I am getting back into stamping and when watching videos I notice that many people are using the Misti. It is on sale at a local store. I am tempted to get it now due to the price, but also feel like I have spent a lot of money on things so far and want to know that I will for sure get use out of it before buying. How much does it help with stamping? Is it a must-have or a wait-and-see item? If it is a must-have, which size?

Stamp platforms are great. I have the Misti and a Tim Holtz one. My first Misti broke easily and I replaced it and now I really don't use it much since I think it will happen again. The person who creates the Misti didn't care that the thing was a month old. I much prefer the Tim Holtz one anyway, but still got a new one since my LSS had them on sale several years ago.

I have the Misti and have for years. I rarely use it. With that said, I made 8 cards today, and used the Misti on 6 of them. Just worked out that it was better to use the Misti then mess up and not be able to fix it or use the card. It's a good thing to have on hand if you can get it on sale, and have extra funds to use.

I’m primarily a pocket scrapbooker, but I do stamp. I have both sizes of the Tim Holtz stamp platform. I don’t really use either one. Maybe I am not seeing it’s full potential. It just feels like a hassle to get it out and use it. It’s definitely a tool I thought I would use but haven’t. It seems like it would be very useful for card makers. I can see using it a lot for mass production of cards or buildable stamps. Buy it on sale.

In my opinion a stamping platform type tool is a must if you are a stamper.

I have a mini-Misti and I use it a lot. I am primarily a pocket page scrapbooker. Laura Wonsik has the regular size Misti and she uses it a lot in her videos.

I have a TH full size and a TH Mini. Also a homemade platform. I won't buy a MISTI due to the way the owner has treated people.

I think the We R Memory Keepers stamping tool (Precision Press) is good plus you can buy an additional stamping block which is nice for projects or when you make several of the same cards.
I won’t buy the Misti due to …well, the owner.

I have the TH version and really like it. I am getting back into stamping for both pocket page cards and cards so I figured it was a good investment. Not used a lot but when I use it, it comes in handy!

I have a regular misti that I got at the very beginning before she was unbearable. I also have the teal blatant misti ripoff that I got at Michaels before they had to stop selling them. It’s a “mini” size and I use it on every card. I also have a TH platform but I’ve never used it.

I have the Tim Holtz full size one, and it changed my stamping/card making game entirely. Much less waste. Better images. No crooked sentiments I won't get a Misti due to the owner. So many new stamps have layering images and that is much much easier with a stamp platform. There is a new Altenew stamp platform coming out later this year - it has a thread dedicated to it this week if you want to see the video of how it works! I'm saving my money for one. This is an excellent review of different stamp platforms and she put it out only a week or so ago!!! If you are just getting back into the hobby, she has a lot of really good comparison/hack videos, and reviews of items you can get cheaper through amazon and the dollar store and the like. I trust her because her opinion has closely followed what I have discovered on my own and what our fellow peas have echoed too. www.youtube.com/watch?v=m20ueqQbSUQ

I also have a Tim Holtz mini. I think it's great for three things:
1. Making multiples of a card so everything is the same. 2. Being able to re-stamp images I want to color so that the lines are good and solid. 3. Being able to re-stamp sentiments so the ink is good and solid.
What I don't like is the idea that you can stamp anywhere. Yes, you CAN, but I can do that with a block. The positioner works best for me when I'm able to line the paper up in the corner. The magnets don't hold the paper, ever-- it pulls out of alignment with every stamp. The stamps are, by their nature, sticky, so I get it, but the only way to get a solid RE-impression is if your paper is in the exact spot every.single.time. I can't do that without the corner.
And my main tip for one is: if you're seated at your work station and you're having a heck of a time getting a good image no matter how many times you use the positioner... stand up and stamp. Feels like the same pressure to me, but standing up nearly always fixes whatever isn't working when I'm seated.

I'm in a wheelchair, and having a stamp positioner has been a game changer for me. I refuse to get a MISTI because I can't with the owner. I just refuse to support her.
I have two platforms, Stampin Up & Hampton Arts. The SU one is terrific; you can move the plates up or down for staggered stamping. The Hampton Arts one is no longer on the market due to a legal challenge from the MISTI lady. I will grant her that the Hampton Arts one really did look like a full blown copy of the MISTI.

I make one off cards, but do a lot of stamping for my PL. I'm not sure how that device would help me? However, I do know based on all the MISTI drama, I wouldn't purchase *that* company's tool.

I have a TH full size and a TH Mini. Also a homemade platform. I won't buy a MISTI due to the way the owner has treated people. Same here, even though they are made by another company now, so she still gets a commission on every sale (just not as much as she did when she made them herself). One possible reason you see them being used constantly on YouTube is that the big names presumably have an agreement with her. There are other stamp platforms out there. Stampin’Up sells one, and it has a unique feature that is useful for Altenew stamps and others that create a fully colored image with coordinating stamps. It also has movable plates so that you can create a stamped row using border stamps, to create a background pattern. I have it, but they are being sued by her, so the time may come when I can’t get additional replacement parts. I mainly use it for the multi-step stamping. I love my stamp platforms from Tim Holtz and Stampin’ Up. I keep my mini Tim out on my desk all the time and use it every time I stamp. It’s not just for mass production of cards. It helps with perfect placement, and if you want to stamp more than once to get the image darker. I rarely get enough ink on my stamp the first time, no matter how much I ink it up. Plus, the stamp platform gives a better overall stamp, rather than more ink on one side but less on the other side of the stamped image. If it is on sale at your LSS for a good price, I won’t judge you for buying it. A stamp platform is very helpful for stampers. Unfortunately, hers just is the only one easily available in the US because she sued every competitor till they buckled. Stampin’ Up was the only one resisting, and they might have given up, too. I haven’t been watching that scene lately.

Feels like the same pressure to me, but standing up nearly always fixes whatever isn't working when I'm seated. Agree - and it’s recommended that the card be butted up into a corner, whether a Misti, Tim Holtz tonic, etc. so not really a fault, part of usage instructions. I have a Misti and Tim Holtz small and regular platforms. I really don’t use the larger one. I had several other brands (because I’m a tool junky) but donated them. I can’t imagine stamping without one, especially for larger, detailed images that might need to be pressed down or inked and stamped twice. (I do still use blocks too.) If you want a smaller Tim Holtz platform, they’re occasionally on Amazon. UK suppliers sometimes ship to the U.S. and shipping prices aren’t necessarily high. U.S. suppliers aren’t allowed to sell them. Occasionally there are sales on the Misti. As you can tell, the owner of the Misti is disliked by many, including me, for good reason, but I can’t argue that it isn’t a good tool, even though she wasn’t the first to make a platform.

I love mine but I got the big one. I can stamp up to a 12X12 sheet of paper. Which I do often cause then I use my Scan N Cut to cut out the stamped images. Just used it yesterday while making cards

I had a Misti when I first started stamping and I sold it. I didn't care for how it worked. I bought the TH large and travel size platform and love them! Super easy to use and I just keep them out on my desks. I've seen the big TH platform for 40.00 off of Amazon and shipping is free from the UK. Tonic is based in the UK so they can still sell out of the UK and ship to the USA. That's all I know!

I have the TH and a small WRMK one. I use the WRMK often in lieu of a block, but really like the TH for more intricate designs and making multiples. I was able to get a good deal on Amazon for the TH from a UK site (free shipping too), as mentioned above. I guess I would watch reviews to see if you would actually prefer the MISTI, because you might like TH better--you can still get them from time to time from the UK.

I have a mini misti and a stampin up stamparatus. Love them both. Stamperatus for "larger" stamps or scrapbooking and the mini for smaller stamps. Really like that if I don't get a good impression the first time it is easy to stamp again.

I agree a stamp platform is a must have - particularly if you're making multiple cards and for easy lining up. I use mine almost every time I craft.

"Do I need a Misti." As others have said, you need a stamping platform. I just want you to know there are many much better, for much less. Take a Google trip.

I have both of the TH platforms and use them both. Having a platform is a game changer for me. I don't have a level table so my stamping was never sharp or fully stamped. And using the platform, you can restamp as many times as you want to get a better result.

I'm a little late to the game...does anyone want to elaborate on the drama with the Misti owner? Some of the early MISTIs cracked, and stampers here complained that she refused to replace them. Because of this, people gave their opinions, and many started thinking about trying to make their own. Don showed his home made version, and she showed up on the board and demanded that he remove the photo, or he would hear from her lawyer. Her hinge stamp platform was essentially an adaptation of a hinged letterpress, which stampers have used for years, but she somehow got a patent. The manufacturers of other stamp platforms had some creative, significant differences from hers, (in my opinion, at least as much of a difference as her platform was from the letterpress). She sued all her competition. Most agreed to settle rather than keep racking up legal fees. Last I heard, Stampin’ Up was the only one still fighting her lawsuit against them. I assume they hoped to get her patent overturned in court. I don’t know the outcome, or if it is still ongoing. I found the original main MISTI thread. It’s 17 pages long. Don’s posting of his home made version and her response to that actually came before complaints were posted about her refusing to replace MISTIs which cracked. Link to MISTI controversy
