mom of 3 boys that are neighborhood terrors and she's a hot mess. Cary Elwes? As you wish.

Watching "Christmas Sail" tonight - Terry O'Quinn and the granddaughter are the best part. The reviews on the app are right, the kiss was terrible and awkward!!
Watched "The Christmas Switch" on GAC Family and "Next Stop, Christmas' on Hallmark over the weekend. Both were pretty good (at least for this year's batch of movies).

Gingerbread Miracle was good. Jon Ecker played his usual understated, charming self and fit the character well. Well done to him for his Hallmark debut. Loved the mixing of Mexican and American cultures. This was one was overall pretty drama-free and leaned into life handing you the right timing to finally get together. Cute, well acted, calm vibes. My main issue is that Netflix is spoiling me with the music selection, higher intensity scenes and overall better quality and production. Between Love Hard and rewatching Holidate (2020), going back to Hallmark's flatter films is a little harsh for this millennial. But I'm hanging in there! Will catch up on another tonight, I think. I really loved Holidate! I feel like the Netflix movies are better, and more interesting for actually watching, but I prefer the Hallmark movies for watching while I’m doing something else, like baking cookies, or wrapping presents. They feel more “Christmasy”.

I am trying hard to keep quiet about what happens in Love Hard but oh em gee, this one was the diggity bomb. Just finished it and I'm still smiling. It was exactly my jam. I do love the fake romance trope but Netflix nailed it with this one. Everything was well executed: the writing, the character development, the cultural references, the colour scheme, the song covers. It was chef's kiss. There's a scene that had me going from laughing out loud to aww-ing out loud. You'll know it when you see it. If you ever hang out in the Becky Higgins thread, you'll immediately recognise the moment I burst out laughing. Booty's rating: love-love-LOVED it, going on the rewatch list, will definitely be played again later this month. sleepingbooty and anyone else who has already seen this movie. This is where I'm at in the movie RIGHT NOW. OMG! 😂 🤣 😂 " "Is the Mormons again!? For the last time we're not converting!

I'm interested in the Emma Roberts one because she can play a mean person so well! This will be a change. She definitely leans into a character that some have qualified as mean-ish in this movie. It's more cynical (and bruised) in my opinion. But ugh, she kills it in Holidate. I think I've seen this movie easily 4 times since it came out last year. 😳 It really hit my sweet spot. I really loved Holidate! I feel like the Netflix movies are better, and more interesting for actually watching, but I prefer the Hallmark movies for watching while I’m doing something else, like baking cookies, or wrapping presents. They feel more “Christmasy”. I totally get what you mean, k10scrapper ! The Netflix Christmas movies are proper sit-down, blanket and snacks movie night experiences. Hallmark's offer is perfect for ironing bed linen and Cyber Monday sales shopping! 😁

Saw "Christmas in Harmony" - it was set in North Carolina. To be honest, I kind of missed the snowy Christmas feel of other Christmas movies. ❄🤷♀️

I'm in the middle of watching Love Hard and agree with you all, it's my perfect Christmas rom com. I actually care about the characters, the storyline makes sense and it's just really funny. Exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks for the recommendation peas! sleepingbooty Holidate was my favourite seasonal movie last year, love me some snarky Emma Roberts. I watched both seasons of Home for Christmas about a month ago. I remembered lots of you gave it a good rap last year. Thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the big reveal at the end. I read somewhere that there will be a third season for Christmas 2022? I'm sure I'll watch many more Hallmark movies while I'm crafting in December, but for now it seems my feet are firmly planted in team Netflix.

I caught Gingerbread Miracle today. It was quite watchable (while crafting) and the cooking scenes made me very hungry. I could kill some of those shrimp tacos! yum.
I wasn't a big fan of Holidate to be honest. I'm not sure why not. And when Netflix emailed me about Love Hard it didn't sound like something I would like at all - I guess I should watch the preview instead of just reading the description. Maybe the catfishing part put me off.
I'll probably save the Netflix movies for December though. I saw Last Christmas at the theater last year in 2019, in the Before Times that I always mistake for last year, and was annoyed that I had to go see it in November or risk missing out (our local theater pulls movies pretty quickly if they're not big sellers). I might re-watch this year.
Did anyone like JGL in the stoner Xmas comedy movie The Night Before (back in 2015). I recall liking it a lot more than I expected considering I'm not generally a fan of stoner comedies. Not sure if it's on Netflix now.

joblackford Love Hard... there were 2 funny parts but I found myself in a different part of the house several times and walking back through the family room with it still playing and not really caring. Haha. That's just me though. I just can't do the Hallmark movies either. The terrible actors walking around with empty coffee cups alone drives me bananas. At least act like there's something in it lol. Sorry peas. I just can't get into them but I still love that it's making so many of you happy and feeling festive! ♥ 🎄

Caught up on Christmas in Harmony. This one was ok. A little too much religion for me but Loretta Devine was, well, divine. She just has a way with words and comedic timing. My favourite relationship in this movie was definitely between the mother (Devine) and the two grown-up daughters. Had to laugh at them drinking rosé in the winter. Not sure exactly how cold it gets where they live but I chuckled nonetheless. The label on the wine bottle was on point. I wouldn't rewatch this one but I still liked it way better than the Danica McKellar, saviour of Christmas trees, movie. The Netflix Nordic elves-themed horror series jenna brought to our attention now has a trailer... I feel like they should've released this a little closer to Halloween, earlier in the month. It's pretty grim. Hey, fellow pandemic folks, who's in the mood for a possible evil elf outbreak from a natural reservoir? (I'm still going to watch.) Most importantly (sorry evil elves, forgive me, please don't attack me on Christmas eve), NETLFIX DROPPED THE SINGLE ALL THE WAY TRAILER! I'm so excited. *hyperventilates* This is probably my most anticipated release of the holiday season...

Aw shit that elves show looks so good to me!! lmao
Watched A Mrs. Miracle Christmas the other night and its up there at the top this year. I hate sad shit in my hallmark movies, and while this was sad.. the funny moments definitely made up for it. Plus Caroline Rhea is hilarious and the woman who played the main girl's nana (she plays a lot of hallmark movie grandmas) had the right about of sass while still being likeable.
Saw parts of christmas sail and gingerbread miracle but I was cleaning and making dinner during them so.. eh, didn't hold my attention enough to push myself to watch again 🤷♀️

Watched Love Hard yesterday and it was AMAZING. Actual laugh out loud funny, the supporting cast was awesome, and I do enjoy a bit more crude humor than your typical syrupy sweet kind of funny Hallmark movie. I put it in the same category as While You Were Sleeping as far as nailing the romance part. I count it as a Christmas movie, so there!

I'm gonna skip the eff out of the evil elves. I can not handle that crap anymore. >.< Looks like our first holiday movie will be tomorrow night. We've been too busy with birthdays and Animal Crossing to start one, but it's about to be on and then there will be no stopping us!

I posted in the DD thread, but sharing here too - I got a notice that YouTubeTV has added the Hallmark Channels, so hooray! I don’t have to add something else to be able to watch now!

I liked Christmas Family Tree tonight. I liked that the romance wasn't the main storyline, I thought the lead actress was cute and the plot actually had some surprises.

Next Stop, Christmas was cute although the cut-scenes to the train were a little rough at times. And unevenly distributed through the movie. I do think Hallmark did this one dirty with the way they edited the trailer/sneak peek. They gave away the romantic plot straight away while I think for the first quarter of the movie, you could easily be lulled into thinking she was going to go the other way (me trying not to spoil it ). I enjoyed the younger leads and the family interactions although I, too, was bothered by how little interest she showed in her lovely "brought back to life" bulldog. I loved the older, seemingly single, living-her-best-life wealthy aunt character. She seemed warm and giving. And she played the Fairy Godmother role perfectly. Booty's rating: Hey, my SO sat through this one and wasn't overly annoyed by the plot holes! I also watched Open by Christmas. While I liked the way the couple found each other, I was a little annoyed by this whole "who sent me this romantic Christmas card back in high school, OMG?" plot. FFS, they're in their 40s. I also thought the side plot with the house (keeping it as vague as possible, again) was given too much airtime and focus in this movie. Although, to be fair, the main plot was on the boring side. Actors played just fine. But the movie as a whole was plain toast. Booty's rating: Appropriate for I-can't-focus-on-anything-today days when you're going to zone out of every other scene. Otherwise, skip unless you like one of the main actors. Not necessarily bad, but also not particularly good.

Not necessarily bad, but also not particularly good. I was trying to figure out why the future MIL had to stay with the best friend character instead of her own son? Or were they living together before marriage, which seems like a very unHallmark like thing to do. Since he knocked on the door when he brought mom over, it seems like he doesn't live there, but wouldn't he be on "come on in" terms if they are about to get married? I didn't like all the tension and conflict in this movie. Best friend fighting with her fiancee, fighting with her friend. Main character clearly resenting her parents for selling the house. And I just wasn't invested in who sent her the 30 year old card, it's clutter, throw it out!

I love Hallmark Christmas movie season, but I’ve noticed they seem more serious this year. I’m wanting to just veg out and forget real life (my dad unexpectedly died about 3 weeks ago), so I sure hope they get a little lighter soon.
