Oh gosh krcrafts, I'm so sorry about your dad! Hugs to you ❤️❤️ I'd definitely stick with the classic cheesiness where the biggest kerfuffle is not knowing if the town Christmas tree will have lights this year and there's multiple almost kisses between the town hunk and random city girl who happens to be stopping into town for the first time in forever.

I love Hallmark Christmas movie season, but I’ve noticed they seem more serious this year. I’m wanting to just veg out and forget real life (my dad unexpectedly died about 3 weeks ago), so I sure hope they get a little lighter soon. Oh, I’m so sorry!😢 Sounds like you definitely will need the more lighthearted movies this season.

krcrafts Much love to you. I'm very sorry for your loss. It does look like Hallmark is being a little more realistic and drama-heavy with their Christmas rom-coms this year. I hope you can find some lighter and happier ones soon!

My Family Christmas Tree leaves me a little whiplashed. While I enjoyed the whole story and the main plot (which wasn't romantic), I'm also baffled by the repeated bad decision made by the main character. It drove me absolutely potty how she could play ostrich like that, especially with young children involved. And being a foster care worker! That was a major textbook no-no. So, I really liked her and her relationship with Christopher but then I got really upset with her. Of course, it's Hallmark, so it all ends well but it was incredibly selfish and emotionally not ok to ignore and hide "the news". The fact that there is a plot twist at the end that brings a very fortunate resolution to the whole mess doesn't make up for her lack of honesty towards the family. I don't know... Maybe it's just me? Andrew Walker killed it, as usual. Even checking the rear-view mirror when fake-driving. Good boy! Booty's rating: It was all going so well until I got really frustrated.

We wondered why Dad wasn't Contacted by the DNA company about the mix up, since he was contacted about the match. Also my first thought was that Ancestry.com missed a great opportunity to be the DNA company in this, run some commercials and plug themselves. But then when it turned out the DNA company was bumbling and incompetent I understood.

krcrafts sorry to hear about your Dad and the unexpectedness of it all. I recently watched Santa Stakeout. I liked it. It's a fake romance where Tamara Mowry-Housely and Paul Campbell are detectives who pretend to be newlyweds so they can stakeout the house next door. Well acted enough, especially by Tamara and Joe Pantoliano. I laughed out loud at the scene where they did the slo-mo squad walk-in dressed as elves. And a flight of hot cocoa? Why am I just hearing about this? I also recently watched most of Coming Home for Christmas where Danica McKellar is a house manager for ultra wealthy people. I thought she was waaay too inserting herself into their lives. And the rich lady says to her, "Go, everyone deserves to be home for Christmas" ... while the cook and "butler" are not too far away, not going anywhere. I did like how both brothers have charms to their personalities but we knew which one she would end up with from the get go.

Has anyone got a quick thumbs up/thumbs down review for M&M's One December Night that aired last Saturday?

I only made it an hour into Santa Stakeout. Life is too short!
My Christmas Family Tree was okay, but I really did not like the plot of this movie.
Next Stop Christmas; I enjoyed this enough I would watch it again.
Open by Christmas; I kept wanting it to get better to feel like I could relate to the characters, understand the story or I guess lack of one?? I figured out the ending really quick, like quicker than your average Hallmark movie.

krcrafts I'm so sorry about losing your dad. My father passed away very suddenly in 2009. It is a different way of grieving and healing. Be kind to yourself.

Oh I’m so sorry for your loss krcrafts I’m sitting on the bench with you about needing lighter movies. I love, love Hallmark Christmas movies. I’ve been watching a long, long time. But I just can’t “do” the movies that are heavy on serious, life altering events such as death of family members, divorce, serious family strife and mean, conniving characters in my Christmas movies. Having one minute happy endings just doesn’t work for me. I haven’t seen a movie yet that I love. This year’s movies have been so disappointing. I’ve been building my own little library of older dvd’s. I hope they are saving the more traditional Hallmark love stories for closer to Christmas.

We've dipped our toes in the holiday movies... "Love Hard" was our first. It was a good choice and I'd re-watch annually. DH recorded "Snow Bride" on Frndly. I lost interest quickly and called it quits. I'll try something new tonight.

I enjoyed Love Hard on Netflix, actually were some LOL moments. I am totally behind on new Hallmark...SO & I agree they are our favorite napping on the couch movies because you watch beginning, fall asleep, then wake up to the predictable ending and haven't really missed anything!

Caught up on One December Night (indeed, from Movies & Mysteries, refugeepea). This one is easy to figure out whether you'll enjoy it or not: if you like the sneak below and find yourself going "why not?", go for it. If not, don't. The sneak properly sets the tone for the entire movie. I mostly jumped in because I like Peter Gallagher and hadn't seen him in anything for a couple of years. Had a good time but definitely not going on the rewatch list. Yes, it's a Simon & Garfunkel-esque duo reuniting - or (un?)willingly trying to - for a televised Christmas concert. Yes, the romance story is yet another side plot (Hallmark's go-to this year, it seems). Yes, it comes with some trigger warnings: alcoholism and Alzheimer's.

I don't think I liked it much the first time I watched, a little too OTT trying to be funny, but it grew on me with re-watchings. Most of the movies I like weren't great the first time. I don't know if it's just because I switch them on midway through for the 6th time and they seem familiar... But Tim-the-Toolman-Taylor's wife's character, the mom, turns out to be quite cool in Snow Bride which I enjoyed. I might suggest Love Hard to my SIL for Thanksgiving. I finally watched the trailer and it does look like a lot of fun. And we're all for the Asian dude getting the girl for a change.

SNOW BRIDE IS INCREEEEDIBLE! *hikes up that hill to die on* It is delightfully silly beginning to end. One of my top 5 forever Hallmark Christmas movies. You've got to give it another go, dawnnikol. Maybe with a glass of wine? It is gloriously ridiculous and I stand by it. The actors all play their roles really well, too. Plus, it's got Bobby Campo. It is 8 years old now so the general style of holiday rom-coms has changed since but Snow Bride is one of the few that really stands the test of time. There's a reason Hallmark play this one every year. Greta Kainablesteinski forever!

Alright, joblackford and sleepingbooty, I'll give it another go. DH actually enjoyed the bits we did watch because he recognized Katrina Law as being Nyssa al Ghul from "Arrow". Tom Lenk with that mustache though... good gravy. Almost makes me wish Willow would've caught him, too.

You just need a little nudge towards the utter silliness mindset and you're there... Wine, beer, specially gummy bears, whatever floats your boat (and is legal-ish where you live), friend. Reminder for everyone that this weekend is the Susan + Mike reunion movie! Sunday night on the Hallmark Channel. Can't wait to sail the pirate seas to go find this one.

I think I need an intervention. In Canada, the Hallmark Movies are on the W Network channels. All day, every day. So I’m getting to catch up on some older ones as well. I have PVRed and many more set up to record.
I also downloaded Love Hard onto my phone to watch when I get my hair dyed today.
Help me. 😂
