New podcast, Morrison Mysteries, read by Keith Morrison. He reads The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and it sounds like a Dateline Murder episode. 😆 This is a fun listen!

I finally decorated pumpkins. I hate the feel of pumpkin guts, so I do this instead. It's also much faster. The pumpkin with the plastic witch hat is seriously dented.

Nice pumpkins refugeepea! I guess some people recommend opening the pumpkins on the bottom and using a hand mixer to get the guts out. I haven't tried that. I don't care for the mess and touching all the gunk myself, and I'm lazy. I still haven't made the cover for my 2020 October Daily, which was supposed to be my OD project this month. I think I have a plan, I've cut the chipboard, and I just need to start doing it so I can figure out the problems IRL instead of just overthinking them. It's only paper!

You guys I just want to be done with this project!
Remind me next year to do like 13 days instead.
I've got 24 stories done (well, except for the 2X2 page of bits of packaging and the like, still adding to that).
Three total parties tonight. Might make a story for each one. I didn't decorate much so that's out. I'll do a day for Halloween and I think we'll put the cats in their costumes in a bit.
They'll carve pumpkins. I'm also not into it. I used to be. Now I'd just rather eat the toasted seeds. That will be a day.
I want to have 30 days finished before Halloween so I can finish up after dark on the 31st. I'm definitely phoning it in. It's just too much with DD coming. October is so busy too.
REMIND ME NEXT YEAR!!!! A mini and nothing else.

I have really had to reach to get enough stories to scrapbook. I just don't like to scrapbook/document the mundane stuff and is why I don't do project life. But I have had to scrap about first soup, first turkey, and egg free muffins I made to get enough stories. Today I got days 21, 22, 23, 24, and 26 done. 25 will be done once DD finished decorating her pumpkin for the local Disabilities club we belong to. She is making her pumpkin a Parasaurolophus. One of her favorite dinosaurs. Today is dog costumes and tomorrow is favorite homes we see during our decorations drive we do (similar to one a lot of people do for Christmas time) This one just wasn't as fun as DD. That surprised me.

blemon, November is going to be my catch up month. Maybe first half of November for more October daily than December daily. I have a couple projects I want to finish including last years October daily and December daily. I’m trying to allow myself to lean into both projects. Let’s see how it works. I will probably just end up making minimal progress on each and having a bunch more unfinished stuff. Lol. I’m officially on day 16 of October daily for this year I believe. My strategy is when I’m not up for scrapbooking at the table I’m writing stories in my phone. I’m doing a thankful mini album and just wrote all the journaling in the last couple of days. My phone is a mess of stories so hopefully I can also eventually get them off.

I'm happy to try and remind y'all next year that Oct Daily doesn't need to be daily! I found it way too much in 2020 and decided October/fall just isn't that important to me and although I like to hang out and chat with you about October I don't need to make a book.
The original Christmas journal idea that Shimelle had that AE turned into Dec Daily also wasn't intended to be daily (which is why Shimelle's class is an ongoing, never pay again, model). It's OK to have an album that you add a few pages to each year, more if you're in the mood, just a couple if it's that kind of year. I'm a proponent of OCTOBER OCCASIONALLY if you like making pages but need to be free of the need to make 31.
Maybe we need to come up with a Holiday Happenings album concept. A handful of pages for Halloween, a few gratitude and Thanksgiving pages, and the highlights of the Christmas and New Year season. Maybe HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS is a better name! Do we need to start a movement?

I love the name holiday happenings joblackford. I agree with you. Last year I just scrapbooked Halloween and stopped. This year I was so inspired I put a couple more pages in that album to finish it up. I really don’t consider it unfinished.

So it's settled. Next year I will do a 13-story mini October/Fall album.
I will try not to buy anything (oh ha ha ha).
Thanks for all the support!!!
I could do random but I really like numbers. And I'm a little OCD (working on an actual diagnosis which is a whole different story). So I need to have some sort of set. So 13 is good. 25 is great for Christmas.
And like the swaps I do have to have a number. It's just a thing.
But today I finished up to day 28.
I have 3 more stories: the pumpkins, the party my kid went to, and Halloween.
I have ideas too: vellum ghosts for her party, and a whole bunch of banners in a 2-page Halloween spread.
I also have a ton of potion bottles pulled that I want to use. Might just make a filler page to pop in somewhere. I have the back of that Frankenstein image I printed and put glitter gel on (from the Crate Paper digitals).
So I should be done on Halloween. Trick or Treat is on Tuesday so I'll take a couple of photos of the kid in her costume (2nd wave feminist suffragist, yes, she is my daughter, no doubt). And probably try to get a couple of trick or treaters.
They already took photos of the pumpkin carving today.
I'm good. I'll make it. Then on to Christmas.
I'm usually done by the 25th but not this done.
Also will add that I have still enjoyed this process. I had a lot of fun making today's page about the parties we went to.
Some pages are totally phoned in but it's the whole, not the parts.

I haven't started working on my album. I probably won't get to it until January or so, but I'm fine with that. I've been taking lots of pictures and collecting supplies.
My album won't be a DAILY; it will just be October MEMORIES. I don't want to feel like I have to have pictures for every single day. I want to just document what was fun or important. I've got ideas rolling around in my brain for how I want to make my album, but I will probably change my mind 20 times. LOL!!

I have finished my 12 Halloween cards.
I got carried away with the ghost trick or treaters, but was proud of using my magnetic poetry stamp.
I used OLD product. Remember when My Mind's Idea had diecuts? That's the green frame and Jack-O'-Lantern. The sentiment in the middle is from the SS vintage Halloween line. The candy corn sticker border is from Me & My Big Ideas. The candy corn is from Michael's when they had those $1.00 rubber stamps. The ghost on the white, black, and pink card is from Dollar Tree.
I am now working on a 2015 Halloween costume page of my son.

Forgot to add, I saw Psycho for the first time. I admit I was a bit chicken and didn't want to watch it forever because I was afraid the shower scene would be too bloody. It was not. I don't like gory Halloween movies. It was kind of.... comical in a way because the special effects were so terrible when I watched 50+ years later.

I've still not seen the whole movie, but I've seen enough of the crucial scenes that I think I'd find it comical too. I've watched some scary movies I (happily) missed during the 80s on TV with my husband and most were not scary on the smaller screen. I do look away for the gory parts though. More cute cards!

I'm not limiting myself to October either. I like to include the local Harvest Market festival so I start collecting photos and stories in September and I think the album will go through Thanksgiving. I am planning on 31 stories though with plenty of Halloween themed stuff. I think we made our haunted gingerbread houses the first weekend in October. Physically all I've done is gathered supplies and started playing around with my cover page. I need to get my photos so far onto the computer, edited and printed!

30 days down, 1 to go. Last night I busted out Stories 29 and 30.
I handed out some candy, took some photos, and planned out my page.
Hope to finish this evening and then get started on the Christmas swap.
Looking forward to putting the Halloween/Fall supplies away too. We didn't put out too many decorations. The outdoor ones will stay put until the snow melts (looking like a good weekend). But I'll round up everything from around the house. Shouldn't take long.

I have days 27-31 to do. Just haven't been feeling it.
I have found it interesting that with DD I work on it all the time. But my OD has sat for days and then I work on it. And I love Halloween and October. Just not my thing.

We had 26 trick or treaters, more than I was expecting so we almost ran out of things to give out. We were joking about things we could scramble for - Lara bars? Bananas? If only we had some individually wrapped prunes… lol. Hubby said there was a family who gave those out when he was a kid. Nacho cheese Doritos were the front runner here, but unexpectedly one teen traded her friend so she could have the Rold Gold pretzels that she said were “the shit!” Every year I overcomplicate the treats, that’s my superpower. Next year I’m just doing chips. I kept my decorations very simple this year so I was able to grab them in before bed. I put the cape I made for our late pug on the gargoyle for a laugh. I went with just enough but not too much… Halloween by jo.blackford, on Flickr

joblackford chips are the best! One house gave my kid a cheese stick. Ha! Luckily it was cold. Another had a bowl of candy and a bowl of potatoes. The last potato was chosen just before it was her turn to choose. She would have chosen the Reese's anyway but how fun. They ran out of potatoes! So many kids were choosing them. I was really heavy handed in my treating and we were on the very last bag when the kid came home. I was like, quick, dump out your candy and put what you don't want in this bowl and we'll give it back out. Then no one else came. But the good thing is most of her candy is now sorted so I can bring it to work for my students tomorrow. We bought this odd unicorn sea dragon with wings warm onesie kind of costume at Goodwill and I wore it last night. Super fun.

My boyfriend goes crazy with the decorating in his yard, so we got lots of comments last night. (Actually, we've been getting comments through the whole month of October.)
We carved 13 pumpkins Monday night to put out. They turned out awesome!
We had bought a bunch of candy but started worrying that we wouldn't have enough, so I bought a few more bags after work yesterday.
We are already talking about things we want to do for next year. He and I both love Halloween!
