I can't get over the fact that someone claims to have invested two hours of their life listening to someone who they think has dementia and is incoherent. And, someone they don't agree with on anything anyway. Wouldn't it be a lot more efficient to listen to 5 minutes of Fox with carefully edited fragments that make Biden sound like an idiot? Oh, wait... Exactly what I was thinking. What I noticed about her faux sympathy for that poor man whose handlers are taking such terrible care of him and allowing him to humiliate himself in public with his obvious dementia (/end sarcasm) is that it’s almost word-for-word what the right-wing morons on my NextDoor spout every time he makes a public appearance. All the “concern” for his disabilities and shock (shock, I tell you!) that his wife allows him to keep speaking. It’s all nonsense and BS, and obviously it comes straight from the talking heads at Fox or worse. He’s not a world-class speaker, but he’s a good man, a kind man, a competent man, a hard-working man who cares about people and respects the rule of law. He is 10 times the leader and 100 times the man that Trump is. And yes, cindosha , Trump is living rent-free in my head, kinda like Adolf Hitler is, and the KKK, and that wackadoo in North Korea. I’d love to not have to worry about any of them. Sing it. This has been going on since the campaign. So much wringing of hands over the “heartbreak” of Joe Biden being yanked from his bedroom, muttering, and forced to speak in public. A jovial Bertha Rochester. Heartbreaking. Disgusting. Unforgivable. Sad. Cruel. So hard to watch. How could they? When will this embarrassing abuse end? It’s overused to the point of triteness. Faux compassion within an ideological compassion vacuum … including this very OP who has demonstrated overt callousness towards others’ well-being of late - and is, clearly, trolling for reactions. (Total tangent, but here’s a reaction that will go against the thread grain: Barack Obama could be long-winded, circuitous and wonky. “Look, … ” was usually the jumping off point.)

He is so incoherent that it’s making me squirm!! The US spent 1 trillion$ a week in Afghanistan for the last 20 years? ? OMG!! This is so hard to hear. He needs to be done with this speech. NOW! The longer he talks the less sense he makes. This is is referring to the second part of your quote, but I quoted it all. I switched the TV on and he was saying something that sounded to me like, "I’m going to wrap it up now," so I went and watched a DVR recording of “This Is Us," stopped it when I made dinner and fed all animals, finished it, and when I switched back to CNN he was still talking! EDIT: I have very different political leanings than you apparently do—my point is that it was long AF. I agree-too long. There are so many issues to talk about, but my preference is always for shorter speeches/question time.

It’s old, and the irony of Trump supporters claiming that Joe has dementia is…gob smacking. Look, the man has never, ever been a great speaker. The conference went in too long. So what? If he had a shorter press conference, there would have been complaints about that. And I, for one, do not miss the insults that TFG used to lob at reporters every time they asked a question that he didn’t like.

I have a hard time taking someone seriously when they didn’t criticize trump for what they are now accusing Biden of. I have been working and couldn’t watch the speech, but in general Biden is not always a great speaker. That being said, even if it was Obama I am sure the OP would be complaining. Snort. 😂 Wanna comment on McConnell’s racist presser yesterday?

I like this tangent. I cringe a little when people talk about President Obama’s speaking ability. Starting his answers with his dismissive “look” raised my blood pressure. I truly couldn’t listen to him for more than a few minutes. He always seemed like he was lecturing and he was very disappointed in me (“young lady” :finger wag:). BUT, I knew that was my perception and could look past it and understand the substance of what he was saying.

And I, for one, do not miss the insults that TFG used to lob at reporters every time they asked a question that he didn’t like. Yes. I remember just a few months ago a lot of complaints because the right thought that Biden didn’t answer enough press questions. Which is it? Are they mad/concerned because he is forced to speak and he goes on too long, or because he doesn’t speak enough? On a tangent here, some of my right wing friends are outraged at the 4 free COVID tests being sent to anyone who asks/signs up. They think it is a waste of money. My reaction is that Biden can’t win - either he hasn’t done enough to ramp up testing and make it available or he IS actually making available to everyone who can access a computer and has a home address. It is literally not possible - in their heads - for him to do anything right in any area. No, he isn’t the best public speaker. Was the speech FOLLOWED by a press conference too long? Yes. However, do I think he has dementia? No. When I read the OP and who it was by, my first thought was that she must be having a rotten day and needed a place to come “kick the proverbial dog” as it were. I can’t figure out any other motive, as she clearly doesn’t like anyone here and doesn’t receive any positives from the board (unless she also has an alter) save from using us as a place to vent anger and frustration at the liberals.

BUT, I knew that was my perception and could look past it and understand the substance of what he was saying. Let’s continue the thread’s public speaking hijack! Beats jello salad pictures. LOL. [Non-Americans, please add your own home-growns.] Yep, I agree that perception often needs to be resisted in favor of substance. And it’s fun to dissect. I’m always puzzled by the communication accolades heaped on Reagan. I found his folksiness and charisma practiced to the point of patronizing, but he did get his point across. Bill Clinton pulled it of better, especially with the one-two punch of charisma and extemporaneous fact-spewing, but the “Aw, shucks” schtick still grated. Absent perfection, I’m happy with any Smartest Guy in the Room style. Policy-wonk-cum-professor. Obama, Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg. Of course, there’s that pesky Woman Problem: intelligence, forcefulness and encyclopedic policy knowledge are perceived as so very unlikable. And snarky. And shrill. Having a superior brain and not having an adam’s apple are as damaging as not having a penis.

You can bring up Trump, McConnell, Kimberly Guilfoyle, ice cream and sprinkles, etc. all you want. It's not hiding that there's a shitshow going on now with Biden. You do earn an A+ at deflection though.

So as not to aid in a nearly 100 post existing thread being possibly deflected.

Could be that he meant “as all American voters.” Hard to know if it was a mistake or an egregious dog whistle. I’d like to think that when someone’s in a position like he is, when speaking —especially in regards to race (as the question was) that one wouldn’t make gaffes like that—subconsciously or mistakenly.

The trouble is, when she relies on Fox News for information, she only gets the gaffe, not the immediate self-correction. They’re not going to let a little thing like accuracy get in the way of a good narrative, though.

The irony of conservatives criticizing Biden’s ability to speak and answer questions, when they completely ignored the fact that the previous President, a conservative, was a poor speaker whose speeches and answers to questions contained a high fiber amount of word salad.

If Joe Biden had of pronounced Thailand as Thigh-land, people like the OP would’ve seized on that as conclusive proof of dementia. Given a repeated documented history of callousness and indifference to others displayed we’re supposed to buy that she was ‘just concerned’ about his welfare. So transparently fake. Ugh.

I believe that the problem lies where some people on here understand the word salad. It seems to be their language. But when an intelligent and compassionate person is speaking, it's difficult for said people to understand. Then it becomes incoherent to them. That's my theory anyway.

My theory is that he reads so exceedingly rarely, that he’s just not familiar with how words like this look in their written form, and he instinctively pronounced it as the word looked. Like you would when you first learn to read words you’ve only ever said. But that’s just my theory.
