We're about 2/3 of the way through month one - how is everyone doing? Off to a rousing start or still hunting for elusive free time or mojo? Just a couple of reminders. Virtual cropping is a great way to get to know other refupeas - and you earn 10pt/hr for cropping with others. Check out the schedule in the virtual crop schedule thread 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/126009/virtual-crop-schedule-2022-hostingAnd watch for pop-up crops - there was one today and another is planned for next Wednesday. Even if you can't commit to the whole 2, 3, 4 hours, you can always pop in and say hi. None of them at a good time for you? Get some unexpected scrappy time and want to see if others want to join you? Consider hosting a pop-up crop for an hour or more. I've been told it's really very easy to do. Don't forget that the POTW and Sketchy Saturday prompts are on the Gen. Scrapping board not the challenge board. There are also challenges on the card board, I believe. And there's a sticky master challenge list if you need extra inspiration Also - I strongly urge you to keep track of points as they are earnt - either with the spreadsheet or manually. One time I didn't and oh my was it a project to pull them together at the end. If you have points questions - let me know. If I don't have the answer, I'll get it for you.

the plastic envelopes hold my scraps....and one tired grey kitten So cute! We're about 2/3 of the way through month one - how is everyone doing? Off to a rousing start or still hunting for elusive free time or mojo? I'm having a pretty good month of creating so far, I've already made 8 layouts and have another one nearly finished on my desk. I often start the year with a big bang, full of motivation and mojo, and try to make the most of those days that are too hot to get out and do much.

I'm almost finished my first layout in 2 months! It was hard. Not natural at all. I really did enjoy the cardmaking over December, and the calendar making was very different from a layout as well.
I would like to spend more time making cards BUT the process and design is SO different from layouts, I struggle to flip back and forth! I need to focus on layouts for a while and get into the groove.

kitbop - I often find that first layout after a hiatus is hard -but the next one is usually easier. Hopefully your next one will be also

Awww Linda Dusty is such a cutie. And just like a kid, can fall asleep in the most uncomfortable looking places lol. My mojo has been hit or miss. I'm working on my DD and it's slow going. I'm doing 6X8 and it's hard to adjust to a much smaller size although I think I'll enjoy that size once it's all said and done. I also need to print photos for other projects and that is always an obstacle as I will keep putting it off. No DGS this weekend so I'm hoping for a quiet weekend of scrapping and football.

yes- Dusty picks the funniest spots to sleep. It's been cold here lately (Florida cold but even so) and he's been crawling under my covers at night and snuggling in. Hoping you get to scrap this weekend joyfulnana - will you be joining any of the crops? I probably won't - Saturday is DH's birthday and he has projects planned all weekend (that he keeps putting off - and if I'm too busy, he'll use that as an excuse to postpone them again).

DH has been after me to not be in my craft room in the evening, which is usually the time I have to get crafty, as I like to have all my chores done first! Oh well . . . I have been card making like crazy. Two different sheetloads, and 7 other cards this month.
Our exciting news is we are buying a teeny tiny lake cabin 1670 miles from our actual home. We plan on eventually moving to that area to retire perhaps and it is part of an association that covers water, electricity, landscaping, and boat dock upkeep. But that means we will spend about half the summer there . . . and it is about a 33 hour drive there and then back again. So I am trying to get ahead with my DT assignments, like way ahead. I have the first 3 1/2 months done for one team (7 cards) now need to work my Imagine DT projects. Want to get all the way through Sept maybe, that way all my pressure is off for those commitments.
Subbing a lot, as if I do 10 days I will get a $500 bonus which adds up to about $6+ extra dollars per hour. I'm very close this month. Not possible in Nov or Dec because of travel and illness. So going for it this month so I can help pay for some of the new items we want for the cabin.

Whoa angel97701, that's a heck of a drive! We were thinking about buying a cabin near Lake Tahoe but that's a 4 hour drive without traffic and we decided that was too far. We had a lovely camping weekend last weekend, it was beautiful weather (mid-60's during the day, upper 30's/low 40's at night). This week we've been playing catch up on laundry and trying to get my 6 year old to keep her mask over her nose at school. I joined the midweek crop on Wednesday this week and got a couple of pages done in a mini album I've had since 2012! I got all my photos from Persnickety and they look pretty good, now I have to get them organized and figure out what I'm going to do with them all. Hope you all have a great weekend! We have no plans so hopefully I'll get some scrapping in. What is everyone else up to?

Just posted my first layout for the team on the Jan. 15 Sketchy Saturday thread. Had fun tallying the points but I think my time might be better spent scrapping!
So glad it's Saturday!

I probably won't - Saturday is DH's birthday and he has projects planned all weekend (that he keeps putting off - and if I'm too busy, he'll use that as an excuse to postpone them again). OK, I had LOL at your DH because that sounds like me. I have plenty of projects around here I would like to get to, but I'll put them off for scrapping or the kids, or any reason I can come up with lol. Whoa angel97701 33 hours? I would dread that drive all the time. But if you are spending a good chunk of the summer there, it could be worth it. yay anniebeth! Counting points isn't fun, but you can always do the easy peasy way. I start out counting them all but when it's time to tally, I just give in and do easy peasy lol. I'm still plodding along with my DD. This is the first year I've actually done the album and I'm determined to get it finished. I may have to set it aside next month for 28-4-28 though. I'm hosting a crop today if anyone wants to join!

anniebeth24- point tallying can take a bit of time if you're doing it old-school - easy peasy is well ... quick and easy. You can always switch back and forth depending on whether you want to take the extra time or not. joyfulnana - Dh managed lots of TV and napping this weekend but did get one box emptied and dealt with and installed my pull-out for pot lids and we did do recycling and flu shots...Probably not what he originally had on the list but...it'll get done when it gets done. I didn't manage to hop on your crop - sorry. Hopefully next time. Good luck with the DD - this year was only my 2nd (I did 2019 also but not 2020)

Hello all. My Dad is in the final stages of Alzheimer’s. He became unresponsive on Friday. I choose to drive over and spend time with my parents. We are waiting for hospice to come tomorrow to give us some information on what to expect. I’m here to help Mom and talk to Dad as he passes into the Glory of his Savior.

We have a public holiday today and it's meant to be mid 30's again today so I'm hanging out in the cool and planning to work on some pages. I'm having an incredibly productive month and trying to make the most of it while the motivation lasts.

I was asked an interesting question during today's pop-up crop about whether I like doing journalling and whether I do a lot of it.
I don't do as much journalling as I should but lately I've been trying to do more. I think inspired in part by reading the stories my mum left us - handwritten memories, often of stories she didn't actually tell us. So as I've been scrapping my last visit to mum, I've been trying to journal about my feelings - it's not easy journalling but I think it's been helpful to get those thoughts and words written down. I don't think of myself as a writer any more than I think of myself as an artist but my girls (one of whom is a writer and the other an artist) have both assured me that I am a writer even though I focus mostly on non-fiction/memoirs and an artist through my scrapbooks.
So do YOU journal? Why? or why not?

I don't think of myself as a writer any more than I think of myself as an artist but my girls (one of whom is a writer and the other an artist) have both assured me that I am a writer even though I focus mostly on non-fiction/memoirs and an artist through my scrapbooks. I agree with your girls, you are absolutely a writer and an artist. I know I'm guilty of having an idea of what a writer or an artist is, and scrapbooking don't fit into that narrow definition. Instead of hanging our art in galleries or publishing our stories in books, we share our work online and with our families. So do YOU journal? Why? or why not? I most definitely journal. My biggest problem is I often don't have enough space for all the words I want to include so I have to edit my writing to find more concise ways to say what I want, or include pockets and envelopes, and occasionally a 6x12 insert, to fit all the words in. I have always loved writing so it's an enjoyable part of the process for me. On my travel pages I want to include a mix of history about the place as well as my thoughts or reactions to it, which I attribute in part to my love of history (I did a double major in English and History in my degree). I think the other reason the words are so important to me stems from a moment I shared with my Dad. We had a pile of photos from his childhood and Dad was randomly pulling out photos and telling me who was in them, or where they were taken, and the memories they sparked. There was one he pulled out that showed his family standing in front of their car. Dad told me how his father had purchased the car from a friend, how it had been painted yellow and coral, and how it was the fanciest car they had owned because it had a radio in it. I can see several threads in my Dad's life that are present in this story and they are all details I would never have known from looking at a black & white photo. I don't think every page needs a big story, sometimes I just want to scrap a cute photo of my cat, but I feel like my page is incomplete if there is no journaling.

Hi, y'all! It has been a bit crazy around here and I'm just not checking in. I have been busy with my new hobby/business, and I've been taking care of my mom off and on due to her hurting her back a couple weeks ago. I have been scrapping 25+ years. I started with the kraft paper albums back in 1992(ish). I worked for KI Memories for 7 1/2 years back in the early-mid 2000's. I've been on a couple of store and website DT's, most recently being part of the Paper Issues DT from July-Dec 2021. I have mostly scrapped 12x12. I have tried both 8.5x11 and digital, and they are just not for me. My new hobby/business is designing and creating polymer clay earrings and keychains. I started that in July, and have been doing pretty well! So, all of that going on, I have only gotten 4 LO's done so far this month. I've used a few of the Paper Issues January sketches for those LO's. Going to post them now! Thanks for being our leader, linda !

I journal a little on every page. Scrapbooking is still about capturing memories to me, not just the art. I struggle when the memories get redundant. Eg. We love camping. We love this part, we love that part. Same as last year, new pictures. I find it hard to find new feelings because we're all the same people and truthfully it doesn't change much! It's part of why we love it - it's COMFORTABLE. Same with Christmas. I feel like I've covered all the bits and pieces about Christmas feelings and traditions now, and don't want to write about them again! Hi KikiPea! You did see that you can claim 10 points/crafty hour...which will include your clay work, right? Glad that's going well for you!

it's good to see you again KikiPea - you do sound busy but do pop in now and then as you can. And yes, as kitbop mentioned, count points for ALL your crafty work not just papercrafts. kitbop - I struggle with the sameness also and I'm not very good at sharing feelings/emotions, I'm more of a who/what/where/when journaller and even why is a bit more elusive. I am trying to deep a little deeper though

So do YOU journal? Why? or why not? I am sorry I am so absent. I seem to have a hard time keeping up with this thread, the sharing thread, Pokey Peas, and still doing some scrapping. I promise I am not just ignoring you. Linda , great questions. Journaling is important to me. I want more than the photo on the page. I look through my mother's albums and see only names under photos, with no story to tell about what was actually happening. I don't journal extensively on every page, but I try to include some details. I have a hard time journaling on pages with photos that are given to me by family members that I seldom see. I have just finished a layout with lots of journaling. I wanted to tell the story of my grandson's visit to the Giving Machines but had no photo to go with it. I had room on the page of our visit so I just included his story. He didn't go with us, but his story is included on our page. I felt it was important to get his story told and include his quote. So, I guess my journaling varies with each page.

nylene - no worries abour not posting here - the thread is for those who want to chat or need encouragement but getting creative trumps chatting. Some of my mum's photos have names or a couple of words but so so many of them- nothing - no names, no dates, no places. I'm slowly trying to label as many as I can but it's slow going and some will never be able to be identified. I love that you included your grandson's memories on your page - that's awesome! I do have a harder time journalling the photos the older kids send - I tend to steal quote fromn the FB messages or text them for context but it can be hit or miss on whether they respond.

Cold here in Central Pennsylvania! The day started out at -4 F. I enjoyed reading about your lives and thoughts about journaling. Thanks for sharing. I finished my valentines and posted most of them on the sharing thread. I'm the Sunday 28-4-28 hostess so I got my first three example layouts done this week, but of course you won't see them until February. I made my step grandson's birthday card today, so that leaves two more birthday cards. One is for Feb. 3 and I'm fresh out of inspiration for that person. I pulled out some stamp sets so maybe creativity will strike. My daughter is looking forward to the virtual prom event next weekend - it's mostly outdoors from 5pm to 7 pm. Can you imagine? Hope it isn't too freezing and she can have a bit of fun.
