I saw it on TikTok first and have read about it. I don’t think the toddler in question was in danger. I think it was a ploy to get someone to stop and Carlee was taken.

How horrible. If someone uses a child that way I don’t even have words.
A few years ago I was driving my son to a friends house outside of town. I saw two little kids walking in the ditch and stopped to ask where they were going. They were about 3 and 5 yo. They initially told me that they had left their mothers “while she was in the shower” because she wouldn’t answer when they called her name and were trying to go to their dads house who they don’t get to see much anymore. I called 911 and they stayed on the phone with me the whole time, which took about an hour for the sheriff to get there. I can’t imagine if that had been a situation like this, and I hope people wouldn’t be scared to help now.

I too think it was a trap. I was wondering if it wasn't a toddler but a little person that she thought was a toddler. The only reason I was thinking that was that toddlers are so unpredictable and it would be hard to wrangle a kid and to kidnap her. The fact that her wig was knocked off and her phone was left behind totally leads me to believe it was an abduction. I read that the police were there within minutes, but still too late.

I just hope she is found safe and if there was an actual child, that they are found safe too. Because if they were used as bait, they aren't in good hands! ETA as far as the wig, aren't they known to be hot and itchy? Perhaps she just took it off in the car after a long day? So I'm not sure about that mean anything, but the phone, yep. Nobody leaves their phone/purse behind unless something is wrong. |

I read about it last night. My DD lives in BHam. I sent her a text this morning to not stop for anything. Use her phone if she sees something hinky. She already knew about it.
I do believe it was a trap. And it's so scary. I hope they find her.

I’ve been following this one too. It’s so terrifying that this is where we are now as a society that a young woman is missing because she’s caring and wanted to help a child. I really hope she’s found safe.

I have been reading about this. OMG I hope they find her and she is ok. I can't imagine what has happened to her. There is no scenario that I can think of where she left on her own volition. Who among us would not stop for a child on the side of the road. This beauitful young woman, please let her be found ok.

My cousin and his wife live in Hoover and she posted about it last night sharing to get the word out. I saw a news story about it later on our Central Texas news so hopefully there is widespread coverage. I hope she is found safe and my heart breaks for her family. Such a beautiful young woman who was just trying to help a child.

I wouldn't stop for anyone or anything other than a child all alone--I think most anyone would, as we called 911, just to be sure the child didn't get hit by a car.
I don't even know what to think.

I hope they find her safe! If it was a trap, I am just wondering what the criminals would have done if it wasn't a single female driver that had stopped to help? It was at night, so it is hard to see who the driver is. ETA: Here is a video that they think is her car pulling over on the highway. I am honestly surprised how busy the highway is. I thought it was some empty stretch of road. Another article said she stopped on her way home to grocery shop. I wonder if someone followed her. She’s been found alive, and has been taken to the hospital. They haven’t released any more information than that.

I hope all is above board, but from the very moment I heard about this I though it sounded very suspicious.
Everyone around me is going NUTS about 'trafficking' since the move "Sound of Freedom" is playing in the theater hear. I haven't seen the movie, but they say it is very powerful. And all the conspiracy theory that "they" whoever "they" might be - didn't want the movie released. Oh boy....
I know that trafficking is real, and the though of young people and children involved is so heartbreaking. My (limited) research shows that a lot, if not almost all, cases are linked to a family member or trusted person being involved it this happening. Which is tragic! But the amount of people I know that are convinced a trafficking ring is waiting outside of Walmart for them is astonishing. Their cars are being marked with a zip tie, or a dollar bill in their windshield wiper. Or a "creepy guy" is following them. Every time it has been proven to be absolutely false. The person is either attention seeking, or just plain coo-coo.
I have to say, I believe it could happen to anyone, anywhere. But use that fear to increase your situational awareness.
