I hope that his victims sue him and his mom for millions. Then get a legal team to make their lives miserable for decades. I hope he gets ridiculed in public and needs to go into hiding for years, but with today's world, he's going to be on Fox and have top level jobs that someone made up for him. Oh, right, Gaetz. Jennifer People think he will be able to sue the media for defamation. I wondered what the media reported that was defamed. |

More common has been a refrain that Rittenhouse has been a victim of media hysteria like others before him. Kirk pointed to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Nick Sandmann, the Kentucky teen falsely accused of trying to intimidate a Native American drummer at the Lincoln Memorial, as similar cases of media “smear jobs.”
Sandmann’s case, in particular, looks instructive for Rittenhouse. He sued CNN and The Washington Post for defamation and became a cause célèbre on the right for it. The lawsuits were settled and Sandmann was eventually invited to speak at the 2020 Republican National Convention, where he warned about “cancel culture.” In the days before the Rittenhouse verdict, he penned a Daily Mail op-ed in which he encouraged the 18-year-old to sue for defamation. “Give it a shot and hold the media accountable,” Sandmann wrote.
The right wing media gets to portray him as a victim/ hero and mainstream media gets sued for more accurate reporting. We are truly doomed. |

Living in Kenosha Co, when this happened, when He happened, was one of the most disheartening periods of my life. People showed themselves as who they really are. People I grew up with and thought I knew sided with him, said so many hateful and racist things (of course simultaneously claiming "not racist") and we're ready to "lock and load". So I'm not sure about him being ridiculed by the rural folk around here. Hell, I ain't sure about much anymore. |

The jury spoke. It was their decision. Not mine, not yours, theirs. The two men killed were not without fault. Per the jury. What about the reporter then? There were other people he endangered and the directions explicitly mentioned that. The jury ignored it. The jury spoke and they got it wrong. I’d love to see the jury how they explain ignoring the provocation clause that was clearly in the instructions. I’d also love to hear the jury explain the lack of conviction on some of the lower charges. The only answer we have today is that they ignored the law and we don’t know the reason. I have my reasoning but I certainly hope they speak out to explain their interpretation of the law because it doesn’t make sense. The jury didn’t ignore any of these. |
