I never watched any of the Duggars but did hear about the mess. I am a little sad they have taken the title of one of my favourite songs and kind of ruined it...This was my very first thought! I wonder if they will use the song and if they do, I almost wish REM could sue. LOL

I watched some of the earlier series, mostly in the way that you can’t not look at a wreck that’s happening right in front of you. We had the channel on cable, I was bored, so yeah. The dad is creepy AF and I’m not surprised by any of what has gone down. I doubt very much they’re making anything on this documentary because it’s all stuff they would rather not see the light of day which is all the more reason to watch.
I have family members that belong to a church that holds the same kinds of beliefs and quite honestly I worry about my DD’s cousins that are being raised in that faith, especially the girls.

I always wondered if mama Dugger’s uterus was tissue paper thin.

I will definitely watch because I was oddly obsessed with that show until they showed their true colors. I haven't watched any of the shows or followed them on social media since the show was cancelled so I had no idea some of them got free. Also, oddly enough, that woman who tried to say that Tim Holtz was a bully or whatever and ended up retracting everything she said is in the documentary as well. She owns a stamp company (is it Ink Road? I can't remember which one) and now that I know she was allegedly raised in this religion her wacky behavior maybe makes sense. I think she later went after another person too. There is a thread about it on the scrapbook side. Can you post a link? I couldn't find it. I probably won't watch. I can't stand the family. Thankfully Jim Bob lost his political race. I wish that entire family would just go away. I can't remember all the times I have been asked if all Arkansans are like this family. It isn't a good look for the state even though we have other issues.

Yeah, I feel like if you had an American Muslim family home-schooling the kids, hiding sexual abuse, making a ton of money off of putting their kids on TV, and using the girls as maids and nannies, they wouldn't have had the warm reception (and the "you may not agree with their beliefs but it works for them!" apologia) that the Duggars enjoyed. I feel for those kids, and the kids of all parents who decide on purpose to make it hard for thejr kids to function in the world.

I feel for those kids, and the kids of all parents who decide on purpose to make it hard for thejr kids to function in the world. That’s exactly what I’m afraid of for my young relatives. They are being raised completely inside of a religious bubble. They are all home schooled, all of their friends and the friends of their parents and grandparents go to the same church. They don’t socialize with anyone outside of their group and everyone in that group is exactly the same. There is zero diversity. The kids are all taught to be quiet little mice who do exactly as they’re told, never question authority and the elders in the church are the do all, be all and end all. It’s like a breeding ground for potential abuse.

I was interested in this one, the documentary about Elizabeth Smart and the one the Leah Remain did about Scientology. I never watched the Duggars since I thought they all seemed a little cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. Maybe I only like seeing them after people get out. That series is something I highly recommend to anyone to understand high demand religions; not just Scientology. The same tactics, the same indoctrination, in different forms.

I seriously doubt the Duggars will make a dime off of this unless they sue someone. It should be very mortifying for them and if enough people watch it will tarnish their reputation as a happy, nuclear family even more. I hope that more of those kids will get away from that compound and find a much better life.

LOL, still learning, I always thought SHP was B-52s. I guess because of Kate Pierson’s loud annoying backup vocals.. geez girl, BLEND, willya?
Did REM actually write it as well. I always took it as meaning SHP was just a front for dysfunction therefore making this title completely appropriate for a Dugger expose or documentary or whatever you want to label it.
YDD loved the show but came home from college watching Kardashians instead which I guess was at least filthy rich honest because, something was just plain creepy about that Duggars program.
Give me some good John & Kate Plus Eight. People you love to hate.
Were those not the good ol’ days.
Will I watch it? 🤷♀️ It’s on my radar. Thanks for the heads-up!

I didn't even know there was one coming. I'll probably watch it. I did watch the show back in the day when the kids were younger. I'm glad that some of them are free of it, too bad others haven't followed.

Duggar snark was actually my first foray into message boards, I used to be active on freejinger back in the day. I don’t expect to learn anything new from the docuseries, but I do plan to watch.
To recap for anyone who missed anything: -Josh molested his sisters when they were very young (joy was about 5) -josh was found to have an account on Ashley Madison (and he and Anna subsequently named one of their daughters Madyson) -josh was convicted of possessing child porn and sent to prison for a long time. This particular child porn is of such heinous nature that the creator of it was actually sentenced to death in his country. It is something of a myth or legend in the dark web. I do not recommend you read further descriptions about it. -the religion itself: iblp — the leader also went to prison I believe for sexual crimes -jill has distanced herself from the family -jinger moved to California but is still knee deep in another conservative church and her book was not the “tell all” people were wanting -so far the other adult kids have been married and popping out children like candy, except Jana who is still home with the parents in her mid 30s. None of them really hold real jobs or got educated.
Did I miss anything?? I could go on and on.

Are they part of the whole blanket training thing too? I know that some of those ginormous families are. Yes they are. For those who don’t know, blanket training was a child “training” technique described in Debbi Pearls book “To train up a child” in which you would place a young infant on a blanket and lure him/her off with toys. When they would crawl off the blanket, you were supposed to punish the baby by hitting them with household objects, like wooden spoons. This was to teach the baby obedience.

Yeah, or like I feel all of us here would say, abuse. Truly terrible people.

100% abuse. And I haven’t mentioned the general poverty/neglect the kids grew up in until TLC came around. The older kids described having to eat in the bathroom so that nobody would steal their food, that’s how hungry they were.

I want a tell all about Jana! Being home and single until into her 30's...there's gotta be some dirt there that she could spill.
I'm not sure if I'll watch. But I'll check back here for spoilers!

Nearly everything I know about the Duggar family I learned on two peas! I don't know if their reality show was ever on air in Australia or Germany, but I have never seen it. That said - I will probably watch at least one or two episodes of this, if we get it here.

Having lived in the Bible Belt, those people creeped me out from the start. Jimbob was especially pervy the way he kept Michelle pregnant all the time. Michelle sounded like she wasn’t all there and it’s no wonder.

I didn’t realize one of the older sisters was unmarried and living at home. I cannot imagine how low her status would be in that society as an unmarried thirty year old.

This is pure speculation but I would not be surprised if she comes out later as gay and their "faith" requires them to deny it and be celibate. I believe the LDS church does/used to have the same policy or be shunned. I have a cousin who I suspect is gay but still single, unmarried and no kids at 50. She lives with her widowed mother in an in-law apartment on their property and always has minus the years she went to college. They are very conservative Mormons.

i used to love watching "unusual" family shows. since TLC knowingly promoted (IMHO) these very bad actors I haven't watched that channel in a few years.

I didn’t realize one of the older sisters was unmarried and living at home. I cannot imagine how low her status would be in that society as an unmarried thirty year old. It is to my understanding not uncommon in families like theirs to basically not arrange a marriage for the eldest daughter so that she is available for childcare when the younger kids are growing and then to take care of the parents when they get old. So it's even worse.
