Good morning and welcome to July. seaexplore had mentioned in the previous thread that maybe I could do sashing between the squares. Several of you liked that post. I had not had that as part of my plan. However I do see that would be a good idea. I bought blue for the border. When I wake up a bit more I need to go in and see if I bought one yard (not able to do sashing) or if I bought three yards (can't remember) where the math would math for sashing and borders. This might help a bit too if the quilt was too narrow. I know it's going to be too short but I bought another yard of a print to lengthen it. This though is the biggest quilt I have ever tried and just those nine squares have outgrown my flannel board. So I know I'm not going to be able to pin it up. I'm having coffee now. And I have to say I'm a bit daunted at the idea of additional work on this. However, 2" sashing would be nice. I'm not going to deny that would be super. So let me finish my coffee, have a shower, and check my email. I logged in to work yesterday to check my calendar and I didn't see any new emails which is good. I've got my work all caught up and an appointment with my therapist at 11 and a big meeting at 1. But that's all I have on my work calendar this morning which allows me more time to cut and sew fabric. Now that I've got momentum I need to ride that. My crochet pattern gets released today too. Woo hoo! My yarn should arrive soon. I'm unsure of when it will because it's coming from the UK. But that's going to be tempting me too What's everyone else got going on?

Happy July everyone! jeremysgirl, sounds like you are on a mission and ready to go. I can not wait to see the Sixel blanket start and grow, I almost feel like I'm in a haunted mansion when I see it. It's school holidays here which means I'm more tied up at work, covering parents who need time off so I've no particular plans other than to carry on with what I started last month, if I've time.

Hi gillyp! Is summer always a much busier time for you? I know over there too it's common not to have air conditioning so if it gets too hot I can see that sitting under yarn crafts would be uncomfortable. I measured. I have two yards of the blue. However, I drew myself a handy dandy diagram and it looks like it will be enough for sashing. Do any other quilters have to do drawings? I think it's quite funny but seriously I made a bad cut yesterday and that cost me some fabric. So I feel better having it mapped out.

I haven't participated in this thread for a long time. I haven't been making anything at all. I'm sure that will change since my daughter now knows the gender of her baby--I am going to start on a crocheted blanket once she has given me an idea of what colors she would like it to be. I've made so many baby Afghans over the years, it's exciting to make one for my own grandchild. jeremysgirl, what crochet pattern are you excited about? Also, I think I'm going to give that sweater you just made a try. I've never made a sweater, but I've always wanted to try one.

I know over there too it's common not to have air conditioning so if it gets too hot I can see that sitting under yarn crafts would be uncomfortable. Funnily enough, not really with customers as many of them go away on holiday but so do the staff, so I am busy covering their shifts. Luckily we have air con in the shop or the chocolate would melt with the heat from the freezers, not the heat from outside which, on this first day of July is a mahoosive 13deg/55degs. We don't have air con in the house and I don't think anyone does up here. My brother is 550 miles south of us and put it in in his house a couple of years ago. I'm getting excited for the arrival of your yarn!

Happy July! My plans for the month are to continue on with needlepoint ornaments, finally finish up those last few quilt labels and get ready for an all day sew-in for my quilt guild. It's on a Saturday from 9:30-4:00 and only a 3 minute drive from my house! I went last year and had the best time. This year I have a better idea of the prep work I need to do and what to pack so I need to start working on that. My current plan is to have a couple of charity quilt tops ready to sew together.

I still need my knitting lesson in order to fix my mistakes. The women who owns the shop and was going to give me a lesson didn't show up. It was a snafu and nothing big. The problem is that she's farther than I want to drive for a lesson. If I can't find one here then I'll call her, again.

What is the physical set up like at your sew-ins? Is it like a crop where you get a big table for your machine?

What is the physical set up like at your sew-ins? Is it like a crop where you get a big table for your machine? We each get a table (6' I think) and then bring our own machines, lights and extension cords. They set up a couple of ironing boards with irons, though many bring a wool pad and mini iron. The M3Pro Olisio project irons are very popular. Another thing some do (me included) is take a folding tv tray as a side table. I put my wool pad on it and use it as a mini ironing board. This year I have this portable wagon to bring all my stuff in from the car. Makes the process much easier - and quicker.

I have 10 centres for the sunflowers done, and now I'm taking a break LOL I bought the svg for this file ages ago, and finally got some black vinyl to do it! Just a touch of whimsy for my craft/videogame she-shed room:

**GypsyGirl** is there like a schedule rotation for holiday fabrics? So like will new Christmas collections be coming soon or did they already come out for Christmas 2024? Or is it random and not any kind of rhythm? I was looking for a Christmas Jelly Roll and there just doesn't seem to be much out there. And nothing is catching my eye except one collection but it's directional and I was looking to avoid that.

Hi everyone. I messed up on my first embroidery project but it was a learning project to work on the stitches I haven't done since I was a teenager on. I started a new one. I hand drew 5 flowers. I have the petals done, the stems and have 1 inside left to do with the French knot. Then the leaves and it will be done.
I will share a photo in a bit.
In case my post got lost at the end, any other pease who embroider? Have some questions.

That looks so pretty pantsonfire. I have a kit of wildflowers I just absolutely had to have. But I haven't even pulled it out. I have no idea how to do it.

These are from last month.
my kids are 3D printing slugs like no other. This is NOT my design- I got it on Thingiverse.
2 color slugs for my nephews. Same design as the solid color but these are about 2 times bigger
Butterfly I cut on the laser and colored with alcohol inks My school computer needed a facelift. I pulled the QR codes I had on it and they left ghosting so I had to add something again. Shirts for a friend and her autistic DD. They wear the same shirts all the time in case she wanders off. When they're somewhere for class and her DD starts to "wander" she points at the shirt and she gets right back to task. She's come up with lots of cool "coping" things for them. Shirts for the same person. This is a fully designed by me project. My DD from K-12. She's only going into 8th so I don't have them all. Working on the one for my DS. I'll share when it's done.

I usually see new Christmas collections as early as May, probably because so many people start Christmas sewing during the summer. One way to see what is new and also upcoming is to check out the websites of the different manufacturers. Since you mention Jelly Rolls, have you checked Moda? They are the og of those and always have lots to choose from. Below are a few companies that had Christmas collections that looked interesting. Moda Fabrics
Maywood Studios
Poppie Cotton

Riley Blake FabricsThank you for that. I follow Moda and Riley Blake on Instagram. I ended up yesterday going back and looking at their holiday offerings. I did want a jelly roll, but I was discouraged because everything I was seeing (that I really liked) on Missouri Star and Fat Quartershop had directional prints. I have been actively trying to avoid directional prints and they just wouldn't have worked with what I wanted to do. I received birthday money from my dad yesterday and so that's why I was looking. I decided last night to pop into my quilt shop. (I tricked Jeremy into going after he said he didn't want to go by enticing him to try a restaurant right across the street. LOL!) I was shocked to see they had the Moda/Corey Yoder Starberry line. It was prettier in person than on the computer screen. I was also intrigued by all the 3 yard quilt books. So I decided to just pick up one of those books and pick up some yardage. I'll post a pic of the fabrics I got. But I have a quilt in mind and thought these four (I got half yards of two of them to alternate instead of using only one print) would be perfect. I know I got the Grinch quilt kit, but I fully intended that to be a gift. I need to make it before Christmas, of course. LOL! Or maybe next Christmas. But it will be for my stepdaughter. But I wanted something special for myself. ETA pic:

Love your flowers, you've chosen such pretty colours. eta, I'm wrong, I did some around Covid but can't remember where I put it! Great projects seaexplore . I'm still at the stage where I think 3D printing is witchcraft! Love the photo frame. Your fabrics are beautiful jeremysgirl.

I was shocked to see they had the Moda/Corey Yoder Starberry line. It was prettier in person than on the computer screen. I almost recommended that to you, but it seemed rather 'flat' on the screen so I didn't. It's much prettier in a real photo! Main reason I prefer to fabric shop in person! So happy you found something that speaks to you. Those 3 yard quilts are having a 'moment' locally. I think perhaps everyone is a bit overwhelmed with all intricate patterns out/working with multiple fabrics and are wanting something a bit simpler. If you don't follow Ruby Star Society, you might check them out. I love their fabrics and the fact that it is an all woman team They have a new Halloween line coming out that made me think of you - Good Spirits. Other fabric companies I recommend for following are Dear Stella and Dashwood Studios.
