Wow. That was a HUGE MONUMENTAL disappointment. Just caught up on the “past” kit and was wondering if it is full of items that didn’t sell in past kits and that’s where it got its name from? I too was totally on board with the idea of a new/second album and project documenting christmases past and Christmas traditions for my family in addition to my existing dd project. As in spending more money to buy more products to do so. I was hoping that this was the first time I’d have a kit that I loved so I could get a cohesive look instead of just using stash items. But nope. I feel exactly like this. I had no problem spending money on a second album this year based on the concept of documenting "past" Christmases. I was even looking through old photos to see what I had to get me excited. But this kit doesn't feel like a "past" album. I feel like this is just generic Christmas. I wanted more prompt based embellishments. Even some stuff that felt vintage. I feel like I should buy some Tim Holtz stuff to make a "past" album, so it has more of a vintage feel. I was hoping for more of the ae “pieces of the past” vibe but Christmas based… hell you could even have a themed notebook in the series called pieces of Christmas and a matching stamp etc and I’d be all over that like a bad smell….

"We will not be offering any of the pieces of this kit as separate shop items." I bet you will. In 2023. In the shop's Sales section. Feeling snarky. When I saw the black word strips, I immediately thought I could kind of recreate the look with my Dymo labeler. I haven't seen them but I'm sure you could. Either old school embossed labels if you like the texture or new fangled label printers. Vicki P has been sharing art journal pages with label printed sentiments (she's using white with black print) that she adds some doodle outlines to and they look totally awesome. Or check out the options for cardmakers that SSS and Paper Rose and other companies offer. They're usually foilable but they look great just left black. Some might work for scrapping as well as cards. I've enjoyed using Tim Holtz small talk/chit chat labels too if they still sell those. Gosh, you could even do handwritten labels on black cardstock using chalk markers. There are so many options, I can't imagine that the AE ones are all that special.

But nope. Where are the tree paper clips Pam uses, where are the crisp whites? Where are the simple but effective designs? Where are the journaling prompts that have anything to do with documenting past Christmases or memories or important traditions? Where are the small assortments of ribbons or fibres to use on those tags? This just looks like a normal small dd kit with a cream and peach album. I’ll pick up individual items in the sales next year. I hate being such a negative ninny but I was sooo excited for this concept, this is probably the only year I can afford to get a second kit, and so I am sooo disappointed Just finished watching the IG replay and was also really disappointed in this kit. I had envisioned a Christmas version of the Pieces of the Past collection, and this is more like a December Daily Basics kit. In fact, once I stopped thinking that the kit should be about the past, I liked it better. Perfect to pick up if you just want some basics to round out your stash (esp if you like to use red, black, and gold in your albums). But this kit will be a pass for me (more money to spend a la carte ) I picked up the 10x8 album last year (the one with the Night Before Christmas quote) to use as my Stories of Christmas Past album because that story was a big part of our yearly traditions. Luckily I picked up several retro items and stamp sets to use, so will just continue with what I already have in my stash. I do like that 6x8 circle sentiment stamp set, however, and predict it will sell out. I will pick that up for sure, it will work well with the album (Ali’s handwriting) and the icons are also cute. (I was intrigued when Ali mentioned the squirrel when Lisa talked about the animal icons making an appearance in other parts of the collection). I like that the JOY album has cream lettering on the front instead of white, it would work well if someone is using a cream-based Christmas collection. But if I get a new DD album this year, it will be the Liz floral album

During the Live someone asked if Pam would be teaching a class to go along with the kit. Ali said there won’t be a class, but they’re working on something specifically related to the kit but aren’t ready to share yet. 🤷🏻♀️

I spent a good hour and a half reading all 304 posts in this thread. I got the Elle's Studio email the other day because I am a subscriber and I thought the DD kit looked so good this year.
Last year was my first December daily project and I enjoyed it immensely. But being that I've had something of a scrapbooking block for the past several months I was unclear on whether I wanted to even buy any products this year for the project. Chloe and Jeremy talked me into buying the kit I want and they both reassured me that if it got to December and I just wasn't feeling it, that I could pack my supplies away for 2023.
Like I said, I had a really good time with this project last year. Here's hoping this is a project that will help pull me out of my rut and let me end 2022 on a scrapbooking high note.

I watch a few minutes of the DD past kit and had to stop. I agree - a huge disappointment. Looks a bit like they found some old stuff sitting around in the warehouse that got missed in the previous sales. Just weird.

I felt this way in 2020. I was just so mad about everything. But I knew I loved working on the project so I bought the stuff that I liked and pushed through. I went with 3X8 because I figured it would be less space to fill (I don't recommend that size for DD, never again). After the first couple of spreads I really got into it. Now I'm so glad I did it.

Charwee Thanks for the reminder about shopping from the UK! If, by chance, you plan on keeping an eye on the Elle's Studio Christmas release arrival at Hello Little Magpie, could you tag me when it comes in? September will be a bit busy for me work-wise and I'm not sure I'll remember to check HLM every day (if not, that's totally ok). There are two things I totally would buy from this release. PSA: Paislee Press/Liz Tamanaha fans, her ENTIRE DIGITAL STORE is 30% off this weekend (like the rest of The Lilypad) so you have a few more hours to shop if you're interested. Here's the direct access to her Document Your December products.

Hallmark has been extra early with the first looks this year and we already have 2 sneaky peekies lined up!
A Christmas Disconnect // Keep your random llama and alpaca die-cuts, ladies! If you plan on documenting your Christmassy rom-coms this year, they'll come in handy for this one...
A Holiday Spectacular // If you got the NYC-themed Christmas stuff from Paper Person last year, you're in luck because Hallmark is doing a historical fiction about the Rockettes for this holiday season!

excited for that rockettes movie just to see it actually filmed in nyc and the broadway actors involved! after watching derek klena play a weirdo creeping on a teenager in the new pretty little liars show hopefully he can redeem himself here. but also LITERALLY JAN BRADY IS IN THIS! love Polaha so I'm into that movie just for him! Except the cutesy name of the small town reminds me of another movie with CBB where she played a vet? or a doctor or something? in a small town and whenever weird shit (aka santa) happened everyone would be like ~that's Garland for ya~ and that's made it into my lexicon of phrases in real life whenever things are weird or strange lmao I know it's only August but gimme some more clips of stuff hallmark! They're probably just starting to really get into filming though let's be real. I saw there are 185+ made for tv holiday movies coming out this year.. SHEESH Also just saw they're partnering with Enchant Magic who make immersive light mazes/walkthroughs and one will be near me.. so if anything Hallmark has definitely added to my DD this year lol

Very pretty and very easy to mix in with many other holiday supplies! And she used Pentatonix. That's the Christmas dagger straight to the heart! Embedding it for easier viewing in the thread: https://www.instagram.com/reel/ChiG1mmF2vX

Phew! At least this last kit from her shop isn't going to flash "buy me, buy me". Easy pass for me.
Does anyone know *and forgive me if it's been asked before, I don't have it in me to read all the past comments* if I don't have cable, where I can watch hallmark christmas movies?
Thanks for the Elles Studio heads up. I'm really liking their aesthetics.

I don't know if it's US only? But frndly.tv starts at $6.99 a month, though I recommend the $8.99 option because it has a DVR and that comes in clutch if you're interested in watching a lot of them but don't have the time every night they're on. They also have Lifetime if you're wanting to see some of their holiday movies too. You can watch it on a handful of streaming things or even just in your computer browser. I usually get it around the middle/end of October when the movies start and keep it for 2-3 months through the new year.

If you are having issues when the Countdown to Christmas season begins and need a few *cough video cough* *extra cough files cough*, DM me. I have no other way but to sail the seas as a European. Only a select few older Hallmark Christmas movies make it to our streaming platforms over here so you know, it's the alternative route.

Ladies, help a girl out. I'm finding it difficult to figure out what is happening with AE's DD release this year. I don't have time to watch the IG videos and when I go to Ali's blog it's all ICYMI and I don't have the patience to read through each of those. Every blog post being labeled ICYMI is so off-putting. Is there a DD blog post I just don't see?
When is the release day with the photos of what's in the kit? When can I buy?
This is the first year I've felt like I needed to be a detective to find out how to buy her DD stuff. Maybe I'm missing the easy answer, but it all feels so hidden this year.

@ carolynhasacat Its not you! They haven't issued their usual how it works yet and will be doing their blog posts/whole kit reveal as they do every year. All these IG videos are just to hype the product, to try and stay ahead of the competition and to create massive FOMO. I saw a flat lay of the PP mini kit recently and it looked really boring. So clearly the IG lives are doing their thing.

I do not have time to watch an IG video that shows backwards images or is full of chit chat. Just show me stills of the product. Like Elle's Studio is doing. I can decide on my own if I want it or not. I don't need someone hyping up a product or trying to instill FOMO in me. It does the exact opposite. I love Ali, but hate that she is with Inked and now is following their marketing strategies.
