The new docuseries about the Duggar family releases June 2nd on Amazon Prime. Is anyone else planning to watch?
I admit, I watched 17 Kids & Counting, then 19 Kids and Counting years ago, when the show was first introduced on TLC. I was fascinated by their conservative lifestyle, "courting", all the rules, and that none of the kids appeared to rebel or think their upbringing was abnormal. I think I watched until Josh and Anna had their first baby. Eventually I lost interest and I remember thinking "the men go to work and the women have babies and clean". I was put off by the expectation that the girls in this family are supposed to reach 18, marry, and pop out babies with little expectation of an education, career, or choices of their own (or the ability to wear pants).
I will probably watch the new docuseries. I am curious if the series will have any information about Anna and if she is doing okay while raising her brood without her husband around to support her, and if any of the Duggar kids have left the church and are branching out on their own.

I never watched the Duggar shows but will definitely watch Shiny Happy People. I'm FB friends with a woman who left the IFB (the same denomination as the Duggars), and she is in the series. I'm excited for her as this is another step in her healing.

I don’t know which ones, other than Jinger, who have left the church and gone out on their own (I believe.) I do know that at least 3-4 of them no longer follow the dressing rules and all wear pants. Momma Dugger has even been seen in them a time or two (under a skirt, though.)

I’ll be watching! I have a fascination with these kooky religious cults.

I'm going to watch. I can't fathom any parents who don't do everything in their power to get their daughters counseling after being sexually abused. Nor do I understand allowing the predator to remain in their home. Anna is either so brainwashed that she needs deprogramming or she's the biggest box of rocks on the planet. She is standing by him. Thank goodness he's in prison so that he's not home abusing his children. Oh ya. I'll be watching.

Her husband was convicted to possession of child porn and will be in prison for a long time, I believe... she needs to get the hell out of that family and start thinking for herself.

No. I find it depressing that the girls will be brought up with the idea that their goal is to clean, cook, and have babies.

They have 7 kids, one of whom was conceived and born just before he was convicted. She's a mess and I don't think she has any business raising children. Remember that before the child porn conviction he was having alleged violent sex w/porn actresses that he met via Ashley Madison. She stood by him. Box 'o Rocks!!!!!!!!!

I never watched any of the Duggars but did hear about the mess. I am a little sad they have taken the title of one of my favourite songs and kind of ruined it...

I was also fascinated with the family back in the day. Not sure why but I was. I will definitely watch this and see what it is all about. Anna is so brainwashed that she is probably mostly unable to raise her kids all by herself. There's no way. She is dependent on her crazy family and mamma/pappa Duggar. I do wonder how the youngest Duggar girls are going to turn out since a few of the older ones have broken away.

It is her father who has brain washed her I to staying. It is their upbringing. They are taught to obey the man and trust in him and believe him and that all the outside stuff is the devil and demons trying to rip families apart. Gross. Just plain gross.

Is anyone else planning to watch? I can't say for certain but I probably won't watch. I only saw a few episodes of their show when I would be visiting my mom because she watched it. She stopped watching when it seemed every season was about one of the kids courting or getting married or having babies. Like I said, I really don't know much about them, but I sort of feel sorry for the parents. (I know they may be to blame for things, but it still doesn't mean I don't kind of feel a little sorry for them)...I think they lead their lives the way they thought was best for them at the time and then became famous and well liked and was on top of the world and then everything crashed down around them and then they were hated.

Momma Dugger has even been seen in them a time or two (under a skirt, though.) I read Jinger's book Becoming Free Indeed. Her parents raised her according to the teachings of Bill Gothard, a fundamentalist preacher. As far as I know, her parents are still followers of Bill Gothard, but Jinger has rejected a lot of those teachings and explains why in her book. She makes it very clear that although she does not agree w/ all of the things she was taught as a child, she still loves her parents. Jinger is still quite religious. Her husband is a youth pastor at a big church in California (or at least he was when she wrote the book). In my opinion, she glossed right over the situation w/ Josh. She said he'd done bad things and she was glad he was being punished. Jinger didn't mention in the book that Josh had abused his sisters when they were growing up and her parents had allowed Josh to stay in the home after they found out about the abuse. Of course, it's her story to tell or not to tell, but I was surprised it wasn't mentioned in the book. I think I would be very bitter if I was her.

I am going to watch. I watched the family on TLC until things went south. I never watched the reboot that was to focus on the older girls.
Jill has greatly distanced herself and I think Jessa doesn't follow the religion. Nor does the one who moved to Texas and LA. Thought she follows a close religion I believe.

I will attempt to watch but if it shows anything that attempts to show the positive side of the Duggars I will be changing the channel.
I watched an episode or two of 17 Kids and Counting years ago when I first heard about this show, but it turned my stomach the way the girls/women in the family were treated (basically as slaves), and I got weird vibes when the father of the bunch and the oldest son were on screen. This was before anything ever came out. I decided not to continue watching the show. It didn't surprise me one bit when the abuse allegations first started coming out.
I'm so angry that the father, Josh, and parents were able to get away with the abuse that was perpetrated upon the sisters in the family and one other relative due to the laws at the time. That was inexcusable and of course just permitted it to continue. They make me sick to my stomach! Especially since they portray themselves to be holier than thou.

I definitely do not feel sorry for the parents. They chose to chase fame instead of getting appropriate help for their children.

I will definitely watch because I was oddly obsessed with that show until they showed their true colors. I haven't watched any of the shows or followed them on social media since the show was cancelled so I had no idea some of them got free.
Also, oddly enough, that woman who tried to say that Tim Holtz was a bully or whatever and ended up retracting everything she said is in the documentary as well. She owns a stamp company (is it Ink Road? I can't remember which one) and now that I know she was allegedly raised in this religion her wacky behavior maybe makes sense.

I have no sympathy for those parents at all. They knew their son was abusing his younger sisters sexually and instead of dealing with it appropriately, separating him from his victims, getting the victims help and ensuring that he got treatment — they hid the entire thing. They continued to give him access and left the girls at his mercy - which clearly he has none. They deserve to lose everything — they haven’t. They still seem to be doing ok. And their son moved on the victimizing other children through child pornography and there is a very high likelihood he has sexually abused other children given the pornography and past behaviors.

I may watch the documentary at least to see where it leads. The show was cute when the kids were a little but I really quit watching as the kids got older and the parents were so overly invested in their children's sexuality and not in a healthy way. It grossedd me out that they had a code word for the girls to say to the boys when they felt and immodestly dressed female was near. Instead of making the boys avert their eyes why not teach them how to behave and to respect any female no matter how they are dressed. It is possible to be both modest and have healthy attitudes about sex and the opposite gender but they really didn't teach their children that. If any of these kids are able to have healthy mature relationships it's not because of their parents.

I've heard that some of the brothers left the compound because they couldn't stand Anna. She's very demanding and whiny about the total innocence of Josh. They are all J names, so I can't remember exactly who.

I do not want to contribute to that completely dysfunctional family making any more money than they already have. I have seen so much trauma in my own family thanks to sexual abuse of children through generations going back to at least my great grandfather. The Dugger family and their cover up of their child predator son disgusts me, so no, I will not watch one minute of that show.

Jill (Duggar) speaks as well as her cousin Amy. Producers and others who were involved are speaking and then those who were in that religion and got out.
So it is a peak into that cult. I think it will be similar to the one about FLDS and Warren.

I think it will be similar to the one about FLDS and Warren. I was interested in this one, the documentary about Elizabeth Smart and the one the Leah Remain did about Scientology. I never watched the Duggars since I thought they all seemed a little cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. Maybe I only like seeing them after people get out.

It's being made ABOUT them, not BY them. They will not want these 'secrets' out there, which as far as I am concerned, is all the more reason to watch it!

I am curious about it.
Just my perception of things:
Amy and Jill have both spoken out about stuff in the past. Amy more so than Jill.....but now, I think it's going to be a tell all. Jill has been distanced and excluded from many activities, by the Family....but not 100% shunned, yet. Jill's husband is an attorney and they fought to get Jill's earning from the show. Amy has been excluded, but I think she by her own choosing distanced herself after the Josh drama. She was very outspoken about the Josh drama on her social media.
Jinger told some in her book, but not much, more so about the cult, and not so much about the Family. I think she's trying to keep the proverbial door open in regards to staying in contact with family.
I think Anna is brainwashed and controlled. She needs therapy to de-program herself.
I think JimBob is creepy, and wants control of all the money that the children earned from being on the show.

I also think they probably thought "it's too bad what happened to the girls, but they'll get over it."
