Well, ha! You know me. My brain really works too damn hard at second guessing myself. I did what I could in the moment. I might not be what they are looking for but I don't doubt that I gave it my best effort. It has been my pleasure to "know" you, and look forward to a day when we might cross paths and have a glass of wine or two and giggle our heads off. I would absolutely love that. It's funny how being a member of a message board for 15+ years you get to know people so well. 😉

Well, I'm coming at this nine hours after your initial post about the interview today. But in reading on, it sounds like it really went well. And of course, we all think they should hire you!
Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed but I you may not need it. I'm betting you made a very good impression.

Hugs I hope you get some good news soon. I would say try and relax but if you are anything like me you will have a hard time shutting it off about the interview. I hope that you got it and that you can move on from the craziness of your current job. Know that we are all pulling for you.

And one thing that I think may have turned them off to me is that they had asked about a situation wherein I was integral in developing a policy and the example I gave them horrified them that it wasn't a policy until I actually began monitoring the account. So I'm afraid it reflected badly on me that my company is mismanaging something and I am trying desperately to correct it. I'm afraid that example made us look incredibly bad and that wasn't my intention. It was my intention to show that I'm trying to use my position to make improvements. That most likely answered any questions they may have had about why you are looking to leave your current company! I wouldn't worry about their reactions too much. It reflects poorly on your company, not you. Hopefully you will hear positive news from them soon. Now go look at pretty quilt photos and clear your mind!

I think you showed them how honest and "wanting to do the right thing" you are. It's hard to interview with a group and make it conversational, so don't give that another thought. . I think you did great, and I'm willing to bet my house, they did too. Can't wait to hear about you giving your notice.

It sounds like you did a great job in spite of their too-broad questions. I don't think it's a bad thing that your example showed that you were identifying problems at your current job and developing policies to fix things! That's the truth and maybe it reflects badly on your organization but it shows that YOU were integral in developing a policy that probably the higher ups should have put in place a long time ago. If I were interviewing you, I would be impressed with that example! This, for sure! I'll have my fingers crossed for you!

Well I hardly slept last night. I don't know what got into me. I just felt so unnerved. My morning this morning was bumpy but a package came in the mail for Jeremy. It was from Expression Fiber Arts. I assumed it was a Christmas gift for me. But no, he ordered it for me because he knew I'd be stressed out about my job interview. He's just the best.

It reflects poorly on your company, not you. I agree with this completely! As always, you may not be the right person or whatever, but from what you said, I don't think you did anything "wrong" in the slightest. And I think your example where you fixed something obvious just shows good things about you. For what it's worth, the interviews where I felt like I did OK but not the greatest seem to be the jobs I was offered. The ones I thought I aced, I don't think I ever got an offer! (I also never got an offer to an interview where I wore a suit, even in the era where you wore a suit to every.single.interview.for.any.job.)

So a couple of updates...
I think something was said to my coworker. Last week she was answering emails and taking most calls and messages. Total change for her. She even put together a reporting spreadsheet that I thought we'd work on together.
Things have been tough for me. I have an infection in my finger that is super bad. I honestly have had my finger drained 4 times now and I am on some high powered antibiotics that are kicking my ass and making me sick. Because I'm down a hand and not feeling well in general, I have been in and out of the office the past two days. I logged in at 6:30 this morning intending to input October numbers into the spreadsheet for my offices. And she had already done it and submitted it.
I don't know why this bothers me so much. Jeremy was like this is how it should work. You carried her for a long time, you needed help this week and she helped you. You should be able to accept help. I don't know but something doesn't feel right to me.
I went to dinner with my friend on Saturday and I told her about the job interview. And having a few days to really process it, I told her I was uncertain whether I wanted the one woman to be my boss. She was very smirky. She was the one who was very vocal about my answer to that question on a policy I had worked to change. Just her whole demeanor threw me off. I never quite regained my footing. But anyway, I received an email today from them stating that they did not fill the position at all. So maybe it wasn't my imagination that their questions were set up for failure. Others must have struggled too.
I'll keep looking.

Darn. I was hoping. It wasn’t the right placement for you apparently. Keep looking.
I’m with Jeremy on the other person helping you out. Maybe she was talked with and realized that she’s been off her game and figured she’d help you out.
What did you do to your finger?

I had my nails done on Saturday. I'm a nail biter and I wanted to look put together for the interview. By Tuesday my finger was a mess and it just went downhill from there.

You must feel a bit out of sorts while it’s healing. I’m sorry that job didn’t come off. Have you asked for feedback on the interview? I feel like you are boxing shadows at the moment and need some information to ground you iyswim.

Others must have struggled too. I'll keep looking. It was probably company policy to have to have interviews for the position that you interviewed for. Maybe they didn't really want to fill this spot and can now report that there weren't any good fits for the job/team. Interview teams are difficult to both be on and to be interviewed by. Keep on looking. Sorry that your finger is still hurting. I will agree with Jeremy and that this woman probably was talked to (in response to you talking to your supervisor). She has made the decision to keep her job and make the effort to be part of the team. I would be grateful that she is finally doing her work. Feel better soon.

Yes, she not only got talked to; but she is now afraid of loosing her job. I am glad that she is stepping up. I wonder if they put her on a Personal Performance Plan.
As far as that interview is concerned. Don’t worry. I think that you are going to find a great new job!

I’m sorry it didn’t work out. I know the frustration of wanting to get out so bad and an interview doesn’t go the way you wanted. Hang in there. Keep looking. Better will come.

I'm sorry about your finger. Infections are not fun. I'm glad your work partner (I don't know if that's the right word) stepped up. It takes time to heal. I hope you are feeling better soon. Continued good luck on your job search.

I'm sorry the interview didn't work out, but it definitely sounds like it was for the better. I'm not convinced that is a company you would want to work for. And glad to hear that your coworker is trying to pull her weight, although I totally understand why you don't trust it

As far as that interview is concerned. Don’t worry. I think that you are going to find a great new job! I also bet she was put on a PIP (Personal Improvement Plan). This might be a first step to getting her let go. Employers put you on a PIP for a determined amount of time (90 days, 6 months, etc) and strictly monitor your performance, and document everything. My sister was put on one years ago at B&BW corporate, and she felt once she was on it, there was no way for her to get out of it (her boss was not really looking for her improvement, but a way to document and have a reason to let her go), so my sister immediately started to look for another job. I am sorry to hear about your finger too - I am a nail picker, and while manicures help, there are times I am stressed and just pick away at the skin around my nail bed, it is SO painful. Sometimes I soak the finger in hydrogen peroxide, have you tried that? There is something very gentle and soothing with the bubbles attacking the hurt spot. As for the interview, it sounds like it may not have been meant to be. You had some flags, so maybe this is a dodged bullet! Keep the faith! Your correct path will shine its way...

Sometimes I soak the finger in hydrogen peroxide, have you tried that? I tried that last week. What's going on with my hand is so far beyond that solution. I'm going back to the hand surgeon today an we will unwrap it and see how it looks.

Ugh, manis and pedis gone wrong are the WORST! I ended up with a toe infection on vacation from a pedi where the girl pulled an ingrown toenail. I had to go to the Philippine equivalent of urgent care and have it drained. Luckily, a simple dose of antibiotics took care of the rest. Now, when I go for a pedi, I always tell them 'do not pull any ingrowns; leave them be!'
I hope you get good news from the doctor today.
