Hi friends! It has been a busy few days - who knew a new puppy would be so needy OK, we did, but I just now warned DD that if she wakes the puppy she is on babysitting duty for the next 2 hours!!! We've named her "Poppy", as in Poppyseed, as she is small and black. She's the youngest (just 8 weeks) and smallest puppy we've ever owned. Untitled by kirstendrew, on Flickr shinyhappytina - oh my goodness, that is a real health scare! I'm so glad you are OK - did the infection lead to the heart attack or vice versa? I'm very glad you knew the signs and got to help quickly. joyfulnana - I'm glad your body convinced you to take a little break but glad you are feeling better! Your boss needs to listen = you are burned out. The yarn is not going to go anywhere, so you might as well get it on sale. My scrapbook stash gives me a "comfort" feel even when I'm not scrapbooking a lot. I'm sure a box of yard gives you the same feeling - you know it's there when you are ready for it. It's so funny to hear about school being over. Our school year goes until the end of June! This is our long weekend here. I hope to get a little gardening and a little cleaning done, but I also feel the need for some r&r myself. grammadee - how exciting that DD is moving close and the house shift is moving forward! Like you, I need to get my garden in this weekend, but my raised veggie beds need repair - the wood rotted in the corners and the boards all shifted. Every weekend now is growing season wasted. But we had 2 nights that got down to 0 this week, so the old adage of not planting until the May long weekend still holds. Your album for GDA is nylene - glad you had a good wedding visit! I've NEVER been a fan of loud music myself. I'm so sorry your back is complaining. Those little jolts can really send a back into spasm.

Oh kitbop she's adorable!! So precious and yes, they are sooo needy but so cute. I hope she fits right in with the other pets in the house and especially your other pup. Which reminds me that when I adopted Abby, her profile said she needed to be the only pet. She does NOT like other cats. There have been an abnormal amount of strays around this Spring, and one made it up on my second story deck, somehow last night. Oh my, Abby was in the door hissing and staring it down hard lol. I have no idea how it got up there to begin with, that's what puzzles me. I'm not surprised by Abby's reaction, she has the same one to every single cat she sees lol. Alright, I'm off to get some things done and then enjoy what's left of the weekend.

shinyhappytina - oh wow - what a scare! I'm glad you're feeling better but take it easy and make sure you're completely well. (((Hugs))) grammadee - enjoy your time with family - it's nice they are able to help plant the garden - that is a big project! joyfulnana - great deal on the yarn and wise to stock up and not risk not being able to find it. Dh works just around the corner really - about .6 mile from our driveway to the factory gate - so it's easy for him to pop home for lunch. He could easily walk or bike and he keeps talking about wanting to do that. DH and DD went out to the flea market and yard sales this morning - they'll go over to the other property this afternoon and get some yard work done. I'm finishing up cleaning all the things - I didn't finish the kitchen and breakfast nook yesterday nor did I venture uptairs so they're on today's list - upstairs is easy - just need to vacuum the hallway and clean the hall bath. The guestroom/libraries are kept closed so don't need as frequent cleaning, DD is responsible for her own room and bath and I don't touch DH's hobby room. So I'll probably get time to scrap later. DS got back last night from his TDY...he even got to ride in a helicopter for the first time transferring ships. I got to chat with him this morning which was nice.

Poppy is soooo sweet! TFS kitbop ! Enjoy the fun times and rest in the down times. Our schools go to the end of June and start up near the first of September—sometimes last few days of August. Dd won’t be actually moving IN to their new home until mid July. Dsil will be stationed in Washington DC for the next year. He has to leave early b/c as an international trainee at the military program there he needs to—get this!—take a short course in ENGLISH before the actual program begins in August. Guess he has to drop all th “u”’s from words like neighbour and favour… Garden is seeded. Bedding plants go in after the first of June. Dd & co are off to town to work at the house.

shinyhappytina, I am so sorry to hear of your heart attack and subsequent infection. I'm glad you knew the symptom and insisted on getting to the hospital ASAP. I'm sure it really scared your family! Isn't Mal's wedding coming up soon? Hug to you. Have you taken time off work? You are in our prayers. kitbop, what a darling little puppy. I don't envy you the work of training and tending and acclimating her, but I do envy the hugs and fun. I hope you get lots of help from your family as she gets settled. She couldn't be cuter. grammadee, happiness is having the garden planted and having help to do it. I'm glad you will have your DD close. English class??? how funny. They must have a lot of international people in his specialty. Linda and joyfulnana, your school schedule sounds like ours. They finish this week and go back the 2nd week of Aug. As much as I tried, I don't think my 3rd graders learned much those last 3 days. There are so many "end of year" activities that they may as well stay home. They are antsy and flighty and anxious to be released. I always dreaded that last week! I have finished a couple of pages and hope to get a little scrapping done later tonight. Have a wonderful weekend, Pokeys!

As much as I tried, I don't think my 3rd graders learned much those last 3 days I don't think DD is going to get much from the last week either. Her AP World History class - they've already taken the AP test. Welding is done for the year - they're cleaning the workshop and 'looking busy' according to her. They've finished the maths units for the year. They've already turned the Chromebooks in so...I suspect there's not much happening in her other classes either.

Happy Sunday Pokeys! I hope you each have a lovely day. The weather here (Indy) has been beautiful so far this weekend. I sat on the porch and read a book while supervising dh putting in some flowers yesterday. nylene - Yes, Mallory is getting married on June 12th in Alabama. Thankfully, we have all of the major planning done. We just have a few little details left to deal with. And yes, I'm off work for a bit. I see the doc this week, so I think I'll be back at work next week. Since my job is synonymous with stress, they wanted me to give myself a minute. kitbop - Poppy is SO cute! I love puppies so much! Hope she isn't too bad about sleeping at night. I had the heart attack first, then got Dresslers Syndrome almost immediately afterwards. Thankfully it seems to be clearing up with meds. I start cardiac rehab next week (which doesn't seem like it will be super fun). linda - I always think the last bit of school is kind of a waste of time for high schoolers, my girls said they watch movies in class when they were in high school. My son's school worked more like a college campus, so he didn't have to go unless he had a test during the last 10 days, which made more sense. grammadee - It's wonderful that your daughter is living nearby now. We need to get our veggies planted this week, we've been working on the landscaping first. I usually do a lot of it, but I'm not supposed to be doing it right now. I'm going to try to work on some more of my WITL assembly today. I'm hoping to finish it this week.

Good Monday morning! It is a holiday Monday here in Canada. Dd & family are staying here while prepping their newly purchased home. They just left to do some more painting and unload the trailer of stuff they brought with them. Dgs is off helping Grampa feed a calf, and then being ferried into town. They will all be back early afternoon for waffles and bacon and then heading home for the week. Yesterday, dgs had me pull out a bunch of card making supplies so he could make his cousin a grad card, so I made one for her, too. He has his own card making kit now, and has been spending down time this weekend with stencils and inks. Conveniently, he can also watch hockey on TV while crafting... He alerted me to the fact that I have no more card blanks, so I ordered another hundred from Amazon. I don't mind folding and cutting my own, but it is SO much easier to start with a pre-cut & folded card base.
Hope you all have a marvelous Monday!

shinyhappytina - I'm glad that you've had good weather and that you've been taking it easy and letting dh do the gardening. Good luck with the cardiac rehab! grammadee - sounds like your grandson has had a wonderful weekend - calves, hockey, and cardmaking! DH surprised me with a gardenia this weekend and has planted it where I can see it from my computer desk We had one at our first house that I loved and when we moved, he dug it up and transplanted it. But this last move, it was just too big so it didn't come with us. DD16 had a dinner party last night hosted by a couple of her Girl Scout friends so we dropped her off in the city for that and went out to dinner ourselves. She had a wonderful time! Pretty quiet week ahead - she's finishing up school. DH and I have a nutritionist appointment on Thursday (his VA dr referred us) but otherwise a pretty empty calendar which is nice. My house is nice and clean so I have scrappy time scheduled today. Took a walk this morning in my neighbourhood - tomorrow I need to get out earlier - it was hot and humid by the time I got back despite being beautiful when I left.

grammadee , I love your DGS's little scrapping set-up. What a wonderful thing to look forward to when he visits grandma. He's learning from the BIST! shinyhappytina, I'm glad you are continuing to heal. Also glad that your stressful job can do without you for a while. Take it easy. I hope you will post some photos of Mal's wedding. I'm sure it will be beautiful! gramma , you have been on my mind all weekend. I hope things are going ok with all the changes. How are the house plans developing? Drop in if you get a moment. Hugs. I have been really careful the past 4 or 5 days and my back is really improving. I think I just need to be kind to it for a little while. I had surgery on that area in the 80's and wouldn't want to do that again.

Happy Monday! We had a nice weekend. We did get to go to the tennis courts on Sat here in town. We had a fun time. Then yesterday, we went to one of our favorite parks in a neighboring city. But their courts are only of city residents on the weekends and a fee Monday thru Friday. So were bummed we couldn't play. So weird that it is a public park and yet it is only available for residents. So next weekend we will stick to our city. I hope to get back to scrapping this week. I want to finish my layout with the sunray. Also, I want to continue my Paige Evan class layouts. nylene - I was glued to the tv the last several days watching the golf championship! LOL! I am really getting into it and understanding the game better. Ron and I hope to go to our local course's driving range. Who knows maybe I will be playing golf by the end of the year. So glad you are feeling better and so happy to hear you enjoying all of your family get to togethers. So cool! grammadee - That album you made for your dgd is so awesome! I know she will cherish it for years to come. How is the garden looking these days? Is it warm enough to start planting? How is your adventurous runaway pet doing? ( I can't remember if she/he was a cat or a doggy) kitbop - Hello POPPY and welcome! What an adorable little pup!!! Oh, I hope you are all adjusting well these days. linda - What a nice surprise for your dh to get you a gardenia plant! Those are some lovely flowers and they smell so good. Your family sounds like they are all doing well and your house seems to be quite. I need to clean up around here, too. After last years constant interruptions with the construction and repairs, I just slowed down on trying to keep everything cleaned up. So now I hope I can get back to deeper cleaning and maybe a few decorations. I took the curtains down in the front room and after a year, we finally put one the curtains for one window and maybe this weekend we will put up the kitchen curtains. Fingers crossed! LOL! shinyhappytina - Sending prayers for you! joyfulnana - Waving hi to you and Abby and hope you are feeling better. Sounds like your body needed the rest. Yes, I am enjoying tennis and the nice weather we are having. We rarely try to play a game. LOL! We just like going out there and hitting the ball hard across the net. No running or diving for us. Then Ron got a scooper to collect all the balls and put them in the bucket. Then we hit the balls back to the other side. So we are super beginners and just learning to hit the ball. I am not ready for anything fancy yet. LOL!

We're slowly hanging paintings etc...fortunately we have blinds on all the windows because I've done absolutely nothing as far as curtains and so on. One day...

nylene - so glad resting has eased your back. Those types of problems can rear their ugly heads with even the slightest wrong move. grammadee - I just love the card making/hockey combo! That's amazing, and so great that he thought of making his cousin a card to begin with. kellyr21 - I love hearing that you are scrapbooking more and enjoying tennis. DH and I do a lot of just hitting the ball back and forth too. He's really competitive and better than me, so if we play real tennis games I get grumpy Linda - when I saw "gardenia" I thought "spectrum gardenia" which is the new line I just bought from 49th and market. My Mom has a gardenia in her backyard and I always loved it. Her house is on the southern coast of BC, so warm enough for it - it's huge now! Pink flowers...I've never seen one like it. I'm so worried it will be destroyed if we sell her house and they tear it down Poppy update: she is a super sleeper at night! She snuggles right between DH and me, goes to bed with us, settles right down, then wakes us up at about 7am. She is learning really quickly too - the housetraining is a work in progress, but she can sit and come and knows her name well. Our older dog is so gentle but is engaging her now for some tug of war, or chasing. But her BFF has turned out to be our orange cat: he and she shadow each other around the back yard, wrestle, fight over the bed, clean each other... it is too stinkin cute!

Linda, we must have been posting at the same time. I missed that DH got you a gardenia. I have only seen them in corsages or in a greenhouse. They won't grow here. I love the smell and they are so pretty. You have a keeper for a husband! kellyr21, I'm excited that you are loving golf. I know DH really misses playing, but he can't see where his ball goes so he has to have a "seeing-eye pal" to point him to the flag and follow his ball. He was a great golfer when he was younger (Idaho State Amateur champ at 17) so it takes the fun out of it if he can't judge or see distance, even for putting. I'll bet you guys would enjoy some days at the driving range. kitbop, it sounds like your little Poppy is settling in nicely. Sending wishes for quick potty training. I'm sure she will want to please you! Be sure to add photos all along. Have a nice week, everyone.

kitbop - Poppy is doing fantastic! Glad she is sleepy well and making friends. My dh and I are enjoying not playing a tennis game yet but I might be the one too be competitive. LOL! linda - We have blinds on our windows, too so there is no rush for curtains but for me they make this room look better. What type of picture will you be putting up? I have some photos and a few art paintings. nylene - Oh, I didn't know your dh was a champion golfer! Wow! Did you ever play?

Good Wednesday morning, Pokeys! Glad Poppy is settling in so nicely, kitbop , and that she and Hobbes have formed such a bond. So sweet. I have never had any desire to play tennis, kellyr21 , let alone a whole competitive game, but I do enjoy playing badminton and ping pong with family when someone sets up a net or the table. I have been trying to walk mindfully every day. Most days I put in a loop around the yard, keeping my feet moving for 20-30 minutes. When the smoke was so thick I didn't go out at all for a couple of days. And it was really easy to just slide in to not going out at all. Yesterday I made myself go after supper and it felt good. How is your back, nylene ? Hoping you have been resting and it has been healing. Did you say there is another family gathering this upcoming weekend? shinyhappytina, I am surprised you will be going back to work so soon. Please take care of yourself. So sweet of your dh to bring you a gardenia, Linda . I was with kitbop at first thinking it was a paper line... I don't garden flowers. Each year the local greenhouse plants a large pot for me for mothers' day. We return the pot each year, and dh gives me cash to pay for it when I pick it up. She plants a spike in the middle and dahlias around it, then some kind of trailing flower around the edge. It hasn't filled out yet, but when it does it is beautiful. We are 2/3 done with planting the garden. The potatoes and onions that went in the first weekend in May are coming up. The seeds for most of the rest went in last Saturday. The first weekend in June, I will seed pumpkin and cucumber and zucchini and beans, and we will set out the tomatoes and cabbages and other bedding plants. The weeds had already started to come, and dh rototilled between the rows, but I know when I get back from Calgary I will need to get out there and start hand weeding and hoeing. Sorry I won't be starting a crop this morning. With the long weekend here, this week got away on me. Tomorrow I am driving to Calgary where I will be until Monday. Yesterday I did a bunch of laundry and decided that today while I am putting clean clothes away and deciding what to pack for the weekend, I am going to switch around my winter and summer clothes in the closet. Was thinking of it as "tomorrow" rather than as "Wednesday", so didn't even think of the crop until I took my pills this morning from my daily pill pack.

Safe travels grammadee. DH and I got back from Victoria yesterday and we're back at work today. We had such a good trip, but it was a lot of driving. We enjoyed the roadtrip, and tried to stop at interesting places to eat along the way. I will definitely have to scrap a food page or two. We took a harbour tour, visited Butchart Gardens (which are huge and beautiful even if we hit just after the tulips but before the roses), and saw the Victoria Day parade. I'm really looking forward to scrapping the trip maybe using some of the Spectrum Gardenia supplies I bought. I'm happy to hear you are on the mend shinyhappytina. Your heart attack and infection sounds scary. nylene I hope your back is better. I did my physio exercise the whole time we were away because too much sitting can mess with my hip and back. Linda our school goes until the end of June, so I am envious of your DD finishing up already. The last few days are always kind of a waste unless the exam is on the very last day which doesn't really work either. kellyr21 DH and I've never tried a sport together. Tennis sounds fun. kitbop your puppy is so cute!

grammadee , I hope you have safe travels and that you enjoy the graduation. I'd love to see the reaction on your DGD's face when she sees her album! justjac , it sounds like you had a nice trip together even though it was a lot of driving. The gardens sound beautiful and I look forward to seeing what fun foods you found. When does your school end? Do you also teach Summer School? kitbop , how is it going with Poppy? I think it's cute that the kitty has found a puppy pal! Linda , what will you do all summer with DD gone so much? It will be a practice for when she goes away to school. Empty nesting is sooooo empty! kellyr21 , Steve tried all through high school to teach me to golf. I didn't do well and definitely didn't enjoy it. I preferred to find a shady tree and sit and read a book. I did a lot of following him around on courses during tournaments in HS and college, but never had a desire to try to learn later in life. I didn't mind hitting balls at a range, but it just wasn't my thing. My back is doing a lot better. I put off vacuuming and scrubbing my floors last week because that bent-over pushing and pulling is the worst when this happens. I did a quick mop on kitchen and bathroom today, but the entryway will have to wait for another day. DH trimmed the bushes and tracked in squished leaves and grass that will take some scrubbing. The kids call that "grass and leaf blood". LOL Have a great Memorial Day weekend, US Peas. We don't have plans, but will have Em and family home from Alaska tomorrow. Yeah! We have missed them.

safe travels grammadeejustjac - sounds like a lovely road trip - I much prefer ones like that where we stop along the way and check stuff out rather than driving straight through nylene - I'm glad your back is on the mend - don't overdue it though. I'm hoping to scrapbook and read and cook some foods Ms. Picky doesn't like while she's gone. Saw the VA nutritionist with DH today...Hopefully it'll help him make some healthier choices. We could add some more fruit and veg to our menus (and I'm working on doing that) but mostly it's not the home-cooked meals that are the issue - it's more the eating out and the snacks and the iced tea/fruit juices.

Happy Friday! I hope you all are doing well today. I worked on some layouts yesterday and hope to finish them this weekend. My sketching teacher is taking June off for a break so we won't resume our class in July. So I really savored the class last night. We have our last class on Tuesday. So I will have to find another class until July. I still take my Michaels classes every week but would like to find a sketch or art class for one evening. grammadee- I hope you have a fantastic trip with your family. Safe travels! justjac- What a fun trip you had. I haven't been on a real road trip in years. We have some nice sites to see here and I would be fun to go on a little trip this Summer. Glad you enjoyed yourself! nylene- LOL! SO cute hearing about your golf experience! You gave it a good try. These courses are so beautiful and I would just like to go sit in the club house and snack or find a cozy corner to sit and relax. I don't know if I want to play golf but for sure I want to walk around and take in the calm scenery. I would like to go to the driving range and see how I feel. I am getting hook, though! LOL! I have golf on my tv right now! LOL! linda- We haven't been eating as healthy as I would like. I would like to get more veggies in my diet, too. One thing I started doing in making a green smoothie here and there. I do like it. I saw a chopped salad recipe I want like to try, too.

Linda - I hear you on the eating out! With the past year's highs and lows, we've eaten out EASILY 4x as much as before. And my middle shows it too. But I'm content to ignore it because honestly the ease of eating out, the family time it creates, the sense of "luxury" and pleasure of food for me, has really helped with stress levels. The past 2 weeks we've done better with healthy home meals as a family, but this weekend has landed us in another "crisis" spot so last night was A&W and this morning is donuts. My close Aunt moved to hospice Thursday night, unable to get up any more and essentially non-verbal. She still seems to be "there" to a degree and fighting, but distressed too. Movement is torture - her brain has lost awareness of what movement is, so even shifting an arm causes her to scream. I sat by her bed until late last night. She's a 90 minute drive from me which is awkward. My uncle offered for me to stay up there, but I prefer my own bed and things and want to see my family too. And I don't want to intrude entirely on my cousins - they might want time together without me to share memories or just feel sad. It's so hard to decide: what is good for my Aunt (she seemed to like seeing me but really who knows?), my cousins, and for me! If someone could say exactly how many days this would go on, it would be easier to make the "right" decision too. Just to make the situation a little worse, DH and I are flying to BC Friday to spend a week at my Mom's house trying to deal with all the "stuff". But I cannot miss the funeral. Out of the question. And of course I purchased the cheapest non-changeable airfare... so we may have to simply eat that $1000 and rebook. Sigh.

Hi Pokey's. Everyone is so busy, and kitbop I'm so sorry to hear about your Auntie. You sure are having a rough go again. But how cute is Poppy and so awesome that she's a snuggler. I hope you can get some answers soon so you'll know about your flights. I think I should said I used to hit balls at the the tennis wall in HS not that I play played LOL. I mean I have played some games, but wasn't on the team or anything. The scooper sounds like exactly what every person attempting tennis in any way needs kellyr21! justjac your road trip sounds wonderful and very fun! I hope everyone is feeling better, and moving better, I should be walking daily too. I know it would be good for my mental health and stress levels. A pretty quiet weekend here, I've got the cleaning done, need to pick up groceries, and I'm not sure after that. Hopefully I'll get some scrapping in. I hope everyone is having as good a long weekend as possible!

kitbop I just read your post. So many losses for you in such a short time. (((((HUGS))))). So sad to be discussing a funeral before she is gone. But can you ask that it be delayed until after your trip to BC?

kitbop, I am so sorry that you are dealing with another loss. Hugs to you and your family members. You and your Aunt are in my prayers. The waiting is so hard when there is nothing that anyone can do to help. I hope you can still take your trip to take care of things at your mom's home. Everything seems to come in waves, doesn't it. Praying for strength and comfort for all of you. grammadee, I love those photos of your DGD with her album. That is such a wonderful gift, a gift of a lifetime. scrappyrabbit, do you two have family plans for Memorial Day? Our family is tied up, moving college kids home, moving into new apt, recuperating from a cruise, getting new baby home from hospital!! Yes, Swayzee has a new baby sister born this weekend. She looks exactly like Swayzee at birth. Her name is Gracee. We hope to get to see her soon. Swayzee and Gracee

It's my 56th birthday today! It feels strange to be this age but I will get used to it. No major plans today. We went to Joann and Michaels yesterday. Today maybe tennis and dinner. The weather has been so cool and dreary so not sure if can play tennis. But we'll think of something fun to do.. grammadee Your walks at home sound wonderful. I hope to get back to my longer walks soon. Your album is so fantastic. What a great gift. nylene Your dggks are just so adorable! What number is this 4? Congratulations!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET KELLY!
I'm glad you and Ron can be together today and maybe have a dinner out. No one would ever guess you in your 50's. You always look so young and vibrant! I hope you have a wonderful day.
You are right, this is great-grand #4. Eric sent me a photo of Swayzee at day one and Gracee looks so much like her, lots of dark hair.
