I think it’s interesting that people who are obsessed with thinking all immigrants are criminals and rapists just voted for one to be our president. Show me where I said “all” immigrants/illegals are criminals and rapists, exactly.

There are so many errors and so many things wrong with your statement I don't know where to start. And I think this is a pointless discussion because you've decided you're right and facts don't matter. They're just semantics apparently. Your comment also explains why you support Trump. Apparently you agree with him that Mexico is sending rapists and murders? People who immigrated here in the last 4 years are not all criminals, murderers and rapists. Other countries did not empty jails and send the prisoners here. Immigrants do not have a higher percentage of criminals compared to the rest of the population. The total foreign born population in 2024 is just over 50 million people. 77% of them are here legally as naturalized citizens, legal permanent residents or legal temporary residents. In 2021, about 11 million undocumented immigrants lived here. Not the total that moved here that year, the total number. Since President Biden took office about 7 million people migrated here, many of them legally. About 4 million over his entire time in office moved here without documentation. Your numbers are wildly inaccurate. www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2024/09/27/key-findings-about-us-immigrants/I never said everyone was a murderer or rapist. I SAID…those are the ones he is going to focus on to deport. My “inaccurate” numbers include the getaways and the ones that came in undetected. It’s an estimation because we will never know “accurately” how many illegals the current administration actually let in. and yes, I agree with some reports that criminals from other countries are here. Most likely, they are the ones murdering and raping our citizens. we don't know how many the former administration unknowingly let in either! Or Obama, or Bush, or those before them...

These people never should’ve been allowed to wander into our country undocumented, unvetted, and illegally in the first place. There should’ve been better border security. PERIOD. And under President Trump, there will be.

And under President Trump, there will be. There were people that came here illegally when Trump was president as well. Don’t deluge yourself into believing that the border was “closed” then “wide open.” I hold the republicans responsible just as much as democrats. Constantly saying that the border was wide open gave people the idea that it is, in fact, wide open (which it wasn’t). Anyone who said that likely led to people getting hurt and dying because you wanted to make a political point. Also, Biden asked for more funding for border agents and faster processing of asylum claims. That was denied. But now we have a blank check for Trump to deport anyone Willy Nilly? Give me a break. As I said in another thread (or maybe this one, I don’t know), we can’t have reasonable discussions because it always has to be us vs them. A lot more would get solved if the rhetoric on the right was toned down.

The rhetoric on the left isn’t without blame. eta: I’m pretty sure tens of millions weren’t let in during the last admin. Certainly not near the numbers under this one. I can guarantee you that the deportation process won’t be done “Willy nilly”. That sounds ridiculous.

I read a tweet from Stephen miller that says they are looking at ways to de-naturalize people. I also heard on AC360 last night that it costs approximately 11k to deport each person. ETA that David Axelrod also pointed out that no matter if 1 person or 1 million people are deported, Trump will claim it was the biggest mass deportation ever. So in reality it may not amount to as much as what he says. Especially if CEO’s start getting to Trump and saying that their business won’t do well without immigrants. I’m hoping that is how it goes, a lot of talk and very little action. 🤞🏻

And I’m going to guess that the ones let in under bush, obama and Trump were more accurately processed than the ones the current guy let in. How does anyone know how many there are if they came in without anyone seeing them? Are you referring to illegal immigrants or those who claimed asylum (which is legal) or those who have protective legal status? If you are talking about those who claimed asylum and you think it was slower or “worse” under Biden than Obama or Trump, you need to ask why. Could it be that Trump is the reason why? Or that Biden wasn’t given the funding he needed? It’s not like Biden fired all border agents or judges to hear asylum cases. He tried to get funding to increase it and was denied. What you are saying doesn’t really seem to make much logical sense. Just fits your narrative. And that is where a lot of the confusion comes in with the “policies” of the Trump administration. They refer to everyone as illegal and that is not the case.

Quite honestly even though I'm an American citizen BY BIRTH, I was born overseas and still retain a trace of my accent. And I've encountered enough government officials over the years who insisted that I couldn't be a citizen if I wasn't born in one of the 50 States and that I needed to produce my naturalisation papers...that I'm a little concerned tbh.
My dad was a green card holder - a legal immigrant who never naturalised or had any plans to do so. My mum was born in NY and her parents were born in RI but 3/4 of her grandparents were Irish immigrants and the 4th was the child of Irish immigrants.
I'm horrified by the rhetoric and hate against immigrants - undocumented or otherwise.

And under President Trump, there will be. We would have had better border security months ago if Trump hadn't squashed the border bill by telling his caucus not to vote for it. He did this so he could run on immigration reform. He clearly doesn't care about this issue. He uses it was a way to drum up support. He's a salesman and that's his pitch. The number of illegal immigrants is often exaggerated by right wing media since they never seem to point out that many people are turned back or that the number of encounters can be multiple encounters with the same person. There are of course some who get through without being caught. It's a problem but not nearly the numbers Trump claims.

There’s a big difference between people who came here legally (immigrants) and those who came here illegally (illegals). Immigrants built this country. But the ones that built this country came here through the proper channels. The illegals did not come here through the proper channels and a shit ton of them are living on the taxpayer dime….at the expense of the American people. Some of these illegals are living better than our veterans. I do have a huge problem with that.

Many of those undocumented immigrants work and pay taxes, pay into someone's SSA account, sales taxes, property taxes etc.. and never collect any of them. They particularly plump up the SSA system to allow others to collect.

If you care about an immigrant, tread carefully at letting the world know that you know where they are. Be the person who would have protected Anne Frank. And hell yes he is going to deport them. They have repeatedly said it. And they also said they want to deport some naturalized citizens. They just haven't said why they are targeting naturalized citizens. I'm assuming they will look at criminal records, or if they are considered "enemy of the US". I just don't know. It is extremely rare to have your citizenship taken away, but it can happen. And the ACLU will be watching this closely.

My paternal grandparents, and my maternal great-grandparents immigrated to the US. Both sides did so to avoid persecution due to their religious beliefs, but that's another story for another thread. Anyhow, perhaps part of the problem with these folks who don't get it is that they are too far removed from when and why their own family arrived on US soil. I dunno. Trying to make sense of it all.

Isn't this a fun thread. They will start with the illegals that will be criminals. But it won't be as many as they promised, and the base won't have gotten their fill. They will add in the illegals that came from s-hole countries. This is where labor starts getting dicey. On top of the tariffs. On top of the migration that will happen to avoid deportation. People are still angry, and the base will need to be appeased or risk losing them. They increase the list of countries. People will get agitated. There will be protests. They will filter the protestors into those they want to deport (illegal from anywhere, legal but from an s-hole country they can revoke, American citizens they can denaturalize), and those that are sent to labor camps (Capital saying, wait, I actually need *those* people to staff my business or internment camps (the Americans they don't know how to handle, like the Japanese Americans in WWII.) The system will be even more swamped. The judges like those that aspire to rise through the ranks, will gain favor by signing off on violations of Due Process for expediency. Like what Aileen Cannon and the 5th Circuit Judges are doing now. Bad faith interpretations of law. In 2015, a judge ruled that Texas could deny birth certificates to some children born in the US to immigrants. The case was resolved, but the climate now is very different, isn't it? And I'll say it again, the arguments will be made by judges in bad faith. At some point the Insurrection Act is triggered. The bad actors are already chomping at the bit to do this. They system continues to break down, and people of all legal status are removed in ways and for reasons that history has seen play out before. If we're lucky it ends here. I was reading a post on Twitter, last night, where someone asked Eva Schloss (Otto Frank's stepdaughter after he remarried after liberation) what she wanted people to know that often gets missed. Answer: "At the time, the community mood/fear for the absolute worst-case scenario was forcible expulsion, maybe deportation to Madagascar." MadagaskarplanIf we aren't, well... And at each step of the way, some people will deny that it can and is happening. Then rather than admit they were wrong about not crossing the unforgiveable line, they will readjust their thinking that if these people didn't protest, didn't get in the way, they deserve their fate.

And put up in luxury hotels with three squares and laundry service. A nice gig if you ask me. Ah ok... Because they were shipped north from Texas and Florida with only the clothes they were wearing. Like Florida is a border state. They were given funds to initially assist them. Certainly not luxury hotels up here in the northeast. They were dropped off with little to no warning. They needed immediate help, which was given freely. The people up here treated them as vulnerable humans. Not as trash like Abbott and DeSantis did, not something they should be proud of... BTW: Helping those in need is a good christian value.. not practiced by the TFG administration. How many years ago they sent families from New Orleans up here. They were expected. There was housing made available, apartments, furnishings, food and clothing provided.

My next door neighbors are undocumented. They have 5 children (now in their late teens/early 20s) - kids all born in the U.S.
I love my neighbors & have known them 15 years. They are wonderful people, hard working & just good folks. I don’t know her well because she doesn’t speak much English & is shy but his English is excellent & he has helped me with some home/yard projects. He’s been trying to get citizenship for several years but it isn’t easy to do, but I know he’s trying & I’ve written character letters for him.
But…they are not here as legal citizens & it is awful to think they may be deported. It would be horrible
