For the record, I watch the NBC Nightly News at 6:30 pm and my local NBC News in the morning as I get ready for work followed by the first 15 minutes of the Today Show. I have begun to hear about polls where the majority of Americans are beginning to have significant concerns about Biden’s health. I have seen enough elderly folks in my personal life that have difficulties so I do recognize it. I did not know he ever had a speech impediment. I’m only basing on what seems to be a decline every time I see him on the NBC segments I see. I suppose it was my mistake to think anyone here would want to discuss anything negative. Frankly it wasn’t a personal attack on Biden but it has been a little alarming and maybe a little personal to me. Criticize Biden all you’d like, i truly don’t care. And yes, he’s far to old to be president IMHO, but apparently it’s the best we democrats can come up with. ANYHOW… What I care about is that there are people who apparently have not heard Biden speak enough to know that he suffers from stuttering. It boggles my mind. I ask this honestly, have you not listened to him speak in all the years prior to this? I completely agree!

Do I think there should be a maximum as well as minimum age to be president? Also Yes Do I think that Biden is doing a great job as president? Not really. Am I willing to have a respectful conversation about Biden's presidency and fitness for office? Absolutely But don't kid yourself. This ain't that!!!

I think you’re conflating issues by posting the polls. Of course we’re concerned about his age. Who wouldn’t be? But we’ll still vote for him because he’s our nominee. It’s that simple. No other Democrat is running and the GOP candidates are Trump or his lunatic back up singers. I’ll tell you this - if the GOP were to nominate a candidate with the policies of John McCain or Mitt Romney today, they would win an election against Biden. But y’all are stuck in some carnival horror house of insanity with your candidates these days.

The media is toxic and promoting discord, all for click bait and viewership. What large numbers of Democrats are concerned? Information and polls from the media? So what that it's mainstream media. CNN, NY Times, MSNBC, etc. all have some terrible takes on what's happening and biased main-line topics. The right has no other platform than to say that Joe is incompetent and too old and that's the story that will continue. You can't dispute his accomplishments. Ha! So initially, everyone questioned my source and accused me of not using the correct source of media to reference and then when I quote known liberal sources for reference, somehow there’s still an issue with my sources of reference. Got it. It’s not just right leaning media you can’t stand. It’s any source that questions anything you don’t want to discuss. That’s how politics goes here. edited to add - his accomplishments? Inflation at a 40 year high and the middle class struggling to make ends meet like I’ve not seen since the Carter administration. Come on now. In your OP, the only "evidence" you referenced was a YouTube video posted by a GOP propaganda maker. And now you want to cry persecution and say that it's all from clips you've seen on NBC? Head on over to the thread about how leftists need to jump on the Biden bandwagon. I have several posts there talking about how useless Biden has been in protecting the constitutional rights of people in red states like mine. I can talk negative about him for days. I didn't support him in the 2020 primary and wish to goodness we'd nominate someone else now. I am sick to death of old white men running this country - Biden included. I wish they'd all shuffle off into the sunset because they're not doing anyone any good. But because I can hold two competing thoughts simultaneously, I can also be realistic about how negative media portrayals have affected people's thoughts of Biden's age/fitness, to the point where they see danger signs in simple speech disfluency caused by his well-documented stutter. Let's quit with the all or nothing cry of "you won't agree with my negative characterization here because you never want to discuss anything negative at all!" Life isn't like that. ETA: Came back to add this article from last year about how and why the middle class is struggling. Would be interested to hear your thoughts, and specifically what you'd like to see our government do to help the middle class. time.com/6171292/middle-class-falling-behind-economy/

I actually thought some of his stumbles was that he was attempting to speak from memory rather than reading a telepromter.

Biden is not perfect. And there’s plenty of criticism on this board when we disagree with something he says or does. Like voting rights that he and the Democrats failed to pass. Many of us are concerned about his age and wish the Democrats didn’t have tunnel vision when it comes to candidates, Hillary in 2016 and Biden now.
Mental decline from a GOP video? No, it’s not surprising that we disagree with you. We’ve pointed out his stutter and linked videos of recent speeches where he sounds exactly like himself.
Republicans have 2 talking points that are mutually exclusive. Biden is a criminal mastermind, head of a crime family or he’s a bumbling idiot, in imminent danger of being put in a memory care facility. Which is it?

I think you would have to be a democrat with their head stuck in the sand if you were NOT concerned. I havn't seen a decline in him, but just his overall age concerns me, a LOT. My other big concern is Kamala. If something would happen, is she ready to step up? I havn't seen her doing anything while she's been VP. I know what her job is. I get it. Other VPs did the same thing, but with a President this old, I feel like to reassure us, she needs to step it up and be more of a presence.

Otherwise stop running down (with no proof) the only person who will NOT run this country into a dictatorial government that will effectively royally screw us all, including you. If you can't be honest and say you want the asshole to win the next election, you'd be better off to stay quiet.

Frankly it wasn’t a personal attack on Biden but it has been a little alarming and maybe a little personal to me. Okay, so the polls you posted largely refer to the 2024 election. Your OP specifically said, "this is about the here and now." If you'd like to talk about the poll results, here is how I would answer. For reference, I'm under 45 and "Democrat-aligned until the Republicans stop trying to remake our government into a dictatorship" (i.e, unaffiliated party). From the CNN poll: Seriously concerned that Biden’s age might negatively affect his current level of physical and mental competence (56%) - Moderately, not seriously concerned. Mostly because of the impact stress has the body and yes, it can impact elderly greater. His ability to win the 2024 general election if nominated (60%) - Yes, I have concerns about his electability, but not necessarily due to his health or age. His likely opponent is just as old and has demonstrated clear mental and physical health issues, and that certainly isn't stopping MAGA from having concerns. His ability to serve another full term as president if reelected (61%). - Yes, I have serious concerns about that for every president, though. 100% the reason that I didn't vote for McCain in 2008 was because he chose Sarah Palin for his VP. It would be a whole separate thread about VP choices, though. His age would negatively affect his ability to understand the concerns of the next generation of Americans. - Meh. My 94 year old grandfather (a Libertarian) understood the concerns of the younger generations until his death in June. Anyone can understand someone else's concerns if they put in the work, regardless of age. Note - I don't believe that understanding is the same as agreeing. Biden does not inspire confidence (63%) - Compared to whom? Most US politicians? Other world leaders? I mean, I would rather have someone like Jacinda Ardren, but I have more confidence in Biden to not destroy our country's framework than I do, say, Rand Paul, Kevin McCarthy, et al. Does not have the stamina and sharpness to serve effectively (64%) - Maybe, especially in a second term, but I think he's fine right now and that there isn't really a need to globe trot to effectively serve. His policies have failed to improve the economy (64%). - His policies have largely been blocked by the legislative and judicial branches, so that's a broken question. But I also don't think our economy is in the shambles that mass media presents it to be, so I'm biased against this question as a whole. From the AP poll: Biden was too old to be effective for another four-year term. - Generally speaking, yes, I think the risks are much greater for his age to limit his second term effectiveness (and again, that wasn't the question you originally asked). For the record, I assume this risk to be true for all candidates, with higher risks associated to higher ages. When asked what word came to mind when they thought of Biden - Honestly, "Obama" and "white hair" were the words that came to mind. I can see how his age would be a popular answer, as many people will default to physical characteristics. This is another example of terrible questions journalists ask in polls that don't really tell you anything (imo).

Don't fall for the "I don't participate in political threads" bullshit. I am 99.9% sure GaJenny was/is a full fledged republican. She used to "participate" in political threads on the old 2peas and I think when we first started here but then took a huge break when all the conservatives ran off because they couldn't stand the heat in the kitchen.
This was not an innocent thread for her to start. It was planned and purposeful.
If...big if, I have the OP confused with someone else I will absolutely apologize to GaJenny but will still be skeptical of this thread.

In addition to Trump’s age (just 3 years younger than Biden) and his most recent incoherent ramblings, Benedict Donald’s overall health is crap. I’m not sure he can handle the stress of the indictments and the campaign.
Regarding to Trump’s most recent nonsense about beating President Obama and the start of WW II, the conservatives have been surprisingly silent. They love to point to any of Biden’s perceived rambling but are always silent when it comes to the Orange Menace.

As a child who overcame a stutter (and a lisp), I find your post to be infuriating. Are you unfamiliar with Biden’s speaking disorder? Being a member of this forum, I'm surprised at how many times I felt I live under a rock. I did not know about his disorder.
Ya learn something new all the time on this board.
My son has overcome a slight stutter and grandson was a very late talker so he went to speech therapy for several years. I would have thought maybe dealing with this personally, I would have learned about Binen't disorder somewhere along the way. Does his disorder have a name?
I didn’t know he had a speech issue, either!

I do recall his stutter coming up quite a bit during the election, now that you mention it, but since that election, I've had my mother fight and beat breast cancer, my father fall ill and die from ALS, been a primary caretaker for my grandpa until his death, had a job change, currently undertaking a huge house update in preparation for a move. My brain opted to dedicate storage and processing to my own life's challenges instead of remembering the speech impediment of a president. 🤷♀️

Now you’re just being argumentative. You know as well as anyone that neither of them are serious candidates. Robert Kennedy spouts conspiracy theories and has Republican donors. Williamson is a self help author that promotes spiritual healing and no one has ever heard of her. Longshots at best, kind of like libertarian and Green a party candidates. Yes, they’re on ballots but no one takes them seriously. You’re arguing for the sake of arguing.
