I'm off to craft meetup this morning, hoping I can figure out join as you go on my sample granny squares while I chat. Or maybe I'll load up my bag with a more mindless crochet border... learning and chatting at the same time is a challenge! I remembered to take a photo of yesterday's cat paw cards while the sun was shining at my desk so off to the sharing thread

My first thought about the light attendance at parents' night is the suspicion that it seems to wane as kids get older. But that is an insane amount of school threats and horrifying & sad that it's such young kids. It's good they were arrested before they did anything but still tragic. I have noticed smaller participation once kids hit high school (I had kids graduate in 2010, 2018, and my last will be 2025) but last year was noticeably lighter and this year even more so. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up stopping open house in the next few years since there isn't much interest. This year's graduating class is the first to have spent K-12 doing lockdown drills etc...they were in K when Sandy Hook happened - and I think it really takes a toll on them. There've been so many school shooting threats, bomb threats, lockdowns, evacuations, metal detectors... for DD17's high school years especially . My oldest had none of that. My middle was in school when they started doing lockdowns and fencing in the schools but nothing like it is now. Younger DD is also a senior this year, I remember picking her up from school on the day of Sandy Hook. I had to take something to the office and walked right in. Now you have to ring a buzzer, tell them why you're there, then there are two sets of locked doors that have to be unlocked. Yesterday they caught some teenagers with guns outside one of the high schools here (not my kids' school) Luckily they were caught before they did anything but

LOL, but you would be recognized by fellow crafters! Adulting is highly over-rated! But hope you were productive.
grammadee - yeah for you getting all those things DONE!
Four pages in, and I'm finally ready to join the chat! I am starting to feel better, but still not 100%. On a positive note, I have just finished making a digital template for the last of the Sketchtember sketches so far. I've only finished one layout (for my own sketch), but at least now I am ready to go with the others. I just need to choose the photos and kit to use. I'd like to be able to finish all 30 sketches if possible. QOTW: Confession time, what supply do you have more of than what you will EVER use?I own waaaaaaaay too many kits. There are some that I bought in the early days if digital scrapping that I know I will never use, but I can't bring myself to get rid of them. Instead I've just hidden them in a secondary folder. I guess when I finally hit my 2TB limit on my iCloud account, I will have to think about culling some kits. Good for you! Me too! Hum, you never know when you might what to use something from the early years! It could happen!
joblackford--crafting get-togethers is for chatting a a bit of crafting! LOL!
Linda I wanted to give you a thumbs up on the second part of your post, but not the first. As a retired teacher I can tell you a few stories about the back to school nights and school lock-downs. As a teacher--the parents who usually showed up were the ones who cared, and their kids were usually great to have in class. Also teachers of juniors and seniors will almost universally say that parents usually are sparse as their kids are older and are given a bit more autonomy and have less parental involvement due to their increasing maturity. Threats to schools IS INCREASING, thus the mentality to keep them safe. As a teacher I've sat through the evolution of how we do that. From the teacher/student standpoint is feels more empowering to be prepared and to know what deters those threats. I am sorry that you are having so many threats in your area. It's the copy-cat syndrome following the Georgia incident? So sad!
One of the early incidents was in Oregon at Thurston High School in Oregon in 1998. But there are even stories from 1927. We must protect our students!
I had appointments this morning and as usual I add the grocery shopping in on the way back home. It takes 25 minutes to get to "town" so I try piggyback my errands. DH had some kind of stomach bug that he passed on to me, so once home and stuff put away I crashed.
Now maybe some crafting time to do sketch 10?

Yesterday they caught some teenagers with guns outside one of the high schools here (not my kids' school) Luckily they were caught before they did anything but yikes - glad they were caught. The other high school (we're rural - there are only 2) was on lockdown today due to gunshots that were traced to a neighbouring property having targeet practise. Not good timing at all. But so thankful that's all it was. I wanted to give you a thumbs up on the second part of your post, but not the first. Even with a senior - I still like to at least introduce myself (or say hi - with DD being the youngest, she and her siblings have had several of her teachers before) and see if there's anything I can send in to the classroom. I had appointments this morning and as usual I add the grocery shopping in on the way back home. It takes 25 minutes to get to "town" so I try piggyback my errands. DH had some kind of stomach bug that he passed on to me, so once home and stuff put away I crashed. We do the piggybacking of errands also. Sorry about the stomach bug - hope you're both feeling better soon.

Is anyone doing anything scrappy today? I have the house to myself (college student has classes until 7, DH went into work today, DS doesn't need to be picked up until 2:30) so I can listen to my audiobook without earbuds, use the microwave and garbage disposal without checking if DH is on a call, and plan to sit at my desk and make a mess and no one can stop me

I am in the office, but I missed the memo that the building maintenance that would involve the water being shut off until 8 am was moved to Friday. That left me an extra half hour this morning, so I continued looking at videos to try to pick a SLoC sketch that makes 12 cards from 2 12x12 papers. I have it narrowed down to two. They are very, very different from one another. DH is out sailing tonight, so I should have some time to see if I can make the call. I'm a little tempted by the one that's a little bit of a "stack and shuffle" just because it's a little different than the usual for Crafty Al.

Lucky you! Just got back from some appointments in town. Going to dh's sister's home for supper this evening. I need to make a dessert for that, so that will prob be my creative effort for the day. Hoping to at least get my sample ready tomorrow for my SKETCHtember challenge on Sunday. Got a bunch of stuff for that piled on my desk.

I'm off out today to get the rest of the rotten Hummels! Good for moving forward on my big project. My crochet teacher Attic24 has come back to her blog after a long depression/break and has a new crochet blanket design I wasn't so keen at first glance but looking at it more I'm probably going to fall in love with some version of it. And I have a plan to turn my sample granny squares (that I was using to relearn skills) into a cell phone pouch, so they won't go to waste.

How much is left? I'm glad your crochet instructor has returned. grammadee - I hope you enjoyed dinner. What dessert did you make? breetheflea - I hope you made the most of your time alone in the house.

I did it! I picked the shuffle, figured out my matting layer color, and started setting up the sentiment/focal stamping. Then found a way to tuck it away until I next have time to play.

I finished sketch #10 and started on #11. Still feeling a bit under the weather tummy wise. I'm also changing some medications so not sleeping very well. I had a telemed appointment this afternoon, and my ND encouraged me to continue the path and work through the difficulties. It was a good appointment.
Off to post #10

It’s very weird and wrong. She said horrifying. www.instagram.com/reel/C--AqbROBHR/?igsh=MTYwNWk2ZG9wNHVwMA==

We tackled a few things including the room of Avon collectibles a few years earlier. The Hummels, since the beginning of this year. I’m trying to get more done in the next 2 months than I’ve done in the past 8 months. How much is left… ? There are “only” 3.5 glass cases full of glass and ceramics left at this point, but still other miscellany, a LOT of oak furniture, and more pieces of art than you can imagine. Some of that may be left to other family to deal with or will just transfer with the house. Everything this family did was too much. A good example was the baseball cards they collected for their son - 17 moving boxes full! It’s taken him dozens and dozens of hours just to go through them all looking for the ones that might be worth having graded and sold. That’s why I got stuck selling his Hummels.

This thread moves fast! linda the threats to your DDs school sounds so scary. I’m not looking forward to that in the next few years as my DD gets older and starts school. Ugh! joblackford this heatwave is no joke! I’m in SoCal in a hot hot hot area. Thankfully today has been a lot cooler. But we were in triple digits for several days in a row. It takes a toll, because we love going to the park and playground with the dog and baby! Saying hi to everyone else! I hope everyone is feeling good. I’ve had a cold for the past week but it’s finally subsiding. We’ve been busy, as always. I had to travel for work, only 24 hours but still. My daughters first birthday party is this Saturday! So that means we are hosting my in laws. It should be a fun but hectic weekend.

QOTW: Confession time, what supply do you have more of than what you will EVER use? I have two. Paper is my first weakness. I was so good for so long about keeping my stash manageable, but I couldn't resist going shopping on our recent holiday and came home with a bunch of new supplies. My other weakness is alphas and pre-made thickers, I have way more than I need and will likely ever use although I am making a concerted effort to finish off some nearly done packs.

Yesterday after work I went to a SU Open House. I was able to make a couple of Make-n-Take cards that was fun. Their holiday catalog did not jazz me up this year. I have sets from some other companies though so should be alright this year. In fact, maybe I won't make cards this year but with use holiday dies and patterned paper.
My computer is acting up right now so need to see what is going on.

Diecuts and patterned papers are my first choices for card making, medennis4. My stamping never turns out the way the samples look in the catalog, on line, or even IRL sample cards made by the demo's. Doesn't mean I don't have a cupboard full of stamps, though LOL. I have loved seeing your latest travel LO's, Chinagirl828. Home all day today, but have to do something with a fridge full of zucchini. I had thought to do it yesterday and use some to make a cake to take for supper, but ended up going the easy route and baking chocolate chip cookies instead. Much less work, and they were a hit, so that was a good decision. I do have my Sunday sample page started. Need to wait for some splatters to dry, so may as well head into the kitchen, and pull out the food processor...

I have mentioned fairly frequently that I am a total sucker for all feathered friends. SU's Winterly Treetops bundle is tempting me mightily....
I am in the office and bored, again. I found out early this week that the big exciting project I thought I was hired to do is not actually my project. On the one hand, I'm kicking myself for not seeking more clarification on that before accepting the offer. On the other hand, it was THE offer...only one I received. So would I rather still be unemployed?!

Today I am working on gathering up some things to work on for a one day crop tomorrow! 12 hours of crafty good time. I have several layouts to do, I also will probably work on some sewing stuff too. I have a bunch of bowl cozies to work but need to cut them out. And a dress to cut out. And I want to do a set of cards to so I need to gather those supplies up also! And I need to find a snack to bring with for the table. It’s with a new group that is meeting at the same place my old group used to me so it’s only a mile from my house. So convenient.

joblackford --I feel for you regarding the "rotten Hummels", with a certain age group they were THE collectable. I can just image how hard it is to market them now! Enjoy your crafty yarn and paper time once the big job is underway again.
breetheflea --It is so rare to have the house to ourselves! I get a few hours here and there when DH goes to work in the shop. Funny about your crocheting/knitting woes. Both crafts I would have to relearn.
Shakti --bummer about the exciting project, but thankful you do have a job . . . it is a good way to look at it! Glad the paper shuffle started to get cards together.
christinec68 , Chinagirl828 and justjac -- When I worked full-time it was impossible for me to craft as I used up all my energy teaching. Weekends are a great time to recharge!
scrappyrabbit --boo about the cold! Glad you are getting better. Hope Baby rabbit stayed healthy!
katiekaty --sounds like you have a lot planned.
grammadee--Hope the zucchini didn't take you hostage. One zucchini plant is usually plenty! Never really been a fan, so I did spaghetti squash in a previous location!
Tummy is still not cooperating today--may be the Rx changes I am working on. Glad I don't have anything pressing to do! Chiro adjustment and a few groceries this morning.

I'm glad that the chocolate chips cookies were a hit, too! christinec68, Chinagirl828 and justjac - I work full-time, too so I have an inkling of how busy your days are. I also look forward to the weekends (which seem to go by so fast). I also look forward to holidays and semester breaks. My work laptop computer is working again after rebooting it. I'll use my own computer when I get home even though I bring the work one home with me.

Get well wishes to all with tummy and nasal issues! LalalalaIcan'thearyou to all discussing needle-y things... joblackford's blankets are mighty tempting, but I know how that will end for me if I give in to that tempation! My team lead/secondary boss just postponed our meeting from now to tomorrow morning. This is the meeting wherein we discuss what I WILL be working on. That's right. Week six. OK, five if you discount my vacation.... I think I'm going to drive home now. Oops. I'm home now. Forgot to hit post before packing up....
