No advice for the interview, but congrats! I’m truly hoping things work out in your favor one way or another. 🤞

I'd be happy to help you w/the interview questions. In another life I recruited finance and legal people. Of course, you'll want to keep it very professional and not get into the details of the problem people at work. This might be a case of "shiny object". In otherwards, keep the focus on your skill set and your accounting abilities. You're a fast learner. In your last position you basically trained yourself and your work is always well received. You're very detailed and can back up all of your figures. As a detail oriented person, you make sure to document your figures and can always explain and backup your accounting. Tell the truth about your great skills as an accountant and your reasons for getting your MBA. Talk about what you love about accounting and what you love about your current job. You might have to reach, but talk about the tasks at which you excel, rather than the people who are so dysfunctional. I could type a novel here, but if I was coaching you for an accounting interview I'd make it all about the numbers, the efficiency and the perfection in your work.
One question that they might ask is what you thought of him as your boss? This will take some thought, but you can spin an answer that is diplomatic. I would have an answer in place, just in case they ask.
As for the reason you're leaving, that will take some creativity. If you want some help just PM me and I'd be glad to help. You deserve a great new job that fulfills you and that is in a peaceful, well functioning environment. You will do a great job on the interview. I'll be sending you all of the get-the-great-job vibes that I can muster.

Congrats! I’m sure the interview will go well. (Why is it scheduled so far out?) I wish I knew...lol. It probably has to do with calendars of the interviewers. I think every interview I've had in the past ten years has been with an average of 3 panelists. So I'm expecting the same again. I can't remember the last time I had a single person interview me.

The position I am interviewing for is with my boss's old company. I had to disclose that he was my supervisor. I need a good response on why I'm looking to make a lateral move. I'm sure that question will be coming. If “my boss” now refers to the former assistant director who was demoted to your supervisor a couple weeks ago, perhaps mention his brief tenure as your supervisor & cite recent turnover/reassignments as the reason for considering a lateral move. I am sorry I wasn't clearer. It is the director (still functioning as my current boss because everything hasn't been made official) not the new boss, who formerly worked there.

scrapmaven I am sure they will ask me industry specific questions and I'm not worried about them. I don't tend to be a nervous interviewee. I know I do well in that capacity. I also am very confident in my experience level for this particular position. This is not an accountant position but something a little more budget/finance related. Which is in the same vein as my current position. It's not a complete overlap but I have enough experience dealing with these types of tasks and issues that my experience level is more than suitable. The fact that I also previously worked as an account in a grants related capacity is also a plus. The only thing I'm nervous about is the issue of why I'm looking for another job. And then I'm nervous about their answer to my questions about flexibility/remote work. Honestly unless one of the interviewers really rubs me the wrong way, if chosen, these questions are what my choice to leave would be based on.

I personally don’t think you need to get too deep about a reason why you’re leaving. If they ask, a simple, “It’s time for a new challenge,” or something else equally vague and benign is code for “there’s a story here but I’m not going to badmouth my employer.” They’ll move on.

Good morning! I just wanted to update and say, I'll take all the good wishes you want to offer me today. My interview is at 1 pm today (I'm now wishing I had taken the 10 am timeslot I'm a morning person and I've got some anxiety going on) and will last an hour. It will be followed by a short exercise on job competencies. I should be back home by 3 pm and I have a meeting at 3. So, hopefully I will get the chance to update following my meeting.

Sending good wishes - although you do not need them to nail this. You have all the power within you. In the meantime, take some calming breaths. In your nose - hold - out your mouth. 🥰
