I'm laughing here as I've been knitting for nearly 60 years and have never yet felt the need to knit socks! I rarely wear them so I suppose that's why. I do covet lainey's socks though and I do love seeing the patterns that can be made with the specific yarns. I'll leave the sock makers to enable you, jeremysgirl, but what surprised me when I joined a knitting FB group was the different way people knit these days compared to how I was taught. That's a good enough reason for me to keep out of the discussion. I did used to knit gloves, mind you, and they were reasonable, if fiddly, to make - fingered gloves, not mittens. I started doing them because I wanted to give Christmas gifts to people and didn't have much spare dosh at the time but I did have yarn.

And I'll just say that I appreciate a good quality sock. I did used to knit gloves, mind you, and they were reasonable, if fiddly, to make - fingered gloves, not mittens. I can't even imagine a fingered glove. That seems way too tough.

It took me years to learn to knit, after picking up crochet almost immediately I thought I was some kind of yarny genius and would be able to do it off the bat I was so wrong, I struggled with every aspect of it. My early efforts looked like someone with ten thumbs had done it and I gave up many times, then for some reason it just clicked and I started knitting shawls. Socks were a challenge but I was determined to crack them, unlike shawls I knew I'd actually wear socks. I tried DPNs first but I don't have enough hands to use them. Magic loop was a game changer, it's so easy and really does seem like magic with the perfect tube it produces.
I can't imagine ever having the skills to make fingered gloves!

You know what's funny? I did not take right off with crochet. It's took me many failed projects to learn to do it. the first blanket I made I think fell apart after three washings. 😂 I learned without lessons or YouTube. I had to use a book. It was very frustrating. But I was determined to replace the blanket my grandmother had made. If nothing, I'm realistic about my skill level. I'll put things in the naughty corner for a while. (Camper quilt) I am also usually not too disappointed when something comes out not quite how I envisioned. I knitted some bags back in the day when wool felting was a thing. I'm not saying I'd be successful with a sock. But I feel like I wouldn't be satisfied unless I at least tried it. Basically though what it comes down to is that you make some very attractive socks lainey! This whole craft thread and all you guys inspire me.

Absolutely give socks a go, Winwick Mum sockalong is very detailed and guides you through all the sections that make up a sock. I followed it to make my first pair and still refer to it for the heel turn instructions. With my first pair I wasn't even all that concerned about the fit, I just wanted to learn the techniques and practice, the fact that they did fit and that I still wear them was a very happy accident. You make beautiful things and I'm certain that your socks will be the same

All this hospital time has given me time to focus on needlepoint projects. Completed my Moon Pie ornament this week. I'm about halfway through my Popeye's Chicken ornament. Will send them for finishing when I get it done.

I hunt for and refinish antiques. Every so often we come across a piece that makes it into the house. Upgraded my dresser to this piece and will use the other dresser for the guest room. Finally finished a new-to-me dresser that we picked up in an auction a bit ago. I love it and have it inside now. On to another project! It has been too hot and humid to varnish, maybe next week will work better!

I have a good start on a baby blanket for my daughter, who is expecting my first grandchild in December. The baby is a boy, and these are the colors she chose.
