I'm so sorry. I know this is probably so stressful. Just do your job and let's hope that upper management does their job. You shouldn't have to take on any more than you already have.

Update: I'm back in the office today. Shit show. There was no progress made since I've been gone. Well don't bust your butt doing jobs other people should have done in your absence This has been my entire MO today. I'm doing what I'm responsible for. Everything else, I just forwarded to them.

I’m sorry you came back to a disaster at work but I think it’s important that your boss sees that no work is done by your coworker when you are out and that you are the only one in the department who does any work. They can't *not* see it. I don't even know how that is possible. But everything today I forwarded to them. I got my responsibilities from last week done. And I forwarded everything else.

Oh my goodness, you have been certainly going above & beyond in every way in dealing with this situation. Big hugs & I hope that there can be some improvement with all of this made soon. At least, the good news is that November to February is our slow time. So if nothing else, a reprieve is coming. But I was truly hoping that something would happen before then. Because the slow period is just going to ensure that everyone's work load slows down and then it's harder to see that work isn't getting done.

Ugh, how disappointing. It's always rough the first day back from vacay but that's so much worse for you. I would try to your own work only, but I know it's easier said than done.

That’s such a bummer. But I do think you are doing the right thing by dialing it back. Everyone is expecting you to come back and save the day.

You're doing exactly the right thing. Do your job, only. Then document the stuff that is not being done by your colleague. Just keep a list and keep copies for yourself. You are proving that you're working hard and that no one else is doing their job. Document it all and if it goes to HR or your bosses, boss you have the proof you need to state your case w/strength.

Well now I'm just sitting back with a bucket of popcorn. My week was stressful but I've set myself up for a relatively easy Friday. So that's the good news.
The bad news is that contract that needed to be done two weeks ago and that I sent over the data for days before I left on my vacation still hasn't been addressed. The office that works with the IT guys on this contract, contacted my boss's boss about it stating that our office was stalling and risking people's paychecks.
My director and his assistant today both reached out to her in a desperate attempt to get her to put together the data needed for the contract. This was this morning. She just responded. And her data is without the necessary accounting elements for them to complete the contract.
So I'm sitting here waiting for someone to notice. Meanwhile I've got a whole trail of emails to prove that it wasn't me. Popcorn while we wait?
In other news, there were two reports due tomorrow. I completed one this morning doing all the work myself. Submitted by 9 am. The other one, I did all the work for my offices and sent to them over two weeks ago to finish. This morning, in a meeting, we were reminded of this deadline tomorrow. So I went looking for it to see if it had been done. It had disappeared. I sent a message to her and my boss asking what had happened and telling them that I feared all my work was lost. She responded that she took it off the server and saved it to her own computer. (A no-no). So my boss saw that, as well. I just hope she preserved my work but again, paper trail. This makes me so nervous, though, that I'm tempted to start saving copies of things to my own computer in case this happens again.

Or one who wants to take credit for said co-worker's work, since she isn't doing any work herself.

You are smart to keep a paper trail. It's one thing to be struggling due to a medical issue. But it's unacceptable to try to get a co-worker in trouble and/or take credit for their work.

Email yourself a copy of the document after you send her the link when it's ready for her input. That way you have a timestamped version of what she received.

i bet it is possible if she did lose your work they could go to a backup and retrieve it. Most places keep some kind of back on many things for retrieval if needed. I am guessing that is a pretty big offensive for many work establishments. Also did you just email a link or send her a copy, maybe you can find it in your sent items. Sorry for the issues, I hope they work themself out without any intervention needed on your part. Sorry maybe you are using teams or something and then disregard my rambling. 😁

With this turn of events, perhaps that day is closer than you realize. Is that popcorn buttered or kettle corn?

But peas have come up with some interesting ideas of why she may have done that that I didn't think of.

Absolutely email everything to your email, so that you have copies of everything. I'm hoping that the people who are in danger of not getting a paycheck will make a huge stink to your bosses boss. Then the Sh*t will hit the fan and they'll have to do something about her. When paychecks are in jeopardy then all hell breaks loose and that's what you need right now. In other news, if you are eating caramel popcorn, I would join you.

Someone who doesnt want people to see the date and time they last worked on the document. I did not know this either. Hmm... Perfect for someone who wants to claim that she worked on it daily, but really crammed it in at 8pm the night before it was due. 🤷🏼♀️

What a frustrating situation for you. There's an awful lot of people dropping the ball there. Hopefully at some point, there'll be an accounting for them. Meanwhile, I'm sorry for you - it can't be easy to wait it out.

To me she doesn't read as crazy. She reads as desperate. Desperate people do sometimes do crazy things, but if she is not functioning well and not up to the job, I can see her trying to cover her behind in a lot of these ways. I feel for her, even if she's made poor choices and put jeremysgirl in a big bind. Evem though I put some of those motives oit there, I'm not convinced it is calculating or vengeful. ALthough the server thing is not cool at all.

Do you have the original data you sent her? Not knowing her, in addition to the above mentioned possibilities I’d be concerned she could try and blame any errors on you.

I just think we have a situation where someone is not accepting they can no longer handle the workload. And I totally sympathize because that would be a hard pill for me to swallow too if I were in her shoes. But now I think things are getting really out of hand. And between her and my boss, I'm concerned that I am looking bad.
