Welcome to this thread. Here you can post about classes offered, share what you have created, share about her products, as well as share any grievances/irritations you have.
Kind of a free for all about Shimelle. The good, the bad, the seriously? Again?!.

I'm excited to (finally) have access to the stencil class, and am looking forward to the pattern paper class.
I did really enjoy her stamping class. While not all the techniques were things I would see myself implementing in a large way I seriously LOVED the technique of using stamps to make a patterned paper--I really loved all the pages that the Peas made with this technique. I can't wait to try it myself.
I still haven't finished the rainbow class. It looks like some of that is still outstanding. I'm really hoping to have some time this weekend to dedicate to scrapping and go through some of my Shimelle classes.

I'm shocked to say this, but I purchased her "Journal Your Christmas" in 2015 and have yet to do one! Once you join, you get the email prompts every year. I saved them all, but have not opened any of them. I think I'm just overwhelmed at all the work it takes, simply don't have the TIME to spend reading emails/working on it.
Oh well. Maybe when I retire I'll have time. And I'll have seven years of emails to work through!

I can't wait to try it myself. I really enjoyed the stamping class also - I own plenty of stamps but they were seriously under utilised. I definitely came away with some new techniques and new ideas and I've been stamping more on my layouts. And I finally have more ink than just black ( DH bought for me for my birthday) I've only done the first two stencils videos and since I've never even owned a stencil before - at least not since the 80s when stencilling furniture was a thing - that's all new to me.

Yay! Love to see this thread, let's keep it going! There is so much content out there by Shimelle, products classes from so many years I'm sure we'll have lots we can talk about.
Including the fact that I discovered the best (at least for me) way to reach her if you have a problem w/class access is to DM her via her Instagram account. My emails went unanswered but she responded to IG DM.
I took her Stamping class from her Use What you Buy series and so far watched one video. I really love how she breaks her technique down (use the biggest first, etc). Now instead of seeing the background as seemingly random stamped images, I can see the way she played with the sizing/color of each deliberately stamped image. Instead of me watching a video, I was taught the technique. I LOVE that I learned that.
Not saying her teaching this is unique to her, but IMO even with all the frustration of getting access, I'm really glad I signed up because I'm getting something from the class.

I'm shocked to say this, but I purchased her "Journal Your Christmas" in 2015 I'm on the fence about ordering it this year

Christmas tends to be a bit of a thing with me and ends up stressful, so I go into the season with high hopes and then it kind of dwindles. This year I want to use some of the prompts and find something everyday to take a photo of and then I'll revisit after the holiday season and figure out how to document it. I do really like her prompts though, and I appreciate getting access to the class every year.

I do enjoy getting all the emails and think "maybe this is the year" and nope, it's never the year. I've had good luck with her classes. I never usually do them right away (or at all: see JYC) anyway so I never noticed a lag or any issues. It's frustrating as hell when someone has a business and they aren't responsive to emails for weeks at a time! She truly needs to hire someone to just deal with the administrative side because that is most definitely not her strength.

I bit off a bit more than I anticipated last December. I’ll finish it in November most likely. I bought the class because Christmas is my least favorite holiday (for a variety of reasons), and I was trying to find my Christmas magic with a second grader. I didn’t want to be a grinch all the time. Y’all, it did help. Like a lot. A lot a lot. Christmas still isn’t my favorite holiday but I like it so much more than, say, Arbor Day now. Those JYC albums are some of my favorite ones. Journal Your Christmas is well worth every penny I spent on it. I wish I had done it earlier when I’d thought about it but didn’t. It really did help me find the magic that there is in Christmas. If you’re on the fence, I don’t think you’ll be sorry. If you’ve already purchased, even if you don’t make the album, watch the daily videos. They’re short but brightened my mood considerably during that dark and hectic month.

Y'all. I gave in and got the stencil class. I figure $5 and maybe then I will use all my stencils I've collected. Now to figure out how to get registered for the message board over there.

The premise of JYC is you do however many pages work for you each year. So if you're really busy or just not feeling it and don't make any, that's fine, if you make three pages, that's all good, if you make a page a day, that's ok too. It's meant to be a low pressure project that becomes an album over time, no matter how long that timeframe is.

I'm a JYC vet from I think her second year and never got past collecting supplies and doing one page. Every year I get those email prompts since I finally put a rule in my inbox so those go straight to a JYC folder, lol. It never occurred to me that I could just do a page or so for years. I mean, I can do a JYC album that spans many years! Huh.

Those JYC albums are some of my favorite ones. I feel exactly the same way about Christmas, which makes it hands down the hardest holiday for me to enjoy and participate in. That said, last year my DS was chatting with someone and casually said, "Well, my mom hates Christmas, so..." and I was appalled. I don't hate Christmas! Out of the mouths of children...So based on what you said I am going to give JYC a whirl, and see if that doesn't help with my Christmas spirit just a bit lol.

I signed up for JYC in 2017 or 2018, and didn't do much with it until 2021. 2021 is the first year I actually put an album together. In completing that album, I've figured out I would rather use a few prompts a year and let it become an album organically.
Does anyone know what Shimelle's final verdict was on sb.com's repositionable adhesive was? I prefer something repositionable because I end up moving things a lot, and would love to see a review on it before I buy any. I know all the instructors were using it during Scrapfest, but I felt like that was just a marketing tool. I know Shimelle tried it out.

I think that’s the most she’s had to say about it. My hunch is she doesn’t love it because she’s back to using her old standard one. She seems to only use the SB one when it’s required for SB projects. Ali didn’t seem to like it much either.

I primarily use it for backing cut files and sticking titles down. I haven't used it to put down anything with substantial weight, like a matted photo. I like the dots because it's a bit easier to use it to adhere things with thin lines. I do find it a bit messy, sometimes if I have some leftover on my paper it doesn't really rub clean away like some brands have in the past. I need to work at it with a glue remover or something similar. It works well for my purposes, but I haven't really tested it much with moving things around or lifting and re-sticking.

honeypea, I noticed she went back to her usual adhesive which is why I wondered. Thank you! And thank you infochick. That’s exactly the info I was looking for. Sounds like I’ll stick with what I was already using!

I just do what I'm feeling or what I have time for and pop it in my JYC albums. I am on my second one. They are probably my most looked at albums.

Crap! I forgot to order the stencil class when it was $5. Sorry there have been issues with some of your all's classes. I'll have to decide if I need the stencil class bad enough to pay $10. And for the record, I've never had an issue with any classes that I've purchased from Shimelle. But I never do them "live" - I always view them later.

Hey kmage - I thought I might try to make a kit of my own - like yours with no/little Halloween - but I notice there are NO alphabets this month? What's with that?

but I notice there are NO alphabets this month? What's with that? I know! I was really suprised, I went and looked and then looked again. Sometimes if she has a sticker book there are alphas in there, so I thought maybe I missed a sticker book, but nope! Plenty of cute stuff, buttons, cut aparts, stamps, stickers, dies...(TBH I really wish I had ordered those leaf dies, the whole set was like 9 bucks) No alphas! I will either use my Cricut (blech) or dig out my mismatched Thickers and see what I can come up with. I may just use my lunch hour this week to cut a bunch of letters with my Cricut. We'll see. What are your plans? I know you have some super cute alpha letter dies!

NO alphabets this month? What's with that? Watching the live right now, Shimelle said that she is using the pink letters that came with the kit last month from scrapbook.com as a freebie. So that explains it!

kmage, what beautiful colors in your kit! I've not put together a BOBW kit yet, but plan to in the future as I'm slowly building up my collection of Distress Oxide inks.
